About the Owner

Mick, Carol will be at home to welcome you when you arrive. We have lived at the Cottage for 16 years and have been running "The Stable" as a holiday-let for about 10 years. We are always available for help and advice and can often give "scenic" routes to places of interest. Our aim is for you to have an enjoyable holiday and to go home loving Dorset as much as we do.

M & A.S Wales. Fantastic! Thank you Carol & Mick-oh! also buster. What a fabulous weeks' holiday. Could not, did not, expect to be so well looked after in such a friendly way. Put at ease straight away. Lovely welcome touches on our arrival (5 star cakes)etc. Once again, many thanks.

Mick and Carol you are doing a great job. Many thanks for your hospitality. We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending the Stable as a great place to stay.

Just lovely!!

  • 5 of 5

Have just returned from a week at The Stables with my two teenage children and we loved every minute.

Firstly, the location is perfect for exploring Dorset. Monkey World and the Tank Museum as well as Lulworth Cove are only 10 or 15 minutes drive. Secondly, the cottage is immaculate and very homely. I cooked most nights and had everything I needed. Finally, Mick and Carol could not be nicer or more helpful. We were greeted with delicious homemade cake and the local knowledge was really helpful.

I would thoroughly recommend Dorset too. Durdle Door is breathtaking and we spent hours at Charmouth and Lyme Regis hunting for fossils. Monkey World and Abbotsbury Swannery and Gardens are well worth the money too. My tips to new visitors to the area would be to take a big bag of pound coins for parking. It is quite pricey- £4 for 2 hours is standard- and no change is available anywhere. Also cash points are in short supply so stock up when you get the chance. Most places take cards but by no means all. A good map is useful as this is the land that GPS forgot. Sturdy shoes for walking up and down steep slopes are essential. And don't get too near cliffs. A huge chunk collapsed at Charmouth minutes after we had walked past. Stick to the shoreline and you'll be fine.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind comments. We do try to make it a "home from home" and, of course, the glorious county of Dorset nearly always works it's magic.

Just lovely!!

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week with my two teenage children and we loved The Stables. Firstly, the location is perfect to explore beautiful Dorset. Monkey World and the Tank Museum are just down the road and it's about 10 minutes to Durdle Door. Secondly, the little cottage is gorgeous. It is immaculately clean and more like being allowed to house sit in someone's lovely home than a cold, impersonal rental. We self-catered and I had everything I needed to prepare and cook meals. Finally, Mick and Carol could not be nicer or more welcoming. We had lovely homemade cake to greet us on arrival and they were so kind and helpful with local knowledge and tips.

Comparing with friends who have been away in the UK this summer I think we landed on our feet here. The cottage is very good value in a prime holiday area and really a home from home.

I would thoroughly recommend Dorset. It is stunningly beautiful. Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and the area north of Swanage around Shell Beach as well as Monkey World and Abbotsbury Swannery and Gardens stand out but there are countless villages that look like Grimm's fairytales brought to life. Just take a big bag of pound coins and loose change for the parking. £4 for 2 hours is standard at the scenic locations and no change is given anywhere.

Best Self Catering Ever

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a warm welcome from Carol and Mick and two types of delicious cake. The cottage is warm and extremely well equipped- we had a very comfortable stay. When I commented on the fact that I hadn't needed to bring washing up liquid, condiments, oil etc Carol said she had put in everything she felt she needed if she went away and she certainly had. We did self cater but would highly recommend the pub "The Countryman" for food a short walk away.

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

You will not meet nicer people than Carol and Mick. And what a lovely place to stay! The garden is beautiful and the home is comfortable and cozy and there was cake waiting for us when we arrived. There is lots to see and do in the area and Carol and Mick had some good ideas on places to see as well. There's even a pub within walking distance!

fabulous country retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Superbly equipped property in a stunning rural location. What a warm welcome from owners, Carol and Mick. The Stables is maintained to a high standard and the large garden with plenty of seating makes a delightful setting to eat outdoors whilst watching the birds. We even saw two varieties of woodpecker. Plenty of places of interest to visit and excellent walking country.

Magnificent holiday

  • 5 of 5

Wow - what a place to stay. The owners were wonderful and couldn't do anything more. They can turn their hands to anything from changing tyres to baking carrot cake for my husband!!! The stable is welcoming and cosy and had everything in -a home away from home. The location to explore the Dorset countryside and coastline is brilliant - no where was to far away. Can't wait to go back again soon x

Location

From the Owner

We purchased this property in 1998 after many years of searching. It offered us everything we were looking for, notably the location, the tranquility, the ease of access to all amenities whilst retaining the remoteness from the "hustle and bustle". We are situated on the edge of Winfrith Heath and surrounded by SSSI sites with an abundance of wildlife and flora, whilst still within close proximity of Dorset's famous World Heritage Jurassic coastline.
