About Ruth Rogers

Hello, We are Andrew and Ruth,

We moved to France from Guernsey in April 2002 with our two children Denham and Fern, then aged 2 and 9 months respectively.

We have since been running the gites and enjoying the lovely micro climate that the Vendee has to offer.

Ruth Rogers purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Ruth Rogers chose Saint-Juire-Champgillon

We decided to buy a property in St Juire Champgillon because we liked the rural location and the fact that we had plenty of garden, which would be ideal for the gites as it enables children lots of space to play in.

The property is easily accessible from the main roads, but far enough away to offer tranquility with an abundance of tracks and lanes suitable for walking and cycling.

We also have easy access to the beaches and local attractions like Puy du Fou (well worth the visit), but at the end of the day you can leave the hustle and bustle and just come back and chill out with a beer or a glass of wine.

2011 the Tour de France cyclists raced straight past our front door, this was another life experience for us something we had never seen before, we made a day of it with friends.

What makes this cottage unique

The benefits of staying with us here at La Guillemandiere are that we have spacious gites, well equipped with ample parking.

For the children (or adults alike!) we have a large enclosed swimming pool with childrens pool, large gardens with the childrens play area, boule court and playhouse, and a large trampoline with safety net surround.

You can enjoy the abundance of fruit and nut trees in the garden, help youselves.

The adjacent fields are filled with either wheat, maize or sunflowers and make for good photographs.

At dusk the odd deer can be seen as well as magnificent sunsets.

Our holiday here was amazing- Ruth And Andy were perfect hosts and very welcoming and kind with lots of advice on places to go and see! We have two young girls who absolutely loved our holiday here- the swimming pool was ideal with superb views and cleaned daily- the gardens were lovely with trampoline and swing set. The gite was great with English TV which was nice- we will defiantly think about going back- thank you for making our holiday something great to remember 👍😊😊😊

Fabulous gite, fabulous holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had the best holiday here. We stayed in the smaller gite, which sleeps 4. It was comfortable & well equipped. The grounds make this place special. The pool is fantastic & my children loved the trampoline, play park & basketball, with loads of room for running around. The hosts were really helpful, giving us recommendations for places to eat. The gites are near a small pretty village with a lovely market & a bread van came most mornings with gorgeous bread & pastries. I have already recommended this gite to friends & family & will definitely be coming back!

poorly presented gite

  • 1 of 5

We were very disappointed with the quality of accommodation presented to us at Le Petit Recoin. The listing description does not mention that the bbq area for this gite is road side within metres of passing traffic. Guests should be aware that the bedrooms are in an attic space and are very poorly ventilated. The twin bedroom only had one small velux window and there was no pole to allow guests to open this. The wooden beds in this room have a blue covering that was peeling off. The bathroom facilities, in particular the shower were off putting. The shower door did not close properly and was not clean. The kitchen area was not well equipped, as advertised and needed further cleaning. I would not recommend this gite as a pleasant holiday experience.

Owner's Response: Andrew and I were very disappointed to receive your negative comments about Le Petit Recoin Gite. This gite has always been a favourite with our guests as it was in a previous life a cattle shed which has been tastefully converted into accommodation, the gite has exposed beams and stone walls, a true gite rurale, we have always had very good reviews - a book is in the gite with positive customer comments from visitors for the past 11 years, including 2013. We live in a rural location; there are fields right around us with sunflowers, wheat or corn depending on the year. We do get to experience true rural farming life with Tractors and Combines working in the fields, but the children love this, it gives them great fun watching them work. The complex is set in approximately 2 acres of gardens, with plenty of room to sit and relax and look at the surrounding countryside, we have apple trees, walnut tree and hazelnut trees offering good shaded areas when necessary. The pool area is fully enclosed to the French standards, and always enjoyed by both the children and adults. We have a trampoline, wooden playhouse and swings and slide area for the kids to play in, so they are kept well entertained. The kitchen is fully equipped with a range cooker and hood (brand spanking new this year), fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine, cutlery, crockery etc. Upon arrival I do say to all of our guests that if there is anything that I have forgotten or they need, to just come and tell us - it is one of the advantages of us living on site!! I shall do my best to help wherever possible - we like to think that we are very approachable and that we are here to make your holiday enjoyable. It was very regrettable that there seemed to be a lack of communication; however, once we were made aware of your feelings we immediately offered you one of our other gites, hoping that this would better suit your requirements; however you refused to look at them and chose to leave which is beyond our control.
