The people are warm, friendly and extend a hospitality which is the essence of Ireland.
Clifden, a very popular tourist destination, is a small town conveniently located between mountain and sea, in the heart of Connemara. It has lots of attractions for young and old including scenery, fishing, golf, beaches, shopping and pubs.
Clifden Town is the Capital of Connemara one of the most scenic regions in Connemara. Established in the early 1800’s at Clifden Bay, it follows the classic 19th century layout: oval in plan, with three principal streets - Market Street, Main Street and Bridge Street, a Market Square, a courthouse and harbour.
Clifden today is a vibrant and cultural town which has retained its historic roots while developing in services and facilities. You will find colourful streets with a great selection of small local food shops – (fishmongers, butchers, fruit and vegetable store, delicatessens and a bakery), numerous craft and gift shops, art galleries and exhibitions and other interesting shops including antique shops, designer clothes shops, jewellery and vintage shops.
In between all of these you will find a great selection of Restaurants, Cafes and Pubs. Most pubs in Clifden serve food and have live music weekly. On the practical side there are three supermarkets (including Aldi and Lidl), two banks, two chemists, two petrol stations, two churches and a post office.
For many, the allure of Connemara is in the ever changing scenery, the magical light, walks on the beach, turf fires, the rugged landscape, wild life and flora, the sense of history or a plate of fresh oysters and a pint of Guinness by the fire singing along to a local music session. However, if you wish to plan some activities during your visit here are some suggestions…

Owners profile to follow.
We spent a week at Benbaun House and found the house to be absolutely perfect in every way. The facilities for the children were wonderful and the house was lovely. The house was clean and very well maintained, Clifden itself was a lovely town, the people were so kind and friendly. We had a lovely time at Humpty's, a very nice pub. I hope we will be able to return one day. The owner, Brendan, was lovely and so helpful. Thank you Brendan, everything was perfect.
WOW!! What a property. We were a party of 10 adults and 6 kids and the property couldn't have been more perfect. The owners had thought of everything. The house was immaculate inside and out with plenty of space for the kids to run around. The play area on the side was great which the kids loved with a great area at the rear for a BBQ. The rooms inside were very spacious and each with an en suite. There were bikes, wetsuits and bodyboards which the kids made use of. The town of Clifden was lovely and was a 5 minute walk away. Lots of great restaurants, pubs and shops. So, to sum it all up we had a brilliant week.....great location, great people and a great house. See you next time Brendan. Thanks ..... Rachael
