About the property

Our 4 barns are converted to a high standard. Each with underfloor heating, all the mod cons, private gardens with furniture. They have a shared games room with table football, ping pong & pool table. Yarpole is a very pretty village in North Herefordshire bordering Shropshire. To the south we have the market town of Leominster just 4 miles away, a lovely town to explore, especially for the antique shop lovers. To the north, 5 miles away, we have Ludlow, with its reputation for fine food & dining. Both have farmers markets and a wealth of history. We are very lucky to have 2 wonderful National Trust properties very close. Croft Castle and Berrington Hall are both well worth a visit. This is an ideal location for families with young children. The whole site is safe for the very young to have fun & play with no worries of any traffic. We have a selection of ride on toys (or bring your own) & they will love to see the animals & have ride on a tractor.

About Cordelia Niblett

We are the Niblett family. David & Cordelia & children, Eleanor 11, Bertie 9 & Oscar 7. The Niblett family have farmed in Herefordshire since 1947. It has gone through various changes over the years but recently we have taken the opportunity to develop the redundant stone & brick barns into the 4 holiday barns, which we are very proud of. Property reference E3091.

We bought the apartment in Les Carroz because of our love for skiing and have had many happy holidays there over the years and also discovered how beautiful it is in the summer too. Property reference FR23934

Cordelia Niblett purchased this cottage in 1949

Why Cordelia Niblett chose Herefordshire

In 1947 when the farm was bought Mrs Niblett senior did not like the farm & the house, she thought it was a shame to be on the edge of the village & not surrounded by countryside.

We are now so grateful it is where it is, on the edge of such a pretty village with our beautiful farm land the other, it could not be better. We are on the north Herefordshire/shropshire boarder. With Ludlow to the north & Leominster to the south, both very different towns but both charming. We have 2 NT properties locally & a huge number of walks of all levels, to suit the amblers or the ramblers. It is a quite location, but the hustle of a town is never far away.

What makes this cottage unique

The 4 properties are situated on our farm, not far from our farmhouse or from each other. The village of Yarpole has an excellent pub & in the church there is a shop & cafe run by locals. The village has a great sense of a happy community and bursting with friendly people.

Our farm is at the end of a lane with a big yard which is very safe & secure particularly if you have small children to keep up with. We have a lovely games room with ping pong, table football/air hockey & pool. We do use it too, but you get priority. It is heated by a wood burner, making it very cosy. 3 of the barns have all weather hot tubs, hours of entertainment for all ages.

The benefit of having the 4 properties is that we can sleep up to 31 people with lots of space for everyone

Great place

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We had a family gathering taking up the Cowshed and Roller Mill - 13 of us aged from 6 to 86. The owner, Cordelia, was very welcoming and easy going - home made, still warm chocolate brownies on arrival, and even let me park my caravan in the yard. The barns are done up to a very high standard. Loads of space. All 13 of us could congregate in the Cowshed main room (kitchen/diner/lounge). Stone floors - good for dogs. As well as the shared play room, there is a large central yard where we played cricket with Cordelia's kids. Only slight criticism might be that the 'garden' for each barn is little uninspired - just a fenced off space where you can sit out - but it will keep your dog in!

Yarpole is a very pretty village. Check out the amazing community village shop and café inside the church, and the ancient bell tower. The pub in the village did good, reasonably priced food as well. Croft Castle is a nice day out - house, gardens and parkland, and the walk up Bircher Common to the top of the hill is beautiful - about a 5 mile round trip from the cottages. Lovely accommodation in a lovely part of the world.

Weekend Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The perfect place for a birthday family gathering ! The Cowshed is a warm spacious , yet homely, converted barn offering privacy ( 4 en-suites) and home comforts .

Our party consisted of 3 generations and every need was catered for . The hot tub was much appreciated after sightseeing and an excess of food - the perfect way to relax even on a cold wet evening .

The barns are situated in the picturesque village of Yarpole which has a handy local shop situated in the nearby church . Two major supermarkets are within reach by car for all needs.

The recommended (very) local pub , The Bell , was excellent .We sampled Sunday lunch there and all the food was delicious and the hostess friendly and attentive .

Croft Castle was worth the visit , Ludlow is lovely , Leominster a little disappointing although the coffee shops were good .

The downfall was we only had three nights there !
