Vue de Duras Gite - as featured in the Living France magazine and ITV's "Little England" programme.

Standing in the large grounds of Vue de Duras is our gite that opened in June 2011 and featured in ITV's "Little England" and the Living France magazine. It is a lovely two bedroom holiday cottage that still has its original lovely old oak beams that have been incorporated into a comfortable and stylish interior. Vue de Duras was awarded a certificate of excellence by TripAdvisor in 2014.

It is set on the south facing slope of a valley with spectacular views of Duras and its chateau. It is in a very peaceful location among vines and plum trees, and is accessed from the village of Savignac de Duras by a country lane. The clear skies with little light pollution give an amazing show of the stars and planets at night.

The two bedrooms have the latest zip and link beds that can be arranged as king-size double or twin beds. Each bedroom has its own en-suite shower room, wc and wash basin. The open plan lounge with dining and kitchen area leads directly onto a covered terrace, making the most of the beautiful south facing views over the valley to the château at Duras.

Guests have full use of the large tiled swimming pool and the pétanque pitch. There is an HD TV with English & French channels and Wifi in the gîte and on the terrace. Guests taking a winter break will be able to relax in front of a roaring fire in the gîte's log burner.

We are situated on the borders of the Lot and Garonne, the Dordogne and the Gironde and so are ideally placed for exploring the beautiful countryside, medieval towns, vineyards and markets of all 3 departments. Only 2 miles from the medieval town of Duras and 35 minutes drive from Bergerac. In Duras you will find restaurants, bars, shops, supermarkets, banks, a weekly market and Duras Chateau - a major tourist attraction. There are 2 golf courses within 20 minutes drive.

The gite is situated adjacent but apart from the Vue de Duras chambres d'hotes so gite guests can extend their stay by extra nights if necessary. Gite guests are welcome to use the computer/printer and borrow books from the house.

Hugh and Fiona who live in the house are very happy to provide information on the local area as well as maps. You are also welcome to borrow a sat nav if required.

If you are travelling with Brittany Ferries you are eligible to a 10% discount on fares - please ask Hugh and Fiona for details.

About the Owner

My name is Fiona, I am happily married to Hugh, and we are living our dream in the south west of France.

In the UK I was a primary teacher and Hugh an IT project manager. We have both had to develop many skills to enable us to make a success of our new life here. We now wear many hats – pool boy, boulangerie boy, maintenance man, grass cutter, log stacker, marketing manager, builder, chef, baker, decorator, chicken keeper, laundress, gardener, cleaner, tourist guide, wine and cheese taster………. the list is endless with some more enjoyable that others!

We have discovered that we enjoy meeting complete strangers and turning them into friends. We love to see people who arrive here stressed, leave more relaxed as our little bit of paradise works its magic.

We stayed in the 2 bed gite for a week. The weather was good for that time of year and Hugh very kindly kept the pool open for my daughter to swim in. The whole booking process was easy and Fiona was always prompt in replying to emails. The gite and B&B is in a lovely village just outside Duras and the views were beautiful. It was helpful that there was British tv and wifi. The gite was clean and comfortable with everything you need. Fiona and Hugh were excellent hosts and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend staying there. Great for exploring a beautiful area of France.

Excellent B&B

  • 5 of 5

It's hard to fault. Very good all round, wonderful views out over the valley towards the Chateau. Tastefully decorated and furnished. Very clean, comfortable beds, nice linen, extensive choice at breakfast complimented by interesting collection of crockery. Peace and tranquility abound broken only by the cheeping of the little chick which hatched on our first morning.

Beautiful little gem

  • 5 of 5

We've recently returned from a fantastic stay at the 'Vue de Duras' and enjoyed every minute. We were made to feel extremely welcome by Hugh and Fiona the hosts, who were so helpful with everything, full of good advice and nothing was too much trouble for them. The gite is in a great position, with a handy super market just 10 minutes away. The typically French village of Duras is charming and just a short drive from the gite where you can enjoy the bars and restaurants it has to offer. The gite itself is delightful and decorated with pretty pieces of hand painted furniture and has such a homely feel that you can't help but completely relax!

The breakfast was perfectly laid out each morning and we were given a lovely choice of fresh fruit, croissants, breads and cereals and enjoyed these whilst sat on the terrace overlooking the pool...perfect start to the day.

We defiantly recommend the Vue de Duras and will most certainly be returning.

Thank you Hugh & Fiona for such a lovely holiday with memories we will keep forever.

Location

From the Owner

Luck was with us on the day that the estate agent showed us 8 houses. Despite only looking to narrow down our search and find somewhere to rent to settle down for the long hunt for the right place, by lunch time we had seen the perfect property – fantastic views, photogenic, not too big/small, too much/little land, not too much work needed, in a friendly and welcoming community and in a famed micro-climate. We put in an offer immediately and four months later we moved in. Our luck continued with our choice of builder to help us prepare the house to receive guests. It now boasts three en-suite guest rooms, one a suite of two bedrooms sharing a luxury shower room. All with the views we had dreamt of. We still have to pinch ourselves, occasionally to remind us that it's all real!

Facilities

From the Owner

We are an oasis of peace and tranquillity, surrounded by beautiful countryside, yet close to plenty of attractions to interest visitors. In summer, breakfast is served on the terrace to enable our guests to take in the stunning view. Vue de Duras is surrounded by plum trees producing Agen prunes and vines producing grapes for Cotes de Duras wines. Merlot grapes border our garden, grown for the delicious La Perriconne wine. Local boulangeries, markets and wine growers provide all the fresh produce we need to cater for our guests. Our hens complete the idyllic picture. We are half an hour from Bergerac airport, just over an hour from Bordeaux, and close enough to enjoy all the famous delights of the Dordogne. Closer still are canoeing, horse riding, cycling, walking, chateaux and vineyards.
