Rural Gite in Brantome, Aquitaine / Dordogne, France - Peaceful, Rural Location For Walking,cycling And Birdwatching Yet With Easy Access To Brantome

Lannet has a large open plan layout on the ground floor with the huge traditional fireplace, which augments the central heating in the winter. It has a large, secluded, fenced garden to the rear and some 9 acres of woodland and meadows. The gardens are carefully tended by the owners, who live next door, large lawned areas provide space and mature trees offer shade when needed.Apple & pear trees provide fruit in season and herbs & vegetables are often available from the vegetable garden. The local area is famous for wildflowers, especially orchids, birds and butterflies. Brantome with its cafes, bars, restaurants and shops is only 10 minutes away or you can enjoy canoeing or a boat trip here as well. The area has many Chateaux and world famous caves with pre-historic paintings.

About Jon Price

Having worked many years in the tourist business with a pub/restaurant in Devon and then a holiday cottage caretaking business in Cornwall, Sally and I moved here in 2010. We have two dogs and a cat and we all enjoy the space and tranquility of the countryside here. We are keen gardeners and naturalists, I'm an entomolgist/botanist by training and this is a wonderful area for moths,butterflies,orchids and of course birds.We are always on hand to offer advice to our guests on places to visit or to dine and enjoy sharing our knowledge of the area and it's residents.

We love living here and wish to share this with our guests, hopefully they will fall in love with it too, it's hard not to!

Why Jon Price chose La Chapelle-Montmoreau

We fell in love with Brantome on our first visit and from then on this area was definitely where we wanted to be. We have space,open skies with amazing sunsets and starry nights, the peace and quiet of the countryside is wonderful.Our house and gite have an ideal mix of history,the fireplace in the gite is 16th century,and modern comforts.

Our garden is large with space for all, lawned areas for badminton,ball games and also flower beds for colour all year round. The colours in autumn, late October to November are fantastic with maples,wild cherry and chestnuts in abundance.

We have all this countryside and yet are only 12kms from both Brantome and Nontron for shops and restaurants.

We never tire of our surroundings and enjoy sharing them with our guests.

What makes this cottage unique

This region has everything,peace and quiet & yet two towns within easy reach.

Our garden,with sunny lawns, shady places, large pool with sitting out area, a BBQ & dining area is an ideal place to spend time relaxing. Herbs & fresh fruit & vegetables are available from the vegetable patch.

From the front door there are miles of walks, all well signed,through the woods & fields or you can just wander the forest tracks.We have local maps & guides to help you decide where to go & bicycles available if you want to go a bit further!

We have a wide selection of wildlife books & guides,in english & french!

Both of us enjoy browsing our local markets & brocantes,of which there are plenty. We also enjoy visiting the local vineyards & again can point our visitors in the right direction!

Notes on accommodation: Prices include gas, electricity, water & tourist taxes. There are no hidden extra costs. Firewood is provided for the open fire for the chillier periods, central heating is included during the winter. Lannet is a non-smoking property. All bedrooms have ample storage & hanging space & are supplied with fans. There is an extra fridge in the cave for the storage of drinks if needed. Outside: The rear balcony has a table with seating for six with wonderful views over the garden, adjoining fields & woods. From here you can enjoy your breakfast and watch the roe deer having theirs! There are steps down into the large, secluded, fenced garden, which is surrounded by fields & woods. Large lawned areas provide plenty of space for the BBQ & outside furniture with an additional table with seating for six, the 9m x 4m pool has an alarm & sunloungers for six, mature trees provide welcome shade & the flower beds provide colour. There are seats to enjoy the shade with a good book and a glass of local wine. You can wander along our own meadow & woodland trail to enjoy the birdsong, butterflies & orchids. There is plenty of space for games, a garden badminton set is provided. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The gite is cleaned before your arrival & you are asked to leave it clean & tidy on departure. Bed linen is provided & will be changed weekly. All towels, including pool towels,tea-towels & cleaning materials are provided along with our own welcome pack.

Relaxed, rural gite with lovely garden.

Ideal for a laid back holiday; especially if you have a dog. Very friendly owners on the same site, sharing the garden. Interesting small local towns with markets and grottes and an underground church provide respite if the weather is very very hot. Not for those who like the bright lights!

a great holiday

We had a wonderful holiday, the give was clean and well prepared and the welcome was very warm and friendly. Jon and Sally make you feel very much at home. It is a lovely place to stay and particularly so if you like walks, cycling and countryside and certainly if you have a dog.

There is lots to do within easy travelling distance and Brantome is close by with a number of lovely restaurants.

We would recommend a stay and will hopefully be back

Maison Lannet

We had a fabulous week here. The gite is in the most beautiful setting with a large garden surrounded by fields and woods with some lovely walks from the door. The gite itself is very well equipped and the pool is large and clean. The owners were lovely (delivering a gorgeous quiche to us after our very long drive) and provided lots of information on things to do in the area. My son really enjoyed playing with their dog who was very friendly and was an asset to our enjoyment.

There's lots to do in the area such as canoeing, visiting chateau, cycling etc, but if the weather is good nothing would be nicer than relaxing by the pool.

The Gite

A fantastic experience from the date of arrival to the departure date. Jon and Sally were excellent hosts and their local knowledge was invaluable. The Gite, grounds and walks were excellent and the family thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquillity.

Location

Coast/Beach:

There are three leisure lakes in the area, St Estephe, Le Grand Lac & St Mathieu all have bars & restaurants, picnic areas & plenty of parking.

Travel:

By air to Bordeaux, Bergerac, Limoges, or Brive.

The Channel coast (Calais) is about 8 hours by car further to the west try Brittany Ferries, special terms available.

Distances:

Located midway between Brantome & Nontron both about 10km away, Lannet gives easy access to restaurants, cafes, shops, markets & supermarkets. Water sports, tennis, fishing, cycling, canoeing are all available nearby. Several fine Chateaux are within an easy drive as are world famous caves with many pre-historic cave paintings.

Further Details:

Brantome, 10km to the south, is a delighful medieval town with an ancient Abbey founded by Charlemagne(742-814) With it's soaring campanile this is one of the most elegant medieval & Renaissance buildings in the Dordogne, complete with caves used by the monks as kitchens & cellars.

About 10km downstream is Bourdeilles where there are two Chateaux of different periods built on a fortified hill, a Medieval fortress(13th-14th century) & a Renaissance Palace(16th) with a wonderful collection of furniture.

Chateau de Puyguilhem in the village of the same name is an easy drive away. It is a fascinating structure way out in the woods, a Renaissance masterpiece that fell into disrepair it was restored after WW2 & contains some superb Aubasson tapestries & fine furniture.

The famous Grotte de Villars is a twenty minute drive away.Discovered in 1953 over 13kms of underground chambers have so far been discovered with cathedral like caverns & cave paintings.

Brantome has a variety of restaurants and cafes,banks,shops and a supermarket.Many of the restaurants offer open air dining.

Nontron has two larger supermarkets and a variety of shops as well as being the home of the famous "Nontron knife" which you can see being made.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
