Lovely farmhouse in beautiful Vendee countryside

  • 5 of 5

We have recently returned from our stay at this property. We had a great time here and the house was exactly as advertised with everything provided that we would need. It proved to be a good base for our many day trips. Marguarita who lives next door was always on hand if we needed anything and we enjoyed chatting to her. Our son especially enjoyed telling her about the wildlife he was encountering such as prey mantis, lizards, frogs and so on. To our delight we also saw an owl that often perched on the barn nearby. Sitting on the balcony outside the living room with a drink of an evening listening to rural life was a nice way to feel we had 'escaped'. About 30 minutes drive from here was activities we enjoyed around the Mervent forest such as the zoo, Park Pierre Brun and the lake at Chassenon. Missing it already and hope to be back!

Fantastic fortnight in this lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a two-week stay here, and wish we could have stayed longer! The four of us (myself, husband and our children aged 14 and 16) really appreciated the well laid out and well equipped accommodation and found plenty to do during our stay. The table tennis in one of the barns was a big hit, perfect for evenings, and the large open-air barn was great for relaxing in the shade and having a barbecue. We had a few dips in the pool too! There was also a terrace area next to the sitting room which was a sun trap and had lovely views of the local countryside, as well as table and chairs outside the kitchen and sun loungers on the grass. The bicycles were an added bonus and we enjoyed several bike rides through the peaceful local area. The Mervant forest was approx 20 minutes away and we hired pedalos and walked round the lake there, also visiting the small medieval village of Vouvant. We also visited Mervant Zoo which was a very pleasant day - up close with giraffes, tigers, monkeys and wallabies - much closer than many zoos we've visited in the U.K., and nowhere near as crowded. Puy du Fou is approx half an hour away and we had been recommended by friends to pay a visit there, and were so glad we did. It's an amazing place with spectacular shows based on various periods of history, such as the Roman amphitheatre, complete with chariot racing and lions and tigers. Yes it's busy but doesn't feel it when walking around. But most of all, we enjoyed the peaceful cottage, it's in the middle of the countryside so no traffic noise at all, and very easy to relax. Margarita was around and happy to help if asked but respected our privacy too. She has created a lovely set up and we would recommend it to anyone.

Charming cottage, beautifully presented, well equipped, peaceful location, ideal for exploring area

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is beautifully presented and is impressively equipped to provide everything needed for a real home from home experience. Mrs Harris was lovely, very accommodating and helpful.

The location of the cottage is so peaceful and beautiful - perfect for relaxing but for those who want to explore this area of the Vendee there is so much within a half an hour drive of the cottage. The Puy Du Fou is just fantastic for all ages, the Mervent forest has so many activities including open water swimming in the Vendee, there is the peaceful magic of a boat trip in Green Venice (Mazeau offers great trips - and 'light' the water experiment that my son enjoyed), and a train ride on the Vendee Vapeur is also very enjoyable, not to mentioned beautiful villages, towns and chateaus, fantastic fresh local produce and everyone was just so friendly and welcoming. In fact a week just isn't long enough!

Would highly recommend!

Classic Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Last summer my family and I had a fantastic time in the heart of the Vendee region of France. The facilities on offer were perfect and enabled us to enjoy a complete break from all the stresses and strains of modern life. The guest house was fantastically traditional whilst having all the modern day conveniences. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in the heart of France I highly recommend you visit here.

As you and you family are keen cyclist I think you'll want to know at the back of one of the fields we are building a skills trail with different degrees of challenges.Hopefully you will all come here again. Meantime thanks again and all the very best to you and your family. Margarita :-)

Fabulous holiday

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I chose this location for our annual reunion and we were delighted with our choice. The farmhouse is beautiful and the location enabled us to chill out as the area is so tranquil. The accommodation was spic and span and had absolutely everything we needed and we loved the beautiful French furniture. The owner was very helpful in telling us about historic places to visit and also about visiting the French antique markets which we loved. We are actually planning to return this year and I would recommend the property to families or groups like ours (over fifties).
