We offer a deluxe 3 bedroom / 2 bathroom / 3 toilet apartment in Village Marina, Olhao, Eastern Algarve, next to the 5 star ‘Real Marina’ hotel (WIFI, spa and gym available). Our apartment looks out over the waterfront and marina and is only a few minutes’ walk from the old town, the famous fish/vegetable markets and the ferries out to the Islands of Armona, Culatra, and Farol, known for their miles of seemingly endless white sandy beaches. Situated only 16km east of Faro airport it is a very short drive to your holiday home. The spacious well-appointed accommodation is fitted out to an exceptionally high standard throughout, including DVD, satellite TV (English language channels), washing machine/dryer, dishwasher and central vacuming system. Enjoy lounging on the large west facing terrace while watching the sun go down over Faro. The roof-top pool area offers uninterrupted sunshine along with social and leisure spaces which enjoy amazing views of the Reserva Natural da Ria Formosa.

About Mr David and Mrs Glenys Bows

David and Glenys-We live in Dorset and have two grown up daughters; Lucy lives in Bristol with her boyfriend Lee and Clare owns her own home nearby. We love the Algarve and particularly the Olhao area. We still both work full-time and as you get older it is nice to know that you can when you like and get away from the cold English winter weather. We think of it as an investment for us and for our family.

We saw the site for the development in April 2008 and fell in love with the area and decided to buy. What we liked about it was that it was close to the town, the marina and an exciting boat ride out to the beautiful islands. Glenys: "I saw the area from an airplane the first time we went on holiday to the Algarve and fell in love with it's natural beauty."

What makes this apartment unique

We like the size of the apartment and the fact that you can lounge on the large terrace and enjoy watching the sun set over Faro-whilst enjoying a glass or two of wine. You can walk into the town within a few minutes and in the evening enjoy a gentle stroll along by the waterfront. We have chosen our quality furniture and fittings with care and hope that our guests enjoy them too!

Thank you - I have to say we had an absolutely fabulous holiday. Your apartment surpassed our expectations. It's finished to a very high standard, and very well equipped. It delivers all that it promises on the website and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. You seem to have thought of everything! We particularly appreciated the cool bags and chill blocks.

Olhao itself was a revelation. We ate in a different restaurant every night and didn't have one poor meal. Even my kids, who aren't big seafood lovers, came home converted to clams and prawns. The produce on sale in the markets and local bakeries was the best I have come across, and the locals couldn't have been more obliging.

It was one the most enjoyable holidays I have ever had, and I certainly hope to return to Olhao. Thank you again for the use of your apartment.

Notes on accommodation: We love our large light and airy apartment, where six adults easily feel comfortable and at ease. Apartment hot water and pool heating partly powered by solar energy from panels discretely situated on the roof. Pool heated most of the year. High chairs and cots are available on request. All windows, and balcony doors, are fitted with electrically operated security/blackout shutters. The apartment can be rented in the winter months. Air-conditioning and heating available however electricity is subject to a 'Reasonable Usage' clause is included in the terms and conditions when the inclusive amount is exceeded. Large car park adjacent to apartment block. Linen and towels are supplied along with pool towels. There is an electronic building entry system operated from within the apartment. Unfortunately we do not accept pets-but we would accept guide dogs. This is a strictly no smoking apartment. Outside: We have a large private 'L shaped' balcony which benefits from early afternoon and evening sun with panoramic views of the Ria Formosa. It is furnished with a terrace table and chairs for 6 plus an outdoor twin-seater sofa, all with cushions. The shared pool is located on a large decked area on the roof and is accessible to residents/guests via a lift or stairs to the fifth floor. The pool measures 4 metres x 7 metres (large enough for an adult to swim in) and has steps down into the shallow end which measures 0.7 metres deep and slopes gently down to a depth of 1.1 meters. There are plenty of sunbeds which you can use to watch your children splashing in the pool or to simply soak up the hot Algarve sunshine. There is a large car park adjacent to apartment block. Utility Room: Clothes dryer/airer, iron, ironing board, mops and buckets, dustpan and brushes. The utility room also houses the central hoovering system motor, flexible hose and attachments. A small amount of beach toys and equipment are also stored in here. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bathroom towels and bed linens supplied. Weekly cleaning plus towel/linen change. However, there can be a different service for longer stays, please contact the owners for details. Additional cleaning can be arranged on request. Pool towels supplied. Other: Large, airy and tastefully decorated hallway, with console table, which gives access to all rooms. The lounge/dining area leads out, through double sliding doors, onto a large 'L' shaped balcony complete with 6 place outside table and two seater sofa.

Really lovely

Great apartment, spacious and well equipped with lovely views over the Ria Formosa. We enjoyed walking the promenade and looking at the boats on the waterfront, the many cafes and restaurants and the little ferry to the islands with their lovely beaches.

Our manager Maria and her team are very particular with regards cleaning and we are always pleased when we have positive feedback. We agree the views from our apartment are amazing! Excellent property; well situated.

