About the property

Traditional stone winemaker's house in Laurens, near Beziers, Languedoc, France. Quiet location close to historic market towns, vineyards, rivers and beautiful sandy beaches

'Mimosalaurens' is ideal for families or groups alike because of the space it offers both inside and out together with its great location. The village of Laurens is away from the commercial coastal areas but still within an easy drive of all the attractions and sights. The downstairs was converted in 2010 from a large winegrower's garage space in to a large open plan living space, additional bedroom, kitchen, and utility room. Unusually for a French village house, there is a large established garden and lawn which is wonderful for relaxing, together with a large level patio area next to the house ready for al fresco dining. If you're a sun worshipper you may find you prefer to lie on a sun bed beside the pool ready to cool off at regular intervals sipping a plastic glass of the local fizz as the sun finally cools down! The house has plenty of traditional French charm but is well equipped with all mod cons (TV, telephone, Wifi, Electric heating, wood burner). Off road parking at front.

About Debbie Sainsbury

We both live and work in the UK but love spending time at the house when we can manage it, often with friends and family. The only problem we've encountered so far, is that as soon as anyone arrives at the house they are so happy relaxing in the garden by the pool that they often can't be bothered to go and visit anywhere else!

Debbie Sainsbury purchased this house in 2009

Why Debbie Sainsbury chose Laurens

Languedoc is a really beautiful area; the house is really close to the Haut-Languedoc regional park which is pretty spectacular countryside, we love driving across the Millau viaduct every year on the way down! The beaches are long and beautiful too with soft sand and clean sea so it was a difficult decision as to whether to buy somewhere closer to the coast or to the Haut Languedoc but we fell in love with the house and garden and that made the decision for us!

What makes this house unique

This is the first time that we've ever had a 'home away from home' and it's not like other holidays in the way that you won't feel the pressure to go and and see or do things, but can if you want. Our hope in renting is to try and give other people a 'home away from home', even if it's only for a week. One of the selling points of our house was the garden; a lot of the other village houses we've seen have hardly any outside space. Although it involves a lot of weeding and watering, it's definitely worth it for the (plastic) glass of champagne by the pool at sunset.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"It is a lovely house and the pool is great. Nice and quiet, just as you said it was. The shopping we asked for was perfect, and really important as we arrived very late at night. So thank you for that.

The village was very pretty and we thank you for allowing us to stay at the house.. We hope to be back!"

"Atmosphere perfect, nice house, lots of privacy, good beds, enough kitchen supplies!"

"Everything was great! Thank you so much"

Utility Room: A washing machine is available together with iron and ironing board and an additional fridge are all available in the utility room. There is plenty of outside line space to hang washing and a couple of airers for inside. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels (house plus separate beach/pool towels) are all included. If you wish to use additional towels and change things more frequently, please wash and dry things as you go in order to ensure that there is no extra charge. Other: Outdoor table tennis table Volleyball net and ball - great fun played in the water with teenagers

A wonderful and peaceful villa in a french village

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week in Debbies spacious house. Everything you need for a pleasant stay you find in the house. We were 11 persons and there were even room for another two or so. The kids loved the pool and the small garden is refreshing in the hot days. Book now, you will not be disappointed!

Peaceful relaxing break in beautiful home.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home in a quiet typically French village. My partner and I had a wonderful relaxing holiday which is just what the doctor ordered! The house was spotless when we arrived and everything you could possibly need is provided. The bedrooms are spacious with plenty of storage, the bathroom is amazing with large walk in shower and huge tub bath should you want it. The kitchen opens out at the back onto a large courtyard with somewhere to sit out and have your meals in the summer. The garden is not overlooked and has a lovely pool which is small but large enough to actually swim in... very welcome in the hot summer sun! Plenty of sun loungers for relaxing in and even fresh figs, plums, grapes and hazelnuts if you are there at the right time of the year. For cooler evenings there is a wood burner in the huge sitting room if you are there out of the summer season. The village has a shop, bakery and butcher and somewhere to even get take away pizza. There is a very well stocked supermarket nearby. We had a fantastic day out canoeing on the River Orb - definitely recommend it! The beach is about an hour away and the wonderful town of Pezanas is worth a visit with late night artisan shopping through atmospheric narrow lanes with plenty of places to eat. We even managed to go jogging around the village in the surrounding countryside if that is something you are interested in! All in all an amazing week. We would definitely recommend and will be visiting again.

