About Mr and Mrs Lyne

Mick, Carol and Barney (springer spaniel) will be at home to welcome you when you arrive. We have lived at the Cottage for 18 years and have been running "The Stable" as a holiday-let for about 12 years. We are always available for help and advice and can often give "scenic" routes to places of interest. Our aim is for you to have an enjoyable holiday and to go home loving Dorset as much as we do.

Mr and Mrs Lyne purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Mr and Mrs Lyne chose Dorset

We purchased this property in 1998 after many years of searching. It offered us everything we were looking for, notably the location, the tranquility, the ease of access to all amenities whilst retaining the remoteness from the "hustle and bustle". We are situated on the edge of Winfrith Heath and surrounded by SSSI sites with an abundance of wildlife and flora, whilst still within close proximity of Dorset's famous World Heritage Jurassic coastline.

What makes this cottage unique

There are Dartford Warblers within yards of our garden and, in the relevant season, it is possible to sit in the garden and see, and listen to, Nightjars.

Very well equipped, comfortable and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The main purpose of our visit was to take a break from our busy lives and chill out. This is the perfect cottage for that. It is very well equipped, close to lots of places worth visiting and all helped by Mick and Carol's warm welcome, expert advice and guidance.

The well maintained garden is a delight, with lots of visiting birds to watch on the lawn and on the nut feeders.

It's worth noting that the cottage is in a wi-fi "not spot". This was great for us as we were having a phone and internet-free week but there is phone signal just a few metres walk up the path and wi-fi connection can be obtained from the owners' house, if you need it.

We loved our stay and I'm sure we'll be returning next year.

Owner's Response: Thank you both so much for your kind comments. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and that the lack of Internet did not affect your break. We always say that being in Dorset is like going back a hundred years and I'm afraid poor signal is the price we have to pay but, as you say, there are ways around this problem if needed. We very much hope that we will see you again sometime.

Great week

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little cottage. Very clean and ample space for the three of us. Set in the gardens of a beautiful thatched cottage

Welcoming cake and cookies on arrival - lovely gesture

Owners are very knowledgeable about the area and are on hand if needed to help with local info.

Altogether we had a lovely week, very busy as there is so much to do in the area.

We opted to have a gadget free week so the wifi wasn't an issue for us!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind comments. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. The lack of "signal" here can prove a problem sometimes but it's nice to know that the tranquility of the Stable overrides this.

Cosy and clean

  • 5 of 5

What a delight The Stable turned out to be. Hosts Mike and Carol were welcoming, knowledgable yet unobtrusive making us feel like friends from the start. The cottage feels more like a home than a self-catering unit, warm and comfortable with beautifully clean en suites. Having lived in a rural area we recognise the difficulties of getting dependable wi-fi but this was easily overcome by the welcome offer to use the conservatory at the main house for a connection. A most pleasurable stay. Would highly recommend a stay here as there are plenty of places of interest easily accessible in the area.

Good Base for exploring area.

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable accomodation with easy parking. Owners were very friendly and helpful. One drawback was the lack of usable WIFI. Since I need access for my business, I always choose a place which specifies WIFI, as your description does, but no working access actually exists. I believe that specification should omit this facility since it is misleading to anyone needing it.

Owner's Response: We are sorry you had a problem obtaining internet access but as we say in our advertisement/webpage the signal is very "hit and miss" but can usually be found somewhere in the grounds and we also offer our Sunroom connection for those who cannot be without Internet access. Unfortunately, our Rural position (unlike Urban areas) is not yet considered important enough to warrant high speed broadband connection. We consider this a small price to pay for living in this beautiful area.

A lovely cottage, very well equipped together with very helpful owners. The location is very handy for getting to so many great places. The cottage itself was lovely, set in a beautiful quiet garden. We loved it here and we look forward to our next visit.
