Cottage in Bramfield, Halesworth, Suffolk - 200 yard walk to award winning country pub and only 6 miles to Heritage Coast

The Annexe contains a living room, a kitchen with dining area, two bedrooms (1 king, 1 twin). Steeped in history, the property used to form part of a wagon wheel making factory, and some of the original wheel strappings are visible, as well as timber beams throughout. It has been equipped with all the conveniences of modern living (including wifi), but great care has been taken by the owners not to compromise its traditional feel.

Why Paul and Helen Venn chose Suffolk

We love this area and have been holidaying here for several years. We love the slow pace of life and the fact that you can come here in the peak summer months and not be stuck in traffic at all (like some places on the south coast!). The sea is warm(ish!) in summer and there are loads of great beaches but not overcrowded. The pubs are great too!

This was a lovely cottage, in a perfect location.

We had a lovely few days in this cottage. The owners were very flexible with dates and we found it very well equipped. Many some hooks to hang up coats would be useful. It is in a lovely area with day trips to Southwold, Aldeburgh and Framlingham all in easy reach.

There was plenty of kitchen equipment and everything was clean and well thought out. Would definitely recommend to family and friends although need to beware of the low doorways.

We went to the local pub with a friendly welcome and can recommend the Raj Putha Indian restaurant at Halesworth. The co-op in Halesworth was very useful too.

One tip - take slippers as the downstairs carpet is very hard under foot.

Central location for all the points of interest and ideal for us as a base for a long weekend.

Two adults and 1 young child and a dog and the accommodation was ideal.

Took the dog on the beach every morning which was 15 mins away but worth the effort

The cottage is as described 'quirky' and grateful of the bolsters on the roof beams

A gem of a cottage

We arrived on a very cold evening to find a really warm cottage and were so pleased to find every item you could wish for to make your stay the best. The cottage has been furnished as if you live there down to the minute detail. The bed was comfy and warm but there were extra supplies of bedding so when the temperatures dipped even further, it didnt matter one jot! We shopped in the farm shop in the village and visited Southwold, RSPB Minsmere and the Hen Reedbeds - all within a short drive of the cottage. We will definitely be returning again.

A lovely, cosy property with everything we needed for a getaway break with the dog.

We found this property to be very comfortable. Although it still retains it's original charm, the upgrading of the heating and bathroom to a high standard make it a great base for exploring the area. (Don't miss the crinkle-crankle wall opposite the church)

Nearest Airport : NORWICH at 50 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : QUEENS HEAD at 250 Metres Nearest Golf : HALESWORTH at 2 Miles Nearest Beach : DUNWICH at 10 Kilometres

Coast/Beach:

6 miles to closest beach at Dunwich, with fantastic fish and chip cafe (seasonal). Several other beaches closeby (within 15 miles), including Southwold, Covehithe, Alodeburgh and Thorpeness.

Travel:

Norwich airport 30 miles. Felixstowe port 30 miles

Distances:

Halesworth 3 miles, Southwold 8 miles, Thorpeness, Aldeburgh 12 miles, Framlingham Castle 10 miles.

The Queens Head at Bramfield - award winning country pub - 200 yard walk

KW Clarke, butchers and grocers also in village. Halesworth town closeby with supermarkets, cashpoints etc.

Aldeburgh: picturesque seaside town on the river Alde - was home to Benjamin Britten. At the north end of the beach is a shell sculpture named ‘The Scallop’ created by local artist Maggie Hambling in tribute to Britten. Covehithe beach is north of Southwold and is a lovely sandy beach with a great coastal walk.

Dunwich Heath (owned by the National Trust) is close by with great walks and picnic spots.

Framlingham Castle was built in 1189. Visitors can walk around the top of the castles curtain walls (the inner buildings have been demolished). There are picnic tables on the lawns within the walls.

Minsmere is among the best RSBP sites in Suffolk. It is situated on the coast near Aldeburgh and has a large visitor centre, shop and tea room.

Snape Maltings – a complex comprising a concert hall, shops and galleries. home to the renowned Aldeburgh Festival.

Southwold is a picturesque coastal town with a large sandy beach. There are a variety of eateries and shops, an elegant pier (with the requisite ‘arcade’) and a lighthouse open to visitors.

Sutton Hoo - an Anglo Saxon site of major importance where the ship burial of one of the earliest English kings was found and excavated.

Thorpeness – laid out in the early 1900’s around The Meare, a manmade lake. In August the lake plays host to the Thorpness Regatta. There is also a lovely shingle beach, a windmill to climb in to and the remarkable ‘House in the Clouds’ which was originally the water tank used by the village.

Walberswick – a little passenger ferry carries pedestrians and cyclists across the River Blyth at Walberswick which is renowned for crabbing, an activity for everyone to enjoy.

  • Notes on accommodation: Property well heated by newly installed heating system, with portable control. Also provided free of charge are high chair, travel cot, child bed guard, removable stair gate, iron/ironing board, hairdryer, picnic backpack, blankets, hot water bottle. Outside: Paved area to rear of house with garden furniture and barbeque. Gravel area to side of house (alternative entrance to house through side patio doors). Gravel drive at front of house with ample parking space for two vehicles. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen provided free of charge.
