Updated: 25-Nov-2016
Villa in St. Remy de Provence, Bouche de Rhone, France

The villa is detached and in a large garden which has two levels, there are lovely lavender lined rustic steps leading down to the lower level where you will find the private pool, there are mature oaks which cast welcome shadows where you can shelter out of the heat of the day, if you are quiet you may be visited by the local red squirrels. The upper garden wraps around the villa, there is a pergola over the south facing terrace which has wisteria and fragrant Jasmine providing cover where you can relax and sip local wines. Inside on the ground floor there is the open plan living area with three sets of French windows out onto the gardens, the fully equipped kitchen, a double bedroom with en-suite shower room and a separate WC, on the upper floor there are two double bedrooms, bathroom and separate WC. Within walking distance is: the historic centre of St. Remy, the Alpilles hills and walks can be taken along the irrigation canals where you see local life unfolding.

Lovely house in St Remy

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a week staying at this property as a family of 4 (children 13 & 9). Really lovely house, gardens and pool. House was very well equipped and local contact (Simon) very helpful and efficient on arrival/departure.

St Remy is beautiful to explore and there are lots of other locations nearby to visit.

St Remy and this property are recommended for a great holiday.

From the Owner

We have visited this area of France for many years and love the light and scents of provence, it never fails to lift our spirits. The location of the villa allows us to walk down to the centre to be involved in the hustle and bustle of the town or just relax around the pool and potter in the garden, depending on our mood. If feeling energetic we dust off the bicycles and ride around the country lanes up to the foot of the Alpilles.

Activity and Interests

The coastal resort of St. Maries de la Mer offers miles of beaches, boat tours and is a colourful town with a bull ring, this is under an hour by car.

The Camargue with it's white horses, black bulls and flamingos is less than an hour by car and is a national park with special ornithological interest, there are plenty of opportunities to take a horse ride through areas not accessible by other means. Also approx an hour by car you can find Salin de Giraud and Cassis.

Marseille and Nimes airports are both within an hours drive. Avignon airport is 20 minutes away. Avignon TGV (Eurostar) station is 20 minutes away.

Les Baux en Provence, historic hill top town 10km. Avignon 21km, Nimes 45km, Arles 30km, St. Maries de la Mer 60km, Aix en Provence 65km

Further Details:

The centre of St. Remy has plenty of restaurants offering many different cuisines, cafes to sit and people watch, patisseries where just looking through the window will expand your waistline, there are boutiques of colourful provencal products/produce, as you would expect there are plenty of art galleries and museums, there is a walk through the town following Nostrodamus, the local tourist office has all the information you need to explore. On the outskirts are the Roman ruins of Glanum, the asylum of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole where Van Gogh spent time and there are many vineyards and olive groves in the surrounding areas all of which offers "tastings". The market day in St. Remy is on a Wednesday offering everything you could want.

St. Remy is centrally placed for access to many places of interest and historic towns and villages e.g. Pont du Gard over the river Gardon, lovely walks along the banks, the gorges of the Ardeche and the Pont d'arc - beautiful scenery and a canoeist's heaven, Luberon villages, Mont Ventoux.

For the everyday needs there are plenty of banks with cash points, supermarkets and lots of little local independent shops.

From the Owner

We found the town to be a central point to all sorts of places of interest and activities, the town holds lots of fetes and specialist events, there are lots of vineyards and olive oil producers to visit in the local area. We chose this villa because of the large garden and the privacy it affords us. The garden is still evolving and we love planning and bringing our vision ever closer to completion.
