The village bakery is less than a 5 minute stroll for your delicious fresh daily baguettes and croissants and the local bar/restaurant is an easy 10 min walk from the house. Swim in the beautiful mountain lake less than a 10 minute drive away. We searched high and low for this house and we found a real gem which we are sure you will enjoy! Key features include:

About the Owner

We are John and Emma Turner who live near Brighton in Sussex. It took us five years to completely restore the house that had been left empty for over 40 years. It was a labour of love but the results speak for themselves!

Guestbook comments from the manager

1. What a perfect place for a relaxing getaway. The house is what dreams are made of and we had a truly fantastic time here. Open fire, stunning interior, plenty of sunshine, surrounded by beautiful friends, you really can’t ask for anything more! Already planning our next visit! (Sarah, May 2014)

2. I feel absolutely spoiled. The house provided comfort and luxury and there were endless amounts of delightful details to discover. I especially loved the unique rustic décor and a returning home with some interior design ideas. I will miss the green, the comfortable beds, the wonderful kitchen and the glorious atmosphere. Merci beaucoup! (Claire, August 2014)

3. Thank you SO much John and Emma! We’re pretty much gob-smacked with your incredible house. You are clever sticks indeed! We loved staying and felt incredibly comfortable and at home here. We don’t want to leave. P.s what a lovely experience to hang one’s smalls out to dry in the woods! X (Sue and friends, Summer 2014)

4. We had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful house. It took no time at all to slip into French style laziness with lengthy red wine infused lunches, a little café jazz, petanque on the lawn and afternoon snoozes in the sun. Jess and Friends (Summer 2014)

5. It’s a beautiful house and the area is great. We (3 couples with babies) had a very comfortable stay. It’s a really sociable house too. Thanks. (Sarah/Simon and friends Autumn 2013)

6. We had a really super week . The house was totally what I had hoped and expected. You've done a really fab job. Really quality renovation and modernisation while remaining totally in character with the nature of the house. My mum said that straight away she thought the house and grounds had a really good feel to it. A thoroughly memorable experience, a fabulous house and a real credit to you ...well done. Definition of Relaxation.

  • 4 of 5

This house has been refurbished beautifully maintaining a lot of original features . It is full of character and charm. I stayed here with my 3 sisters and our 89yr old mother. We have been taking my mother away for the past few years and this was her favourite holiday. The setting of the house is just stunning so peaceful and relaxing. The surrounding area has stunning scenery. You would need a car here as you are 30 minutes drive from Carcassonne. The week we stayed the temperature was not as hot as it normally is and you would need a jumper in the evening. Would definitely recommend this lovely house. Maybe a few more sunbeds only one there.!

Lovely spacious traditionally restored farmhouse

  • 4 of 5

We had a great holiday here, the house is nicely restored in traditional fashion - lots of wood, stone and big beams; very tasteful, comfortable and well appointed. We especially loved the mezzanine and beautiful lounge, and the shower in the main bathroom! There is so much space - both inside and out. The grounds are lovely and there is plenty of choice as to where to relax, read and eat. All in all a great place to holiday - plenty to do and see; Carcassonne is close and the Med at Narbonne is a relatively short drive. Once again, thank you!

Wonderful rustic retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this recently renovated and well maintained, spacious traditional country property. Excellent accommodation on both floors and lots of outside space exactly as described in the details.

Log fires made it even more cosy when returning from tours of the picturesque surrounding countryside and local villages and towns.

We will definitely be returning to this accommodation to explore Carcassonne and Canal du Midi area.

Recommended.

a tranquil haven

  • 5 of 5

A rustic pearl set in this beautiful region. Myself and my young family found the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure. The beautiful converted house itself is full of exceptional features and touches. Although we made day trips out, we also made full use of the facilities at the house, exploring the grounds, playing badminton, cooking up a barbeque and taking in the last of the sun on the spacious veranda with some tasty regional wine. Highly recommended

Phew!

  • 5 of 5

First holiday abroad with a three year old, and we just wanted everything to be perfect and stress free, and we certainly weren't disappointed. What a totally stunning place this was. Everything was easy to arrange. Emma was easy to contact, nothing was too much bother. Everything we needed for a family holiday was there.....And it was just such a beautiful setting. There is so much to do locally, we did venture to the lakes to swim, but found that just staying in the garden and beautiful woods suited us just fine, with the odd trip down to the local bar. Can not recommend enough for a relaxing family holiday. Thank you for making our holiday so magical. We hope to be back soon.

Wonderful 'wooden' house

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time, thank you very much and really enjoyed being able to stay in your beautiful house. Despite all the stone, my daughter called it the "wooden house" because she was so impressed by how much reclaimed wood you had used - particularly in the bathroom, which she loved. In so far as feedback goes, all we lacked was a hair dryer and an ironing board (but my mother-in-law said the latter was my problem, not yours, because no sane person wants to iron on their holiday - I fear she is right but she didn't see my packing...). I do hope one day we might make a return visit!

Location

From the Owner

We love the tranquillity of the Montagne Noire. It has both rural charm and scenery to take your breath away. There are dappled forests and mountain lakes and the snowy peaks of the Pyrenees loom in pin-sharp focus from the other side of the plain. The house is amazing;it has a great feel to it and the surrounding gardens and woodland are lovely. Although we don't have a pool you can swim in the mountain lake just down the road. We very much hope that you visit and enjoy it too.

Facilities

From the Owner

Our house is unique. It was renovated by us and much of the house was hand built by John. The kitchen is handmade using the timbers reclaimed from the house. He built the oak staircase with Sussex oak (brought over on the roof of our car)! He also designed and built (with our friend Jess) the mezzanine walkway/gallery that links the master bedroom the rest of the house. The traditional stone work was completed by a local artisan who lives in the village. All of this makes the house a very special place. Unlike many holiday homes in France, ours has a fantastic and very large outside garden and we even have our own woodland! We have the luxury of seclusion and privacy, but the comfort of knowing that our friendly neighbours are only a short walk away.
