Overview

Property

Updated: 23-Nov-2016
Victorian House in Whitby, North Yorkshire Coast, England - 2 Minutes To Seafront, 4 Minutes To Town Centre Yet In A Quiet Stately Street

A superb Victorian mid-terraced property, centrally situated in historic Whitby. This outstanding Whitby cottage has been beautifully renovated, retaining a wealth of period features, with marble and cast iron fireplaces, ornate ceiling roses, and stripped pine floors and window shutters. The bright, spacious rooms are luxuriously furnished, providing two very comfortable sitting rooms, one with an open fire, and a very special dining room. There is also a well-equipped kitchen with granite work tops and range cooker. Set over five floors, the quirky layout of this Whitby cottage offers excellent family accommodation, with plenty of space for everyone. Outside, a small front garden provides a sunny area to sit and relax, with views over to the famous abbey and St. Mary's church. Within five minutes’ walk from this Whitby cottage are good eateries, local pubs and independent shops. A great place for family and friends all year round.

About the Owner

We are Anna and Nigel. We have had previous jobs and small businesses and have always enjoyed property projects. We bought this property in 2010 because it's character had not been lost. We love the fact that it still has a functioning servants bell-pull system (sorry we can't provide servants!), window shutters, original fireplaces etc. What it didn't have was modern luxuries like central heating, multiple bathrooms with powerful showers, and a modern well equipped kitchen. Well, it does now. With the help of a group of friendly and competent local tradesmen we enjoyed a half year helping it to blossom according to how our taste.

Others who have stayed there seem to have similar taste, which gives us great pleasure. We wonder if you would like it too?

Guestbook comments from the owner

I had to let you know what a fantastic time we had, this property is superb, it's cosy yet roomy even with the house full to capacity. So warm for February, and we didn't even light a fire. The kitchen is equipped to a very high standard. Loved the huge dinning table, and 2 lounges (mens & womens when football was on!!) The showers were of full force and large, even with 18 people showering after each other, and the location was fantastic - easy reach of shops, pub, café's, chip shops and restaurants, including beach, cinema and sports centre. So much thought has gone into this property, and the owners should be very proud of themselves. I can honestly say that this was the best self catering holiday I have had in 25 years of visiting holiday houses. Thank you so much for the efficient service.

Mrs Tooze, Amlwch, February 2011. It was everything we wanted it to be and more. Beautifully furnished, well equipped kitchen and excellent bath/shower rooms. Loads of room. Mrs Sugget, Leeds.

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

The house was fabulous for our party and catered for every need - from10 year old to 70 year old. There was nothing we needed that wasn't available. Really enjoyed getting snuggled up in the living room with a roaring fire. The dining room was great so everyone could eat together which was what I wanted for the party atmosphere and the kitchen was ideal for cooking for a large number of people. Would recommend the property for anyone wanting to get a large group together but you have to be mobile as there are a lot of stairs. These helped us to work off the excesses of the weekend!! Had a great time and will definitely try to return for the next big family gathering.

Superb House in Whitby

  • 5 of 5

I booked this house in Whitby for myself and 15 friends to celebrate my 40th Birthday. The house was amazing, beautifully decorated and suited our needs perfectly. It was ideally located, had everything we needed and more. The kitchen was well stocked and the dining room seated 18 comfortably. The lounges & bedrooms were very spacious, warm and comfortable. The christmas decorations added a lovely festive touch, we especially liked the festive reindeer! Everyone commented on how nice the house was and we were amazed by it's size. The owners were efficient, friendly and replied to emails promptly. We would definitely like to return in the future & I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a place to stay in Whitby with a large group.

A wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed as a family, my brothers, sisters and their children, 18 in all. The house was immaculately turned out and extremely comfortable and spacious. There was plenty of room for each family unit to have their own space, although by the end of the week the kids had pretty much taken over the basement! The kitchen was well stocked and the showers were all reported to be awesome. The owner was always very polite and helpful in the run up to our stay, providing us with parking permits and clear directions and returned our deposit without delay. Halloween in Whitby was awesome, I have never seen such amazingly turned out goths in my life! We really enjoyed fossil hunting around the coast and at night we enjoyed sitting outside at 'The Pier', a pub near the fish market. We also saw the most upsetting street performer ever,(which we had to drag the fascinated children away from), who's idea of entertainment was to stick hyperdermic needles into his face!!! We all fell in love with Whitby and will definitely be back.
