Farmhouse in Cancon, Villeneuve sur Lot, Aquitaine / Dordogne, France - Situated In A Very Peaceful Location But Only 5 Minutes From The Nearest Village

This beautifully restored farmhouse is light and airy and occupies an enviable position in the heart of the Lot countryside. It is approached down a long drive, over a stream and flanked by weeping willow trees. A new salt water swimming pool with roman steps and decking overlooks the 10 acres of parkland and woodland. Behind the property is an orchard of fruits and nuts which you are welcome to sample. There is a small fishing lake to sit by and enjoy watching the native butterflies and dragonflies and watch the green frogs and crayfish. There is a raised terrace to the front of the property for BBQ and dining. There is also a large warm conservatory.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: The farmhouse is very homely and bright, a high standard of furnishings and tastefully decorated. There are three separate staircases and a lot of quirky features and interesting architecture. Part of the accommodation is quite separate from the rest so would suit two families holidaying together. Lovely large communal areas in the lounge, kitchen and conservatory. There is a small verandah on the roof with far reaching views over neighbouring sunflower fields The conservatory doors can be opened onto a raised terrace for outdoor dining. There are 10 acres of park and woodland to enjoy and a brand new swimming pool with decking and sunloungers. Outside: Ten acres of parkland, woodland and garden to enjoy, raised terrace and enclosed 10x5 pool with Roman steps,decking and 8 sunloungers with two umbrellas. There is a small BBQ and two tables with eight chairs and shades. There are many shadey areas under weeping willow trees. There is a seat overlooking the lake for relaxing and viewing the wildlife. There is a flat area of the garden which is lawned and suitable for ball games. Utility Room: In the utility room you have another gas hob and fridge for independent cooking should there be more than one family, or young children. Here is the washing machine and tumble drier, ironing board and iron and the plastic outdoor crockery. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Please leave the property and grounds clean and tidy, with rubbish and recycling removed and beds stripped. Kitchen and bathroom surfaces should be wiped and floors swept. All towels/linen are provided but not pool towels. Other: The kitchen has a dining area which has a table and six chairs and a cream woodburning stove and maple flooring. There is also a large conservatory with a further table and 4 chairs (a highchair is provided) here also a sofa and a table for artists.

Coast/Beach:

The Atlantic coast is 2 hours drive but a man-made lake and beach is 7 minutes away by car at Lougratte where children can swim in a roped off area, there is a water slide, slides, swings, toilets and a bar for snacks and ice-cream.

Travel:

Bergerac Airport 27 minutes from farmhouse. Toulouse and Bordeaux 2 hours.

Nearest ferry St Malo 6 hours drive. Car hire is essential.

Distances:

The nearest village is Cancon, 5 minutes in the car and has all amenities. Bergerac is 40 minutes and Villeneuve sur Lot is 20 minutes. The 13C Bastide towns of Villereal, Monflanquin, Monpazier and Issigeac are between 15 and 40 minutes away. They all have medieval fairs, markets, antiques and chariot racing. Night markets in the summer months. There are chateaux winetasting, canoeing and adventure parks, swimming and bike hire within the region.

Further Details:

The nearest restaurant is the Resto du Lac 3 minutes by car where you can have pizza and pasta and sit outdoors and feed the two resident swans. Cancon has two small supermarkets, bank, doctor, dentist, post office, tourist office and bars. Villereal has a market day on Saturday and Wednesday too in the Summer, Bar Moderne is popular for lunch and dinner and set beside the market square. Villeneuve Sur Lot has a large Ele Clerc supermarket for weekly shopping and there is a Casino supermarket at Monflanquin. The historic market square is set on top of a hill and worth going for the magnificent views.

Monpazier is the most stunning of bastide villages, Issigeac has a fantastic antique market where everything is laid out under the trees and you can stroll around and have lunch or coffee at one of the many bars and their Sunday market is hugely popular. Beaumont also has an antique fair. The medieval days are fantastic entertainment, where all the village goes back in time. People dress especially for the day and there are small plays, street entertainers, hog roast, donkey rides, games for children and adults.

Evening chariot racing is a great way to enjoy a meal and a flutter! Most villages have bodegas, where you can join the locals in street parties. Canoeing on the Dordogne, the wonderful Chateau Biron, Winetasting at Chateau Monbazillac. You will enjoy all the fresh fruit and vegetables and a local favourite "moules et frites" Whether, walking, cycling or driving this area, once described as the French Tuscany is a joy to explore with long quiet roads and rolling hills. Each village has its own church and mayor's office and there is a feeling of calm wherever you go. Yours to enjoy.

25% deposit at time of booking and the balance to be paid 8 weeks prior to the start of the holiday. A refundable security deposit of £500 will be taken as a separate payment.

Changeover Day:
The changeover day is Saturday. The house will be available from 4pm and must be vacated by 10am on the departure day.

Notes on prices:
A refundable deposit of £500 will be taken at the time of booking. Any breakages or damages will be taken from the deposit and the remainder returned within 10 days after the end of the rental. If the property and grounds are left in an exceptionally dirty/untidy condition extra cleaning charges will apply.
