About Ray Catt

Family-owned property that we are renting out so that others may enjoy the many attractions in the local area.

Ray Catt purchased this villa in 2011

Why Ray Catt chose Vallespir

We have enjoyed many holidays in various regions of France. We decided to buy in the Languedoc for the 300 days of sunshine; close proximity to both the coast and skiiing, and the beautiful scenery of the Pyrenees.

L'Esperia is at the edge of town so it is easy to wander down to get your croissant in the morning, and you have access to all the facilities you might need, including restaurants and a market.

The town is well know for its spas. There are two, one of which offers many beauty treatments.

The town of Amelie les Bains is close to Ceret (less than 10 minutes by car) with its art museum and bustling town centre. During the summer there are often fesitvals taking place.

What makes this villa unique

The views from L'Esperia are always spectacular. Breakfast on the terrace in the morning sun is such a treat.

There are many activities on offer in the local area. For example swimming in the lakes, kayaking, tubing, caving, mountain bikiing, horse riding or simply relaxing by the pool, enjoying the sunshine.

There are a number of golf clubs nearby.

The beaches of France and spain are approximately half hours drive away.

Further afield are Barcelona and Carcassone, both worthy of a visit. Also Figueres home to the famous Dali museum

In short Amelie les Bains is a great base for exploring the area, with good access to the motorway system for longer day trips.

Wonderful location, views from the terrace, lunches by the pool, plenty of space, bedrooms

  • 4 of 5

A great villa - wonderful family holiday. View is fantastic from terrace - amazing lunches by the pool and BBQs on the terrace in the evening. Huge amount of space so not on top of each other. Really good value and would book again definitely. Just a few minor things that were attended to rapidly such as kettle. You won't regret booking.

Good communication with housekeeper and owner - thank you both for making holiday hassle-free.

Spacious property with spectacular views

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from our second holiday to L'Esperia. This extremely spacious property is well equipped, clean tidy and has absolutely everything you will need for a relaxing break. The house is situated at the end of a quiet road, and is completely un-overlooked providing peace and privacy for a thoroughly restful holiday. The swimming pool is a good size, surrounded by sun loungers and parasols.

Fresh fruit vegetables and bread can be purchased from a daily market, 10 minutes’ walk away or supermarkets can be easily accessed by car within a ten minute drive – or shuttle buses run regularly from Amelie for 1 euro per trip. We visited the impressive spa in Amelie for an aqua aerobic session - which was great fun too.

The nearby town of Ceret is absolutely beautiful, with stunning scenery, architecture, alfresco restaurants and bars – a must see.

We love visiting Amelie, it is sleepy and unspoiled with lots of charm and character - like stepping back in time.

Great place for both children and their parents

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful place. The view from the balcony was outstanding and we had all our meals sitting there – it was so relaxing. We also loved the pool and the atmosphere here with palm trees and BBQ. The house was lovely with a very nice kitchen and bathrooms. In the hot afternoons, we could go inside the house and it was nice and cool.

We also enjoyed go to town in the morning having the first cup of coffee at the main square – here we also bought fruit and veg. A very nice little town with restaurants and cafes.

The area was also beautiful and if we went uphill, we were able to see the Mediterranean. We had several trips to other areas nearby where we had lot of good experiences – Barcelona was only a couple of hours away.

We believe that you will enjoy your stay as much as we did.

Location

Nearest Airport
30 Kilometres
Perpignan
Nearest Restaurant
400 Metres
Green Pepper / Poivre Vert
Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

The beaches of the Mediterranean are within easy reach, approx 45 minutes by car. Argeles has long golden beaches is under 25 miles away. The beautiful coastal town of Coullioure, with its ramparts and many shore front restaurants is a similar distance.

Travel:

Girona airport just over 1 hour, Perpignan airport approx 30 minutes by car. We can arrange pick-up, drop-off at these airports for an additional cost.

Although we would recommend a car to get the most from the surrounding area, there is plenty to do within Amelie les Bains, and there is a coach company providing a choice of day trips if you do not want to drive.

Distances:

Amelie Les Bains: shops, restaurants, spa, adventure activities less than 1 mile. Ceret: Modern Art Museum, restaurants, supermarket, Saturday morning market, numerous festivals, cherry capital of France 5 miles. Perpignan: Department capital 25 miles. Figueres, Spain: Dali Museum 30 miles.

Further Details:

Nestled in the valley of the River Tech and enjoying a wonderful climate and beautiful scenery. Many artists, including Picasso, have made this area their home, especially in the early 20th century, and the Modern Art museum in Ceret is evidence of this. Many of the paintings show local scenes. The geography of the area lends itself to many outdoor activities. There are many walking routes, horse riding, canoeing, mountain biking. But for the less adventurous lakes and rivers for sunbathing and picnics. There are also opportunites to taste the produce of the area. There are several domaines offering wine tasting.
