This fourth (top) floor apartment, is ideal all year round holiday accommodation. Lift access. Views to the mountains, village and sea. Quietly located at the end of the village with all local amenities nearby. Walk to the unspoilt, blue flag beach. La Marina is a Spanish working village although its coastal location invites visitors from all over Spain, UK & the rest of Northern Europe. There are Restaurants & Tapas Bars, Bakeries, Supermarket, Banks, Pharmacy & various other Shops. Within 5 kms there are several larger Spanish supermarkets (& an Iceland!). Buses stop on the main street with routes along the coast in both directions to Alicante, Guardamar, Torrevieja & Murcia & inland to Elche & surrounding villages. The beautiful unspoilt beaches, sand dunes & pine forest stretch for more than 20km from Santa Pola, continuing down to Guardamar marina & towards Orihuela Costa. Plan any trips with the help of the local tourist office in the village.

About the Owner

We are from the UK and lived in North Wales until we recently retired to Spain. We now live in the inland village of Daya Nueva which is about a fifteen minute drive from La Marina. We have had a long association with La Marina & the surrounding area & bought this apartment in 2010. My sister lives in San Miguel which is not far away & she usually looks after the place although we are also contactable if needed. We have tried to make the apartment comfortable and inviting, exactly what we would hope to find ourselves - home from home on the inside and a great location outside.

We first bought a property in La Marina in 1993 & spent many happy times visiting. However in 2006 we decided it was time for a change, sold up & spent a couple of years looking all along the coast of Spain & the Algarve for another place. Although we did find some nice locations we realised that the La Marina area, in our view, was hard to beat. The apartment is positioned in a Spanish village with great infrastructure whilst retaining real Spanish charm. There are miles of gorgeous unspoilt beaches, pine forests & sand dunes along the coast to explore. We have 2 local airports - Alicante 20 mins north & Murcia 40 mins south. Both airports are served by budget airlines with journey times from the UK no more than 2 &1/2 hrs. We enjoy a great climate with hot summers & mild winters.

Coast/Beach:

On a clear day, from the roof, you can see the Island of Tabarca, well worth a visit. Fortified as a prison camp in the 18th century & now home to a small fishing community, this & many other trips are found in the tourist office in the village. The walk to the beach takes from 10 to 25 mins depending on route, time of year and capability, to drive takes 3/4 mins. A beach bus runs July to Sep. There are amazing beaches, sand dunes, pine forest, stunning walks & scenery along the coast line.

Travel:

Alicante Airport is 20 minutes north, Murcia Airport 35 mins south. Car hire is not essential in the immediate vicinity however if you wish to explore further afield you may want to consider it. Hire cars can be collected at the airport from the usual companies or should you wish to have a car just for a few days then local hire is available in the village of La Marina.

Distances:

Alicante is the main city (32kms north), very cosmopolitan but still authentically Spanish, particularly in the old town which houses the Castle & many bars/restaurants. The port comes alive around 10pm with its trendy bars & exclusive restaurants. Guardamar is 9 kms south with its beautiful sand dune beaches, weekly market & lots of places to eat & drink. Guardamar has much to explore including their parks which are well worth a visit. Buses will take you to both these places from La Marina.

Further Details:

In the village there are several small bars offering traditional tapas & "one plate" meals. There are also restaurants offering full menus & a few interesting shops, also banks with ATMs. There is a store which sells English toiletries & a separate pharmacy with very helpful English speaking staff - if needed. A mobile phone shop, where English is also spoken. A wellness centre offering a host of well being services including massages, facials etc. Bakeries selling freshly baked bread, cake & confectionery. English newspapers are available. There is a supermarket which incorporates a butchers. Liz looks after the apartment & will meet you with the keys & show you around on your arrival. Liz lives near by & will be contactable during your stay should you have any questions or queries. She can also arrange to pick you up and return you to the airport if necessary. A walk from the village in the direction of Guardamar will take you to the camp site which is open to non-residents & boasts a large open air swimming pool & excellent bar/restaurant. Further afield there are a huge range of activities available: walking, shopping, scuba diving, pedalos, jet ski's, horse riding, 4x4, quads, go-carts, paintball, laser guns, hot air balloon rides, Water Parks, Theme Parks, Safari Parks, Zoo's, Fun Fairs, Championship Golf, Crazy Golf, Mud Baths, Thermal Water Spa's, Fresh Water Spa's, visits to Museums, Islands, Castles, Salt Lakes & more. Also buses to Alicante, Benidorm, Elche, Guardamar, Torrevieja, Murcia, Cartagena.

Booking Notes:
A £100 deposit will secure your booking (25% deposit will secure long lets of more than one month). The balance is due 6 weeks prior to your holiday. The key holder Liz will meet you & show you around the apartment. Payment of the €50 euros to cover cleaning & laundry plus any assistance you may need to ensure your stay is trouble free is required at this time. Travel insurance is recommended as no liability is accepted by owners in the event of injury, loss or damage.

Changeover Day:
Changeover days are flexible. The apartment will be available from 3pm on arrival day & we ask that you vacate by 12 noon on departure day. If the apartment is not let on the day of your arrival/departure then entry/exit times will be flexible.

Notes on prices:
Above prices for 2 people. £35 per week per additional person(s). A non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your booking. Balance is due 6 weeks before arrival. At key collection a €50 charge is payable to the key holder (Liz) for laundry & cleaning. Long lets available, 1 November to 31 March 2016/17 £400 per month. With reluctance & due to high increases, electricity is now charged at cost, excluding standing charges, via a meter with €1 & €2 coins.

We think the location of this apartment is one of its best points. Instead of being in a large development (urbanisation) its situation in the village of La Marina is virtually frontline. There are only fields, forest & agriculture between us and the sea. Also there are local Spanish owned bars, restaurants and shops. No big chain takeaways! However there are a couple of British run bars/restaurants. If you want a relaxing holiday and don't want to venture far then you have everything you need within walking distance. The urbanisation of La Marina is about 4kms up hill from the village and has many more eating/drinking opportunities and 2 large complexes with swimming pools. If you want to explore further, either by bus or car, there are numerous places to visit both coastal and inland.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: No Smoking. The apartment is most suitable for adults. All rooms have fans, mosquito blinds & hot/cold A/C in the living room. The hall, bedrooms & living room also have heating for the winter months when during the day the weather will usually be pleasant but the evenings can get cold. Outside: The balcony is sunny for most of the day & is equipped with table & chairs for al fresco dining or enjoying a drink whilst watching the world go by. There are also front and side awnings fitted for shade should you require it during the heat of the summer months. A large roof space suitable for sunbathing with chairs & parasol provided. The views from the roof are fantastic. Utility Room: There is a Washing machine & Airer in the kitchen & external washing lines on the roof. The terrace has a utility cupboard which contains mop, bucket, brushes, etc. There are also folding chairs & a parasol for use on the roof or at the beach. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The apartment will be thoroughly cleaned before you arrive with fresh towels and clean linen throughout. Other: Above the apartment, accessed by a short staircase is a large roof space with washing lines & plenty of room to enjoy the sun & great views of the sea & the mountains.
