About Hilary Maher

We are an Irish Couple with 3 grown up children living in England. We have been coming to this beautiful area for over 35 years. The closeness to the Sea and the Magnificent Views from our Villa are some of the reason we enjoy the area so much.

This is a beautifully furnished villa. A home away from home with all the little luxuries you would have at home, 50 inch plasma tv, American fridge freezer with filtered water and ice machine, TV's in all the bedrooms, Dishwasher, DVD, Music Stereo, Juicer, Coffee machine, Pool Table etc, etc.

We are sure anyone staying here will feel as relaxed and at home as we do.

Hilary Maher purchased this villa in 1980

Why Hilary Maher chose Costa del Sol (Cadiz Province)

Wonderful location in a magnificent villa with stunning views

We stayed for a week in Feb 2017 wasn't long enough!

Plenty of room in the Villa, lots of time spent at the pool bar and by the pool.

The men went in the pool, once they were used to the water they were ok!

Owners manual was good we had a few drives out, would recommend you get a hire car, went to a few other ports that were good for food however Sotogrande was only a walk away so when we all wanted a drink we went there.

The supermarket in the village was ok for daily things but we drove to Lidl (about 10min) to get the big shop for the week.

Sun was out till around 7pm, temp drops at night but we just put the heating on for 10 min and were fine, the heat seemed to stay in the house.

There was an outdoor pool table and table tennis we used after thee sun went down or on the couple of days the weather wasn't great. (If the sun wasn't coming out we just went for a drive, plenty to see) . The Sky TV also helped as the lad could watch the rugby / footy.

The tapas bars were great in the village was a case of not enough time to eat at them all but we tried.

The owner was great & responsive on emails, also the Caretakers were great for directions, we also checked in at 9am as we had early flights so thanks again, hope to be back soon.

Stunning! great week, surprisingly good weather, lots to do, plenty to see

  • 5 of 5

We booked last minute thanks to some cheap flights into Gibraltar, taxi to villa was £20, the owner let us check in early at 11am which was a great help!

We have a 4 month old so the house all being on the same level was great for the buggy! Plus Hilary who we spoke to a few times while booking provided a high chair, Cot and some other bits for the baby to save us needing an extra case!

The villa is great, loads of room, absolutely stunning views over the med and Gibraltar, we had Sky TV and a internet box for BBC / ITV... so when the sun went in we had plenty to watch, also watched a few DVDs that were there.

We spent loads of time by the pool and the bar area was great, we had some friends over so was great to host, we didn't have the pool heated but it was ok for Adults (mainly after a couple of cocktails) The Kitchen area / Fridge... were very useful and we had a BBQ one of the days.

We had the owners guide before we arrived which helped us sort our week out (Hilary sent us some info when we booked) my husband played golf, while me and my son went to the market. We had a few day trips, a car isn't necessary as most things are a short walk (Shop's, Port, Restaurants...) however we got a cheap one for a few days and went to Rhonda / Marbella to see the posh people / Gibraltar to see the Monkeys and to Estepona which had even more restaurants and My husband went on a fishing trip for a few hours.

Anyway back to the snow and Baltic temperatures now but will likely go back again next year when my son is old enough to enjoy it! We are looking to go back this summer as the pergola at the pool would be great to keep the boy out of the sun! Lets hope there are some cheap flights.

PS the Tapas bars (all 4 of them) are great and so cheap we will miss them!

thanks

Spacious villa with beautiful pool area and magnificent views

  • 5 of 5

The villa was perfect for our family holiday of 3 generations which included children and grandparents. The pool area was the outstanding feature with a large pool which was cleaned regularly for us. The covered outdoor lounge area with lovely rattan furniture and large dining area meant that we spent very little time in the villa during the day, and the poolside bar with fridge was a big hit with the adults! We also liked that the pool was a short walk through the pretty garden from the villa, with wall and gate with latch, making it safe for the children to be in the garden without us worrying about them going in the pool.

The villa itself is very clean and has very generous sized rooms and the 3 bathrooms meant that there was never any waiting around, and there was always hot water. The lounge has magnificent views through the panoramic window to Gibraltar and North Africa and the large sofas and armchairs make it a very sociable room with space for everyone. The kitchen is very well equipped with modern appliances, including American fridge freezer, range cooker, microwave and washing machine. We cooked a number of meals at the villa and found everything we needed, including lovely plates, bowls, glasses etc for dining outside.

The caretakers live in the accommodation below the main villa and are always on hand to help you if you need it, without getting in your way at all. We also found the owners very helpful both before and during our stay.

The location was great - we went to the local beach and restaurants, and 5 minutes drive away is the up-market port of Sotogrande with lovely shops, restaurants and bars. As we hired a car, we also visited Gibraltar, Estepona, Puerto Banus and Marbella, before enjoying going back to the peace and quiet of the villa! A great choice for a relaxing family holiday.

Wonderful villa in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a lovely 9 days at this villa. Hilary and her daughter are very helpful in the organisation and provided all the required details. The villa is beautifully spacious and has a lovely pool in the well tended garden. There is a lovely shaded terrace for dining and a welcome pool table which entertained us late into the evening. There is a very modern kitchen and the ice water dispensing fridge is most welcome. Each bedroom has air conditioning although the villa is actually sufficiently airy anyway. The poolside area is very spacious with a lovely shaded bar and fridge as well as a dining table. It was lovely to sit by the pool most of the day and there is ample shade coupled with a cooling breeze. Views to Gibraltar and North Africa are really splendid as the villa is at the top of the hill above Torreguadiaro. Supermarkets and restaurants abound locally and are of great quality. Wifi and Sky TV make it great for kids in the evening. We would not hesitate to recommend Los Arcos and hope to go back again next year.

Relaxing, fully equipped holiday home

  • 5 of 5

This is the third property we have rented through OwnersDirect and it did not disappoint. The house has all you need and probably more. As commented on by others, the filtered cool water from the American style fridge is great and saves you tramping to the supermarket to get water all the time. There is wifi both inside and out by the pool, so our three teenagers could satisfy their need to connect: it was pretty reliable although the router did require a reboot a couple of times. The pool gets the sun all day long: pool temp was 28-29C everyday. There is a real feeling of privacy out by the pool as there is no one overlooking without feeling hemmed in as the Med and coast of Africa are plain to see. There are fridges by the pool/bar so you can store beer/meat or whatever for your BBQ without the need to keep going back into the house. There is ample lighting next to the pool so you can sit out at night if you wish. In other holidays in Spain and Portugal we have had problems with insect bites etc. We had none of that at Los Arcos. You can watch the resident birds swooping and there are many Monk Parakeets to be seen. We easily walked to the village and Sotogrande in the evening for meals and only used the car a few times, but the hill may be too steep for some especially in the heat of the day. Andrea, her husband and son were very discreet, you would hardly know they were there. The air conditioning was really great in the house, however the house does remain cool without it, even when temperatures were reaching 37-38C. We flew to Gibraltar which is ~20mins drive away hiring a car on the Spanish side. Pain free, easy drive. All in you will have a relaxing holiday at this property.

Just wanted to let you and Hilary know what a wonderful time we had at Los Arcos. The villa was perfect for our family's needs. The villa is really well equipped, the pool was amazing and the location magnificent. It was great to be able to walk to the beach and have access to a variety of bars and restaurants.