A well maintained, equipped property; spacious and modern. Situated by an easy walk along the promenade to many restaurants and cafes. Accessible for wheelchair users and in close proximity to water taxis to nearby islands. A most enjoyable stay, which we hope to repeat in the future.

Owner's Response: It is always good to hear that our holiday makers have enjoyed their stay. Unlike the west of the Algarve the seafront at Olhão is very flat and is therefore ideal for wheelchair users and for those who like to walk along the promenade without steps to negotiate. The apartment is close to the water with the nearby catamaran and the ferries are just a short stroll away-which enables our clients to explore the nearby beautiful and sandy islands. It is always a pleasure to hear from clients who have stayed with us before.

A fabulous accomodation

The apartment is fitted to a high standard whilst not losing that homely feeling. Set in a town that has a fascinating history and an excellent base to explore the wonders of the Rio de Formosa. There is something for everyone, with exception of those seeking late night clubs and music.

Owner's Response: We want our clients to feel at home when holidaying in our apartment and have made sure that the fittings too are of a high standard-we are pleased when it is appreciated by our clients. Olhão is a lovely place with a long history-and is still a working port where many local people work. We are happy that it has not become too commercialised. However, the town it is in the process of re-generation but it is being done in a tasteful way-we don't want it to change too much. You can pop on a boat or catamaran across to one of the beautiful islands during the daytime and there are many bars and restaurants along by the water where you can wander in the daytime or the evening-places that can be enjoyed by all of the family.

Thank you Glenys and Dave for a wonderful Easter break. Maria was very helpful letting us into the apartment, which was spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. Plus easy walking distance to the seafront restaurants and ferry to the island beaches, and watching flamingoes from the balcony at breakfast time - what more could we want?

Our apartment is a short walking distance to the sea front, restaurants etc., but far enough away to be in a fairly quiet area. To see the flamingos, and many other birds, whilst having breakfast is a joy and we have supplied a pair of binoculars to make this possible. An amazing apartment with everything you need for a home from home stay.

Apartment and all equipment was of a high standard and Glenys' contact with details of apartment was very helpful.

We have stayed at Marina residence many times before but this apartment has the best views from the pool.

Our apartment block does have fabulous views from the roof top and our apartment balcony is an ideal place to sit and watch the sun going down ant the end of a lovely day. We try and make our apartment as comfortable as possible and try to anticipate the holiday makers needs. We supply many items to make the holiday as relaxing as possible from providing pool towels to smaller thing such as cool bags and blocks for those necessary beach outings.

Olhao boasts some of the Algarve's most beautiful beaches just a short boat trip away. In high season the hotel catamaran service runs to the islands from opposite the hotel. Plus regular ferry crossings run from Olhao’s jetty-just 10 minute's walk from the apartments-to islands Culatra and Armona. The ’ilhas’ have a selection of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Olhao is a part of the Reserva Natural da Ria Formosa, an environmental and conservation area for birds and marine life.


Being only 15km from Faro Airport (around €25 in a taxi), car hire is not essential as everything is within easy walking distance. The closest supermarket is only a 10 minute walk away. If you are golfing, or would like to further explore the Algarve or even Spain, car hire is a must. The train station is within 15 minutes’ walk giving access to services both east to Villa Real de St Antonio and west to Lagos. We would also recommend you try the 'EVA' bus which is reliable, clean and quick.


Village Marina is approximately 15km from Faro, 5km from Fuseta, 20km from Tavira/Cabanas and approx. 30/40km to the more traditional resorts of the Western Algarve. Also worth visiting are neighbouring Fuseta, Tavira and Tavira Island, Cabanas to the east and Faro, Vilamoura, Portimao, Lagos and Cape St Vincent to the far west. The Spanish border is no more than 60km away to the east as you cross over the Rio Guadiana giving you a chance to travel to Seville in around 2½ hours.

Further Details:

The apartment is about a 10 minute walk to the nearest supermarket plus the veg and fish market is a five minute stroll; plus you can reach the town of Olhao, with its eclectic shops, cafes and bars in just a few minutes on foot.

The famous red brick, covered, fish and fruit and veg markets are definitely worth a visit (early morning is a must to get the best produce) and are only a 5 minute walk as are the amazing array of traditional bars and restaurants on the waterfront and in the Old Town. Continuing for another few minutes along the waterfront will take you to the ferry terminal where the taxi boats leave for the islands.

The local islands are a must to visit: Ilha da Culatra is surrounded by beautifully clear water, with many species of fish, so it is perfect for diving and snorkelling. Ilha do Farol is not a separate island, but the area at the western end of Culatra where the lighthouse is ('Farol' meaning 'lighthouse' in Portuguese) and again offers visitors a large expanse of sand and warm water.

This area is of immense interest to lovers of the natural world and bird watchers with its vast and diverse species of flora and fauna and natural features of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

There are many boat trips and eco tours of the Ria Formosa available from the various jetties along the waterfront. Armona is the busier of the islands; it has beaches and a few restaurants/bars. Around Farol the sea comes right up against the rocks creating a natural swimming pool at high tide (the average water temperature in summer is 24 degrees).
