About the Owner

8 1/2 John Street is run by Christel Johnstone. Her husband, David, works away and renovated 8 1/2 over two years. David was born in the village of Balintore and met Christel when she owned one of the local hotels. They married several years ago and still live in the village.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Staying at 81/2 John St was like a home away from home. We had everything we needed and it was very comfortable. We will definitely return to Balintore and recommend this as a holiday home to anyone. Thank you Christel and David for making our stay so enjoyable." Chelsey Tunbridge, Kaitlyn Parrott, Kailah King and Kat Mercer, Perth, Western Australia. July 2011

"We spent so happy days in this house during the marriage of my sister. We also had so good sunny weather and a wedding ceremony at the lighthouse like in a fairy tale. We wish you many gentle guests in this house and that they spend as luck days here as us." - Gabriela and Robert Maettner, Ulm, Germany, August 2011.

"For the wonderful days which we spent here on the occasion of our daughter's wedding we would like to thank you dear David and dear Christel cordially." Mr & Mrs Maettner, Darmstadt, Germany, August 2011

Spotless, Spacious, 5 Star Finish, Relaxing and Welcoming!

  • 5 of 5

This property is understated in its presentation. Pictures and descriptions can't give it justice. It's like a tardis, great sized rooms, beautiful kitchen and 3 well finished bathrooms that would give a 5 star hotel a run for its money. The quality of finish and attention to detail in this home is one of the best I've seen, with everything thought of to make your stay so comfortable. You could literally just bring yourself and clothes and all else is catered for. Obviously you need food but even then the cupboards have some essentials. The owner lives nearby and is so helpful and accommodating. We would return here without hesitation even just to stay in the home alone. It's an excellent base for touring the north east and Inverness is under an hour away. Wifi is also good. Great modern house, 3 bedroom sleeps 7 comfortably - beds are really good - honestly nothing needs improving! A joy to stay in - thank you!

Lovely accommodations that are extremely clean & tidy. The hostess makes you feel very welcome and has all the necessities plus extra towels and such that aren't always available in other locations. A gorgeous beach and wonderful Inn for dinner 5 minutes from the cottage. Would recommend to any interested in top notch accommodations!

Excellent cottage in a great landscape

  • 5 of 5

We are a family with 4 children and really enjoyed this spacious, clean and well equipped home away from home. The location has an excellent beach and is not too far away for a trip to the northern end of Scotland. Together with the good sunny and warm weather it made a perfect stay in Scotland.

8 & 1/2 John St, Balintore

  • 5 of 5

A lovely week spent in a lovely cottage. The facilities were brilliant with everything we could possibly need and much more. Spotlessly clean, modern and tons of space for our party which was 6 adults and 2 toddlers. A lovely warm welcome from Christel and a very welcome bottle of wine!! We couldn't fault the cottage and it was a great base to see the surrounding area.

Location

From the Owner

Balintore is one of the Seaboard villages situated on the east coast of Ross-shire, in the Scottish Highlands. Over looking the Moray Firth, Balintore was a traditional fishing village. The centrally located harbour is just a minutes walk from the house. The peaceful village location offers essential amenities and is an ideal base for exploring the Highlands. Although Easter Ross is a remote rural area the city of Inverness is only 40 minutes by car. We have lived in Balintore for many years and love the area.
