Guestbook comments from the owner

We so loved the house and our whole Italian experience. The leisurely dinners where the five of us sat outside and talked for extended periods of time was completely worth the trip! You have found gems in the whole staff. Everyone was so nice and helpful! And that pool!!! It is to die for!! Absolutely loved it!! We were in it every day!!

Thank you again for opening up your home to us and being so gracious!! … It was amazing!

Beautiful house, pool view! Best vacation ever ! We really had a wonderful time – Thanks ! Louann - Texas

Off to one of the restaurants recommended in your guide book this evening… Might do a festa towards the end of the week. We're all having a great time and the place is just beautiful! We had the pizza experience last night which was lots of fun… Luke wrote later:

Back now thank you, and sad to not be waking up to the view of the mountains! Everything about the trip was brilliant and we all had such a great time - thank you so much. Luke - London

We can't thank you enough for truly one of the best vacations we have ever taken. We love staying at La Collina del sole....truly paradise. Your team rolled out the red carpet for us and made us feel like we are family. We especially love taking full advantage of all the food services! Making authentic Italian pizza outside was a blast! We loved all the food that your team prepared for us...outstanding! We hope to come back to your spectacular villa again! - Rebecca and Tod

Enjoyed being “Home” again and look forward to our return in the not too distant future, Thank you for taking such good care of us. Our memories are still fresh though, and I can clearly imagine lying by the pool, eating in the spectacular outdoor dining terrace, hiking the trails in the area....

We had another SPECTACULAR holiday at your lovely villa. The chocolate torta was delicious. I wish I could speak Italian, Mario brought us porcini and chanterelle mushrooms one morning. We had the chanterelles for breakfast and then cooked a nice thick steak for dinner and served the porcini as a side. They were AMAZING. In Lucca we rode bikes on the wall and did a visit to Barga for the afternoon. Back at work now but we are planning our next trip to Italy (again).

Hugs from a very relaxed group at La Collina! - Natascha & Diane

We enjoyed ourselves hugely in your beautiful house. Could you please say a big thank-you to the cooks and the translator who made pizza with our children? Our youngest was over the moon with his rabbit and finally (at the age of nearly two) managed to sleep through the night every day of the holiday. We're all agreed that we would love to visit again! - Ian & Nina

Stunning property in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

La Collina Del Sole is a stunning house in a stunning location. The house is beautifully furnished and very well equipped. The local team who prepare and maintain the property could not be more helpful, with lovely touches such as homemade lasagna and cake on arrival and biscuits in each bedroom. The infinity pool is spectacular, with a view that you could never tire of. We swam in it every day. Andrew and Chrissie provide a wealth of information to help with your stay. The pizza experience is a must. We have a wonderful week at La Collina and would not hesitate to return.

The property and surroundings are pure Tuscany! Mountainous Tuscany!

While a bit of an adventure to get to it is absolutely worth it! Gessica, her daughter and mother prepared three fantastic meals after long days touring that were 4-5 star! Everything fresh from their garden and wonderful people! Best views!

Face to face with perfection

  • 5 of 5

We had a week with our 3 boys and girlfriends, a total of 8 staying. The location of the villa, a former farmhouse, is perfect as it is high enough on the Serchio river steep valley that you get a late sunset and outstanding views of sorroundings, it is also secluded from nearby villages so that it is extremely quiet; so quiet that the noise of the road at the bottom of the valley is barely audible.

The house fittings are comprehensive so you have all necessary equipments in the kitchen to cook whatever you fancy. Rooms aren't enormous but are very comfortable and beds even more so.

We were there at the end of a heatwave as such we didn't us much the inside of the house but just made the most of its outside. The swimming pool is superb: really wide and deep, outstanding views and (as it has salt in it) no nasty chlorine smell; in our stay the weather was hot some spent most of the time at the pool area and it was impeccable. At sunset the swifts dived on in it ti skim the water surface for an and of the day drink, very relaxing to watch and if you want to see more of it sit on the stone bench few feet away from the pool. I think that this was the highlight of a very restful holiday.

We had all our meals at the dining area under the pergola where it was cool and had great views; the barbecue works a beauty and we had some really good grilled local grilled meat and sausages.

Jessica the lady in charge of the house is very nice and efficient and her pizza making experience was fun and very tasty.

