About the property

Cottage near Caernarfon, Gwynedd, North Wales, - An Unbeatable Countryside Location, Mins From The Mountains And The Sea, Free Wifi, Pets Welcome

This beautiful detached old stone cottage has been lovingly brought back to life and retains a wealth of historic features. The hand-made oak frame, reclaimed local slate floors and lovingly restored stonework blend seamlessly with the modern amenities like the underfloor heating powered by the environmentally friendly Air-Source Heat Pump. The woodburning stove will toast you in the evenings after a day out in Snowdonia, (Pen-y-Pass is five minutes drive), or you can soak the sand of Anglesey's beaches out of your toes in the roll-top bath. The Royal town of Caernarfon with it's magnificent castle is only four miles away, and the village pub is four minutes walk! We are also pet friendly. Dogs just love to run along the beach, frolic in the waves and explore the coves, woods and trails, and we understand that a family holiday just wouldn't be the same without them. We also provide free broadband Wifi.

About Janet Horton

We love to spend time away from our busy daily lives at our pretty cottage. The whole family loves the endless choice of activities here, and always looks forward to getting back to our cosy cottage in the evening. We also get great joy from being able to share this special little place with others.

Janet Horton purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Janet Horton chose Wales

We relish the chance to be able to get away to the hills or spend a sunny day on the beach, and we're sure you will too. The cottage is very easy to get to, yet sits in a quiet rural spot.

A home away from home...

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Ty Capel over the Easter weekend, despite the truly horrendous weather- but what a perfect excuse to fire up the wood burner! The cottage is beautiful, and perfectly equipped and the location is spot on for everything we needed. You definitely need a car, to ensure you can fully explore the surrounding area, and there are so many places to see and visit within a fairly short drive from the cottage. Beaches, mountains and castles are all on your doorstep.

The directions provided by the owner were spot on, meaning we were able to find the cottage without any trouble, even though it is tucked away from the road, and we parked on the lane during our stay, mainly as a result of having a large vehicle.

Communication with the owner prior to our visit was great, and the housekeeper, who we met as we arrived was very friendly and helpful too!

We would highly recommend you stay at Ty Capel if you want a perfect little home away from home, and to explore this most beautiful part of Wales

Lovely relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely relaxing week in Wales. The cottage was beautiful, was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The weather was amazing and so we were able to enjoy the surrounding countryside with amazing views and the fabulous beaches a short drive away. We head breakfast in the lovely cottage garden with just the sound of birds, bees and a cockerel! We took our dog and he was so chilled we didn't want to come home ! The owners directions to the cottage were spot on and we found it without any trouble - a first for us. We would definitely return.

Just as it said!

  • 4 of 5

We spent a long weekend in this beautiful cottage, myself and my husband with our married son and daughter in law. The cottage was exactly as shown and described and we were really pleased with our choice. The cottage was small but very comfortable and very well equipped with all modern amenities.

To stay here you would required a car, as there is nothing really within walking distance. The cottage is however well located for exploring Anglesey and the Snowdonia National park.

Directions were great and the cottage was very clean.

Parking was limited so we parked on the main road, which was not a problem.

We would stay here again.

Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was a lovely little cottage. We stayed in December and the underfloor heating kept it lovely and warm, wanted to light the wood burner but that would have made it too warm.

It had everything you needed to a high standard and would visit again. The parking would be a problem if the other cottage was in use but we had no problems

Fabulous Family Holiday!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely cottage... Really cosy... Lovely underfloor heating (didn't even have to use the woodburner!). Nicely renovated to a very high standard while still feeling like a home from home... Great location for the beaches, mountain walks, sailing and a host of other adventures... Absolute doddle finding our way there with the directions supplied... Unlike one of the previous reviews we found no issue with the parking at all, don't be put off!... Can' t recommend highly enough.

From the Owner

We relish the chance to be able to get away to the hills or spend a sunny day on the beach, and we're sure you will too. The cottage is very easy to get to, yet sits in a quiet rural spot.

Activity and Interests

A two minute drive sees you over the Menai bridge and on Anglesey, the island is surrounded by award-winning wide sandy beaches. Red Wharf Bay, Bellech, Lligwy and Cemaes Bay line the north coast, and there are Aberffraw and Rhosneigr among many others to the south. Dinas Dinllae beach south of Caernarfon is also less than ten miles away.

The cottage is very easy to get to from the motorway network and along the A55 dual carriageway. From the Holyhead ferry it is a half hour drive, or one and a half hours from Liverpool's John Lennon Airport. It is in the tiny hamlet of Seion (this doesn't feature on google maps, the nearest village that does is Llanddeiniolen which is half a mile away).

Further Details:

The cottages' fantastic location means that all of North Wales is at your fingertips. You are surrounded by Mother Nature in all her glory.

From the door you can walk straight up into dramatic peaks of Snowdonia and ramble for days stopping at ancient Inns for lunch, or the more energetic can make use of the facilities at the National Mountain Centre at Plas-Y-Brenin.

A plethora of wide sandy beaches pepper the coastline, and there are numerous national and local nature reserves, dramatic cliffs and RSPB centres for birdwatchers, together with gentler days out to be had at ancient sites or the National Trust properties at Penrhyn Castle and the superb Botanical Gardens at Bodnant.

The summer brings the Anglesey Walking Festival, or sailors and kayakers can circumnavigate the island by sea, exploring the hidden coves and little beaches. Windsurfers are also well catered for whether beginners or experts.

Pony trekking is also available on the hills or along the coast, or you can have an lazy day browsing shops and galleries in little harbour towns like Beaumaris or pretty fishing villages like Moelfre.

Llanberis, the gateway to Snowdonia and it's rugged peaks is 4 miles, there is also a High Ropes centre there. GreenWood Forest park is only a mile away from the cottage and perfect for family adventure fun.

The sailing centre at Y Felineli is 2 miles, there are cycle tracks and endless footpaths right from the door.

The cottage is perfectly situated to take in all that North Wales has to offer. If castles are your thing, Penrhyn and Caernarfon are 4 miles away, and Beaumaris castle 5 miles.

  • Notes on accommodation: This secret cottage is hidden away in the tiny quiet hamlet of Seion, and yet is so close to everything you need for a great holiday. Conveniently, all of the accommodation (including the bathroom) is on the ground floor. The cottage is centrally heated by whole-house underfloor heating driven by an Air Source Heat Pump. This gentle heat keeps it warm all year round, and it is supplemented by the woodburning stove. We have a strict no-smoking policy inside the cottage, but as already mentioned, pets are very welcome. Outside: The front of the cottage has a country garden with a little lawn and a slate patio with table and chairs for alfresco dining. Behind the cottage there is also a private little yard with seating. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Fresh bed-linen, duvets and pillows are provided for your stay. Bathroom towels are provided, but not beach towels. Other: Please note freezer is small above standard fridge. Ideal for ice cubes, fish fingers, oven chips and frozen peas.
