Back again to this wonderful cottage. Can't think of a better way to start the New Year. Had a brilliant time - weather was mixed, but had some sunshine. We visited Port Isaac, Padstow, Hartland, Welcombe Mouth, Sennen, Sandymouth and Duckpool. Walked from Crackington Haven to Bude, from Duckpool to SandyMouth and a circular walk from Bude to Widemouth and back!

The week flew by and now its time for home. Thank you for another lovely stay.

A beautiful cottage, we really enjoyed our stay. It is a very clean and comfortable cottage. We would highly recommend staying here to friends.

Just to say how much we enjoyed our week in your lovely cottage. The weather could have been kinder but the log fire and the comfortable bed made up for that. The two pubs within walking distance certainly helped as well. We have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to our friends.

Thank you so much. Judy and Pete.

“Cosy, cottage perfect for a relaxing trip break. Well recommended.”

"A brilliant week! Cottage great, well equipped with all you would require with small boys...sad to be at our holiday end" Susie, Jack,Will and Henry

Fantastic cottage in charming little village

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing cottage. We felt at home as soon as we walked through the door. The cottage has everything you need. Bathroom was great, bed extremely comfortable, super kitchen, large wood burner and a secure garden (Great for our dogs) The village has two friendly pubs, we particularly liked the New Inn, served Great food too. Chip shop was good and very friendly. Spar shop and co-op just a couple of minutes walk away. The common provided a fantastic walk too.

We really would love to return to this cottage, didn't actually want to leave!!

It was perfect!

Nice cottage

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Kilkhampton apart from the weather. It was a nice cottage well equipped. Sandymouth is a lovely beach when the tide is low, we went to The Big Sheep which the kids enjoyed (aged 4 and 5). We took a drive to Padstow, some brilliant beaches and Rick Stein's fish and chips is a must. The only negative was that parking was sometimes a problem, the free car park around the corner does get full.

Lovely and Charming for New Years R & R

  • 4 of 5

Wow, a stunning charming Cottage in a village where everything you need is within walking distance (or staggering if you've been to the pubs!). A wonderful cottage with everything we required for a 3 night stay, the cottage has everything we needed although we've tended to start bringing our own self catering equipment due to other properties not always having ! But we weren't disappointed at all with Church View Cottage, the parking to offload is right outside, and the parking nearby is barely a 5 minute walk, everything is close by to not be any problem.

The information prepared on things to do, places to visit is great, and very helpful. We visited Boscastle (lovely to meander around), Hartland Point and the Bush Inn (lovely and very popular be warned!).

Thank you Amanda for a lovely break, we will definitely recommend this to all we know, you now need a Facebook page to spread the word even more!!!!

Location

From the Owner

ChurchView Cottage is in a perfect location for us, in a great village, down a quiet lane that into the stunning Coombe valley to the National Trust beaches of Duckpool and SandyMouth for rock-pooling, surfing and picnics. The fabulous network of footpaths and South West Coast path provides miles of walking. Just down the road we love exploring the remains of Kilkhampton Castle and the recently renovated Kilkhampton Common with its rare breed sheep, ponies and lots of permissive paths with hidden picnic tables and streams and bridges for poo-sticks and dam building. Being located just off the A39 means the cottage is easy to get to and a great base for exploring both Devon and Cornwall. Bude is just 5 miles away, with its great amenities and chilled atmosphere.

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

Special interest holidays:

Walking - network wonderful of footpaths accessed right outside the cottage. Walk to the coast at Duckpool, then along to the coast path or beach to Sandymouth, then Northcott and arrive on Summerleaze beach Bude - then get the bus home!

Surfing - Learn to surf just down the road at Sandymouth, or in Bude or Widemouth comes highly recommended too.

Rock-pooling - at Duckpool, Northcott, Sandymouth.

Archery - just down the road at Bush

Coast/Beach:

The National Trust owned beach at Sandymouth is the closest (under 4 miles), with Duckpool and Northcott on either side - all take around 10 minutes to get to by car. Or walk via the fabulous footpaths or quiet country lanes. The well-known and fabulous sandy beaches in Bude are under 5 miles away. If you head south on the A39 - about 45 minutes drive gets you to Rock, or if you head north for about the same time, you reach the Woolacombe and the North Devon coastline.

Travel:

Use of a car is advised - you could get there on public transport.....but it would take some time.

Buses run along the A39 through the village - which are great for getting you back after a long walk

Nearest train stations and airports are 45 miles at Plymouth, followed by Newquay (47 miles), followed by Exeter (59 miles).

Distances:

Bude 5 miles South (10 mins) away and is well served with a selection of shops.

Tamar Lakes (watersports & outdoor centre) 3 miles inland. Clovelly 11 miles North. Appledore 22 miles North. Padstow 40 miles South. Rock 36 miles South

Woolacombe 38 miles North. Tintagel 22 miles South. Eden Project 43 miles South.

Further Details:

Church View Cottage is located in a very well served village with two small shops, a post-office, butchers, fish and chip shop, pizza cafe and two good pubs. The shops, are open 8am to 8pm means you can just pop down the road for a pint of milk, loaf of bread, bottle of wine - or try out the butchers or the farm shop on the edge of the village for your Sunday roast, fresh veg or a pasty.

Bude has a wide variety of local shops, plus supermarkets, banks, chemists, cafes, restaurants and a childrens' indoor play area / bowling and an indoor swimming pool. The newly renovated canal, is a great place for a gentle walk or canoe.

Tamar Lakes - two lakes offering a variety of activities including watersports, angling, walking, cycling or just relaxing.

Facilities

From the Owner

We do our best to make Church View Cottage home from home. It's well equipped if you want to cook, rather than take advantage of the two pubs, fish & chip shop, pizza place and chinese take-away in the village. The back garden is enclosed and safe for children, and stair gates are fitted at the top and bottom of the stairs. The cottage has thick stone walls walls - keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Central heating and a wood-burner keep you cosy in the winter months. High quality 100% cotton linen and towels High-speed broadband - free WiFi Mobiles have good network coverage Helen and her team looks after Church View Cottage for us - which means we always have someone local for us and our guests to call if we have a problem, which gives us great peace of mind.
