House in Haverigg, Nr. Millom, Cumbria, England - Peaceful Location, Less than a 5 Minutes Walk To Sand Dunes, Beach And The Cumbrian Coastal Way


End Terrace house on a quiet cul-de-sac in central village location. 3 to 4 minutes walk from beach, open aspect with views to Blackcombe. Front and back yards and separate private garden, off road parking at side of house. Dogs Welcome at an additional charge. The house is situated on a quiet road with no through traffic, but access via footpath to the beach and sand dunes. Located in the centre of Haverigg (once a small fishing village) there is a Post Office selling fishing supplies and ATM, General Store for fresh produce, two pubs one serving bar meals, and award winning fish and chip shop. Excellent public transport links leading along west coast of Cumbria.

A generous and well-equipped house which provided a very peaceful base to explore the area.

Several days worth of good and varied walking from the front door. Stride out of the front door and find fascinating coastal walks in the immediate vicinity or jump in the car and within a matter of minutes you are in challenging and picturesque locality. Catch the bus to Barrow in Furness and enjoy a "tour" of the surrounding countryside. However, note that there is no public transport from Haverigg at the weekends.

The house was exceptionally well-equipped, clean, warm and inviting. The owner had thoughtfully provided a welcome pack, including bread, eggs and a home-baked cake. The message board and box of leaflets gave plenty of information about the area and how to contact the owners if necessary. Booking information was clear and the owners responded quickly to a request for additional information about local transport. The garden was being "refreshed" after the winter but, even so, we found raspberries and roses.

We are very happy to recommend this property to others.

Lovely holiday home a haven for relaxation

Arriving at the house we were please to find a welcome tray with quite possibly the most delicious homemade cake we have ever tasted! The house itself was really clean and had everything we could have wanted. Locals were exceptionally friendly and my husband could have set up camp outside the local fish and chip shop for the "smoky" alone. This is a haven for dog walkers and indeed walkers in general. The beach is a short walk from the door and is enjoyable at any time of day and in any weather. We found the market town of Ulverston to be a real treat (around 17 miles away-ish) and Millom is perfect for grabbing groceries and a little wander. All in all the holiday was very peaceful and I would recommend Helen's house if you are looking for a relaxing break away. If you are taking your dogs with you please be responsible and ensure that you always clean up after them. We found that not everyone was and tended to leave the mess on the sand dunes and in the overgrowth. As dog owners ourselves we felt privileged to walk them on the beach anywhere at any time as it is such a rarity these days but it is unfortunate that the few irresponsible owners will ruin it for the rest of us visiting the area and living there!

lovely quiet location

lovely large well equipped house in a quiet location. Welcome pack very much appreciated. and owner very helpful. The area is ideal for walkers, cyclists, dog owners, horse riders etc. Had a lovely relaxing week unlimited walking for dogs who are allowed on the beach all year.

Some unique small villages nearby. Horse riding on beach less than 10 minutes away.

our favourite 2nd home

We always feel at home as soon as we arrive at the cottage, and our dogs love the spacious living room that has plenty of room for their big beds. The welcome goodies from Helen are always very tasty along with some milk, tea and coffee for your first drink after a long trip it's always appreciated. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking meals with plenty of storage room for our own food as well as the dogs' stuff.

We always sleep well there as its a quiet cul de sac. There are hours of walking along the beach, which is only a 2 min walk from the cottage, and its a very dog friendly place.

There are lots of places of interest to visit and the fells are only a 10 min drive away and they are stunning with beautiful views around every corner.

I always like to visit The Beauty Room at The Green as Tracy is an excellent therapist, followed by a trip to Bootle tea rooms. We have stayed at the cottage for long weekends and for 1-week holidays and we always enjoy our stay and we look forward to returning asap.

The dunes and beach of Haverigg are accessible from the road that the house is on, you can be on the sand in about 4 minutes. This beach is a site of scientific interest with the Natterjack toads being one of the many species looked after. This is also part of the Cumbrian Coastal Way.


The use of a car is recommended, but definitely not essential, as bus and train service around the area are quite efficient.


Within one hour, you can be in Coniston, Ambleside, Windermere, Bowness, Barrow-in-Furness and Hawkshead. More locally there are such places as Ravenglass, Muncaster, Broghton-in-Furness and Millom.

Further Details:

Haverigg itself, offers a diverse and wide range of activities from walks around active quarries, through to water sports and bird watching on our 200 acre freshwater lake, take skiing/wake boarding lessons, or simply relax on our long golden sands. Other activities in the area are heavy horse trekking, a gallop down Silecroft beach, fell walking, climbing, sailing or mountain biking.

Booking Notes:
To make a reservation please get in touch by email or telephone giving your name, address, contact number. We will then send out a booking form which must be returned withing ten days along with a none refundable deposit of one third of the rental cost, balance to be paid six weeks prior to arrival. Bookings taken within four weeks of arrival must be payed in full. If bookings are cancelled after the balance is paid, refunds are at the discretion of the owner. Holiday insurance recommended.

Changeover Day:
Weekly bookings Friday to Friday. Arrival after 3pm and departure by 10am. Short breaks available, please contact owner for availability.

  • Notes on accommodation: Although the house only has two bedrooms, the room sizes are very generous. Outside: To the front and rear of the property are yards. Behind the property is a large (secret) garden which has patio area with garden furniture. Utility Room: Fridge freezer, washing machine, microwave and dishwasher and yet more storage. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bedlinen are provided. Please bring your own beach towels. The property is cleaned before and after your stay. We ask our guests to leave the property how they find it and place all dirty laundry in bag provided. Other: Porches: small front porch, and large porch to rear suitable for storing outdoor gear.
