The Bothy is a charming self-catering holiday cottage providing excellent accommodation for two people in the village of Pitmedden. In a peaceful rural location at the end of a private road, yet only 12 miles from Aberdeen, the Bothy is also close to some of the best beaches in the North East of Scotland. The Bothy is a fantastic little gem which has been completely modernised but retains the original stone wall as a feature in the bedroom which uniquely has a log burning stove. A perfect place to tuck up in bed with a good book, or sit in a chair and simply contemplate the garden. Private parking for one car. Newly installed oil fired Central Heating throughout included in the price.
As a family we've had many holidays in self-catering accommodation. I understand how important the little things are in making a holiday cottage enjoyable and memorable. We make it our business to provide you with spotless accommodation, a warm welcome, and a commitment to making sure you enjoy your stay with us. Our visitor feedback tells us we're doing just that!
Martha Simpson purchased this cottage in 2010
Pitmedden is a lovely rural village well positioned for enjoying the fantastic beaches of the North East of Scotland. There are 17 castles in Aberdeenshire, a great Coastal Trail, and we are near the Whisky Trail. Although it has country feel to it, it is only 16 miles to the vibrant city of Aberdeen, although best loved for its access to the sea on the east, and the mountains in the west of the area.
The cottage is at the end of a private road. It is a truly peaceful oasis, and the addition of the log burning stove in the bedroom means you can tuck up with a good book at any time of the year. We have recently installed central heating as we continue to make it the perfect getaway.
Lovely location, beautiful walks, amazing food @ Eat on the Green. Very comfortable sleep, beautiful and homely bothy. Thank Jim and Martha for your wonderful hospitality.

In the bedroom there's a log burner which was a bonus made it really cosey the bathroom was modern and the whole bothy was a home from home it was just soo relaxing sitting outside in the sunshine with a small refreshment after a hard day walking on the beaches I'm definitely going back next year
Up from the South visiting family and friends again. The Bothy makes an ideal base and we feel very lucky to have found you! Very comfortable, weather great – all we could have asked for!
A lovely treasure is Bothy cottage. Immaculately clean, all the essentials you need & beautifully peaceful. A great place to relax and enjoy the simple things in life. Thank you to the lovely Martha for letting us rent her cottage. X
The Bothy provided an excellent base to visit a part of Scotland we were unfamiliar with. Having previously explored islands, mountains and lochs, on first arrival we were a little underwhelmed. How wrong we were! With castles, coast, seals, beautiful gardens, hassle-free driving and most of all, a wonderful feeling of space... we quickly realised what a great place this area is live.
“This was our first visit to Aberdeenshire. We have really enjoyed our stay in a warm, cosy and comfortable cottage with everything we need provided. It is also well situated for many activities. Enjoyed visits to many NTS Castles, enjoyed the wildlife and walking, and a train journey gave us the opportunity to see the landscape from a different perspective. We now leave the comfort and space of the Bothy with many thanks to Martha!”
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. The cottage was was ideal for our stay in the area. We were greeted by the owner Martha and she was great with everything
