Notes:
Notes on accommodation: This delightful former sea captain’s house is right on the Fowey River so you really will be - At Water’s Edge. Built on this idyllic spot, nearly 200 years ago has recently been refurbished to a high standard. The views of the river, Bodinnick and surrounding countryside are truly superb. It won’t take you long to feel at home in this comfortably furnished cottage and you can sit back, with a first class view of the river and relax. Watch the sail boats and the kayaks, the rowers practice, the ferryboats and fishermen. The river is bursting with wildlife - cormorants, swans, and ducks – and more recently a dolphin has been spotted! The car park is just 5 minutes walk and from there the car ferry crosses to Bodinnick and the start of the famous Hall Walk with its amazing views of Fowey. A few minutes walk through narrow streets and you are in Fowey town with shops, restaurants and bustling quay. Outside: Delightful brick paved waterside terrace with built in slate seat and balcony over the water. The high walls on either side give privacy and the morning sun makes this a truly delightful outside space. Table and four chairs and small cast iron BBQ. The perfect place to sit with your drink, perhaps enjoy a barbecue, or simply sit in the sun and enjoy the lovely views. Full gas central heating and electricity included in price.

Lovely cottage in a fantastic location

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week at Water's Edge. The cottage is cosy, clean and tidy and is very well equipped. The location is great being right on the river and it is fascinating watching all kinds of boats (and even a ship!) going past. Parking was fine at the nearby Caffa Mill car park and we got a rover ticket which meant we could use most Cornwall Council car parks during our stay. I imagine parking might be more tricky in the summer though. There are plenty of things to do in the vicinity, Lanhydrock House was really good as was Tregrehan Gardens with all the beautiful spring flowers and colourful azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons. We would certainly recommend a stay here, the only down side being that there are a lot of stairs (4 floors including the top bedroom/bathroom, which we didn't use) so it wouldn't suit anyone with mobility problems. The main part of Fowey is within walking distance so plenty of restaurants, boat trips and other things to do on your doorstep, but the cottage is peaceful as it is on the edge of town. All in all a great place for a holiday.

Location

Coast/Beach:

When the Fowey River is at low tide the beach is just below your balcony! There is a lovely family beach at Readymoney Cove the other side of the town and many beautiful Cornish beaches a short drive away. For Du Maurier fans the Menabilly beach is only a short drive away - made famous in Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca.

Travel:

For rail links the stations are Par, 3 miles or St Austell, 7 miles. Nearest airport is Newquay, 20 miles. When arriving by car, you will need to drive through Fowey town to get to Passage Street. The roads are very narrow but you can pull up right outside of the property to offload. Caffa Mill car park 2 minutes walk away - tickets can be purchased with cash, credit card or there is 24/7 phone booking system. A few minutes further along the road is the Old Station Car Park.

Distances:

Eden Project just 6 miles away or The Lost Gardens of Heligan (15 miles), Lanhydrock House (7 miles).

Further Details:

Fowey has a good range of shops and wonderful restaurants. You will find local shops along side more famous names. There is a good Post Office and banks. Good choice of restaurants - we love Sam's - great music and pop memorabilia for sale. Several good pubs - The Galleon is a favourite for pub food. Have a look at the Fowey website for lots of information.
