This is a lovely 1st floor, 2 bedroom apartment located in the small village of Campagnano on the Eastern banks of Lake Maggiore. The property is in a great location, only 12 minutes from the lakeside beaches at Maccagno which also boasts a host of good restaurants. There is also restaurant just 200 metres walk from the apartment. The property enjoys spectacular views of the lake which can be enjoyed from the interior, from the terrace and from the garden which is shared with 1 other apartment. The apartment has a lovely homely, warm feeling and is a nice mix of modern and traditional Italian styles. Free WIFI access. Satellite TV.

About the Owner

I am a mother with 2 children, age 9 & 12 and a very busy husband! I gave up work with Procter and Gamble 9 years ago to spend time at home with the children. I have loved being able to spend so much time with them. However, with both children now at school, I was keen to start working again. I initially enjoyed managing two of our own holiday properties in the Italian Lakes which we bought in 2008 and 2009 following our first visit to the area in 2007. However, I have now started to manage holiday homes for others, not just in the Italian Lakes, but elsewhere in Italy through my website - I carefully select each property and ensure that I maintain that personal but professional service level that I believe holidaymakers are looking for.

Well equipped flat with great view over Maggiore the only down side being the 6km of narrow roads with hairpin beds to get there.

Lake Maggiore is one of my favourite places in Italy. There's nothing better than waking up in the morning, looking out of the window, and seeing spectacular views of the lake. It's also a great place for people of all ages....there is plenty to do whether you're 2 years old or 80 years old! It's a perfect location for walkers too with some great hikes starting right from the front door of the property.

Coast/Beach:

Lake Maggiore boasts several lovely beaches. The nearest beaches to the property are 12 minutes drive away at Maccagno, one of the best beaches on the lake to enjoy watersports such as windsurfing, sailing and kitesurfing. Many towns around the lake also have their own lido with access to the lake as well as wonderful swimming pools. Of particular note are the lidos at Locarno, Lugano and Ascona.

Travel:

Fly to Milan Malpensa: The nearest airport is Milan Malpensa which is approx 60 miles from the house. Easyjet flies here from London, Bristol or Edinburgh, or you can travel by BA or from London Heathrow, Monarch from London Gatwick or Flybe from Birmingham and Manchester.

Fly to Milan Linate: Transfer time from the airport is approximately 120 mins. Easyjet and BA fly to Linate from London.

Fly to Milan Bergamo: Transfer time from the airport is approx 120 mins. Car hire is essential.

Distances:

The property is situated in the heart of the old village of Campagnano, an idyllic mountain village just 10 minutes drive from the lakeside. The streets of the old town are very narrow so no cars can pass through, making it extremely peaceful. There is a restaurant just 200 metres from the property - Ristorante Pozzo.

Further Details:

The villa is perfectly placed for visiting Luino, Cannobio, Cannero, Stresa, Ascona & the Borromean Islands. A great day out is the Lago Maggiore Express by boat up to Ascona & Locarno where you take the '100 Valley' train into the Swiss Alps then connect to Stresa & back by boat to Luino.

Also in Switzerland, Valle Verzasca & Valle Maggia are worth a visit. You can visit the Verzasca Dam which features in Goldeneye. The river is fantastic to swim in & the setting is idyllic.

Como is just an hours drive. Lake Como enjoys its own ferry service and features Bellagio, Varenna & Villa Carlotta.

In the other direction, Orta San Giulio is definitely one of the prettiest villages on any of the Italian Lakes.

It's a 45 min drive from Lugano & the Monte Salvatore funicular. There is a beautiful lido here too which I would recommend. The brand new lido in Locarno (opened Oct 2009) is also superb.

Or you can catch a train into Milan city centre & go shopping. It's a short metro train ride to Santa Maria delle Grazie & Da Vinci's painting of 'The Last Supper.' Or if you're more of a sports fan, you can take a tour of San Siro stadium.

For cheaper shopping, Luino boasts the biggest weekly market in Europe. Or you could have a look at Foxtown, an outlet centre where the most famous international brands offer their products at factory prices.

The nearest beaches at Maccagno are no more than 10 mins away and are one of the best spots on the lake to enjoy watersports.

Val Veddasca is ideal for hiking. The scenery and nature is fabulous. Most of the nearby mountains also have tracks for mountain bikes.

The area offers plenty to do for children - Swissminiatur, a Swiss chocolate factory and the European Museum of Transport. Monte Tamaro is a great place with an alpine bob sleigh and the longest flying fox in Switzerland! Or you could try your hand at falconry or visit a safari park! In the summer, there is a huge waterpark near Milan.

This is a lovely property in a location that means you will feel like you really are experiencing the real Italy. The views of the lake are spectacular and it has a garden shared with one other apartment, perfect for lazy days in the sun. It's also great all year round - only 20 minutes from the ski resort at the top of the mountain but only 12 minutes from the lakeside in the summer.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: As you enter the property there is a long tiled hallway. At one end of this, there is a small balcony with lake views. Leading off the hallway is good sized living area. This is a bright airy room with lake views from 2 windows. Furnished in blue and white 'nautical' colours, it has plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs as well as a table seating four. Satellite TV with UK channels. Next to the living area is a large, well equipped modern kitchen with stainless steel oven and hob, dishwasher and washing machine. There is a table in the middle of the room seating six. The property has 2 bedrooms, both with double beds and both with views of the lake. The smaller of the bedrooms has doors leading out on to a terrace overlooking the lake. There are two brand new bathrooms at the property which has both a bath and shower, sink, bidet and toilet. The property has been recently renovated and modernised but still retains the character and warmth of a traditional Italian property. Outside: There is a garden with spectacular lake view which is shared with 1 other property. The garden is mostly lawned and is a perfect place for a spot of sunbathing or quiet reading as it gets the sun all day long. Utility Room: The property does not have a separate utility room but there is a washing machine in the kitchen. An iron and ironing board are also provided. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is thoroughly cleaned before your arrival. Towels and linen are provided for use during your stay.