We also walked to some villages nearby and the walks are great fun as it is rather wild if compared to British country walks but the paths are well marked. I recommend the walk to Riana and to Lupinaia. We couldn't resist the curiosity to visit the village on the hilltop opposite us, Palleroso: definitely worth the drive as it looks like a stage set.

A visit to Castelnuovo is definitely worth given its medieval features, confluence of two rivers and some interesting food shops. We found easier and more convenient do food shopping at Conad supermarket in Pieve Fosciana, very well stocked and priced reasonably.

We also drove to Braga which is an other charming medieval hilltop town and the visit there was extremely interesting as it is like a stage set and the duomo atop the hill has extremely interesting 12th century sculptures.

The house guide book is a masterpiece. If we tame our desire for new places we will be back. Highly recommended!!!

Owner's Response: Dear Giulio and Codacci Pisanelli Clan: Thank you for such a helpful and comprehensive review, we certainly enjoyied having you to stay and hope that someday after seeign all you wish to see, you return to watch the swifts having their evening drink at the infinity salt water pool. They are still doing it now, once it gets cooler they will migrate to Northern Africa, but seem content to stay here for now. We are so glad you enjoyed the ooutisde pizza oven and the barbeque, deffinitely the best way to cook in warm weather enjoying the cool breeze under the pergola terrace. The Barga Jazz festival is on as I write and in a few weeks the swifts will have emigrated and the villa will come into its own with its fireplaces and large living areas, with long chestnut covered hillside walks hunting for funghi procini and black truffles and enjoying the latest organic wine vintage... the best ! and later on still with excellent skiiing just under an hours drive away. A very different aspect to the fabulous experience you had at La Collina del Sole. I have recently found some fabulous new experiences for the villa handbook including a visit to the vineyard whcih won best organic wine of Italy 2015, they are very close as we overlook their vinyards.... there will be plenty of new aspects to enjoy at La Collina del Sole. We look forward to keeping in touch A PRESTO !

Beautiful Italian Villa Experience

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed stepping back in time to enjoy La Collina Del Sole and the charming surrounding small villages. The villa comfortably fit all 10 of us and we took full advantage of the saltwater infinity pool. Listening to the nearby church bells and observing the swallows skimming the water of the pool are very special memories of our stay. One of our favorite experiences was the Pizza Experience starting in the kitchen then continuing out onto the beautiful wisteria covered pergola. Maria, Gessica, and Frederica are very personable. We hiked the trails and local mountains and traveled to Torre Del Lago for the Italian opera, Turandot at the Puccini Festival. Castelnuovo is very close by and we visited for dinner out. Thank you so much Chrissie and Andy for a memorable vacation!

Owner's Response: It was SUCH a pleasure to look after you, we are delighted ou were able to fully enjoy the ralaxation, the experiences and the FUN available at La Collina del Sole. The Swallows "hapy hour" when they skim the surface of the saltwater pool in the evenning has got to be my all time favourite, there is such peace and beauty in simply admiring nature at its most complete. So glad you enjoyed visiting the food shops and reataurants in Castelnuovo and Opera at Torre del Lago, so wonderful to listen to Puccini in the place where he actually wrote and composed the operas. See you soon !

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your feedback, it was a pleasure to host you we look forward to welcoming you again. There is no shortage of activities to do near La Collina del Sole as you saw from our handbook, so no fear of running out of new experiences. Followign these you can then return to the same high standard of villa delivered meals or even try the feast where all is cooked, served and cleared up for you, rather like the Pizza Experience your children so enjoyed, and then of course ... that fabulous pool to cool down in. A presto !

Exceptional Tuscan Experience

  • 5 of 5

La Colllina del Sol is not just a beautiful place it is a lifetime memory. The moment you arrive you are treated to spectacular views from the villa, infinity pool and the outdoor terrace. The villa is wonderfully furnished and has everything you need to settle in for a relaxing stay. Chrissie and Andrew prepared a book of memorable options and contacts from massages and hiking to pizza making. These hosts went out of their way with special touches to make our experience and stay memorable. The location was great for trips to local wineries, Lucca, Florence, San Gimignano, Sienna and Cinque Terre. Truly a place to enjoy all that Tuscany offers.