This is a lovely home from home!

  • 5 of 5

A truly beautiful house in a perfect location to explore this gorgeous part of France.

The house is well appointed and the owners have thought of all the little things which make your stay more comfortable. The bathrooms are all modern and stylish and equipped with excellent showers! There is plenty of space even for our party of 11 including dog, we could happily get along without being on top of one another.

The pool, although not huge, is perfect for cooling off and the lovely shaded garden and patio area became the focal point of our holiday! We loved all the little touches in the house which make the place more personal and made full use of the well-equipped kitchen.

We found both boulangeries to be reliable and friendly and also made good use of the small epicerie in the town, plus the neighbouring pizza place which is hard to beat being very tasty and great value.

All together we spent a truly memorable holiday here and found the place to be totally charming, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Fabulous relaxing villa

  • 5 of 5

This is such a fantastic house in a beautiful location. The place is well equipped with everything you need and is beautifully laid out, comfortable and clean. It is secluded and quiet but well placed for access to some great beaches and sights. Great garden with plenty of sun and shade alike with a nice sized pool. One of the best parts was the huge table outside for great family dining. We all loved it and the kids had so much fun here. Debbie was so friendly and helpful and provided plenty of info on the property and things to do. There are some fabulous places to eat locally if you can drag yourself away!

Would love to come back again. Thank you.

Happy Holidays

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous villa surpassed our expectations. Lovely village with wonderful restaurant a stroll away. We think this area of France takes some beating, great climate, delicious vino and food. We were a large group with teenagers all enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and day's out to the river, beach and markets. evenings out in buzzing French towns. Sad to be home and hope to return, Debbie the owner was brilliant, very responsive and easy to deal with.

Special interest holidays:

Canoeing available on nearby river.

The long sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are just 30 minutes by car; some are basic and undeveloped whereas others are built up like Cap d'Agde with a water park and other tourist activities.

The nearest airports are Béziers (30 minutes), Montpellier (45 minutes), Perpignan (1 hour), Carcassonne (1 hour), and Nîmes (1 hour 30). It is essential to hire a car. Béziers is served by Ryanair from Bristol, Stansted and Luton and by Flybe from Southampton and Manchester. It is possible to take the Eurostar to Paris and the TGV to Béziers where you can hire a car.

The house is in the village of Laurens, on the doorstep of many vineyards including those of our Sylva Plana and Chateau de Grézan; both walking distance from the house. The slightly bigger village of Magalas is only 8km away. Nearby (20-30 minutes) are the historic towns of Béziers, Bédarieux and Pézenas. Slightly further afield, there are places like Carcasonne and Sête.

Further Details:

In Laurens there are 2 bakeries, a butcher, a grocery shop, a post office and a newsagent. There is also a tapas bar and restaurant open Thursday to Sunday. At Magalas (8km) there is a supermarket and other larger shops as well as a few restaurants, cafés and a bank. Pézenas (20 minutes by car) abounds with charm and character, plenty of restaurants and perhaps the best market in the whole of the region on Saturday mornings. 30 minutes away is the historic town of Béziers where all normal shops etc. can be found as well as a market on Sunday. Bédarieux ( 15 mins) also has a good market and shops on Monday. Other activities are close by as well: there is horse riding 15 minutes away, canoeing on the River Orb 30 minutes away and the Parc du Haut-Languedoc boasts some beautiful walks.
