The nearest general store is approximately 1½ miles from the barn just off the roundabout at the bottom of Babylon Hill on the road into Yeovil where you will find a 24hr Co-op forming part of a petrol station forecourt. There is also a midnight Boots Pharmacy off this roundabout on the retail park. The main shopping centre is approximately 4 miles away in Yeovil where all the major high street names can be found including 3 supermarkets. Sherborne, situated 120 miles west of London in North Dorset close to the Somerset Dorset border is a showpiece of the West of England and is one of the most attractive small towns in England. There are few, if any, other towns that can boast such a wealth of medieval buildings, 16th and 17th century houses, ancient inns and almshouses as well as its magnificent Abbey, famous historic school and two castles.

Sherborne ‘New’ Castle & Lakeside Gardens- Built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594, Sherborne Castle has been home of the Digby family since 1617. Set in 40 acres of glorious ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped gardens and grounds around his 50 acre lake, the castle contains a splendid collection of art, furniture and porcelain.

Sherborne ‘Old’ Castle- Ruins of the 12th Century castle built for the Bishops of Salisbury. It was acquired by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1592 but he was unable to convert it into a wonderful home, so he built Sherborne Lodge, now the New Castle. It was destroyed in 16 days by Cromwell in the Civil War. English Heritage own the site.

Sherborne Abbey- Founded by St. Aldhelm in AD 705.

  • Notes on accommodation: The Shippens is a newly converted barn in 2007. All of the fixtures and fittings are to a very high standard. The lounge and dining area are extremely spacious and can easily seat 6 adults. The master bedroom is exceptionally large and comfortable, the other 2 bedrooms are of a good size. Outside: The barn is south facing so gets sunshine all day, through to the evening. The property has a terrace with an eating / seating area as well as a charcoal BBQ. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Property cleaned weekly. Price includes full linen and towels for each room
