Marvellous

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming here since 2010 for 2 weeks every May and we have never been disappointed by the experience so we thought it's about time we did a review. The villa is spacious, clean and comfortable and has all mod cons required for a holiday. This year we have again had a brilliant time either lounging by the pool enjoying the peaceful views over the vineyards with a cool glass of delicious local wine, walking in the pretty lanes and paths over the hills at the back of the village or on the Voie Vert from Herepian, visiting the beach at Valras (about 25 mins by car), shopping in Lamalou les Bains and Pezenas, and visiting some of the really lovely (Michelin listed) restaurants in the area. We are looking forward to coming back again next year for our Faugeres fortnight. This is a really great place to stay AND it is so central for many places of interest, local wine tasting opportunities, and towns/villages with character and local markets - our favourite historical market town being Pezenas.

A little bit of paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting this beautiful villa now for the past 5 years and cannot imagine a more beautiful and peaceful place to spend our main annual holiday. From our very first visit we fell in love with Mas D'Olivier. The villa is really well equipped with all we need. We love the fact that all the herbs, spices etc are there for our use (saves us thinking of buying them when we first arrive) We just make sure we replace anything for the people who follow us and hope they appreciate it!

We have always been so very well looked after by Paul and Bruce, who are just there, but never intrusive. Chris and Pat, the owners, have always done everything to be flexible about our arrival and leaving dates.

I would gladly recommend this property to any friend or relative. Over the years we have had many villa holidays and never returned to any - testament enough of just how perfect we find this holiday idyll.

If any greater testament were needed, our children aged 27 and 22 cannot wait each year for us to rebook!

Lovely villa in the Languedoc

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous fortnight in this wonderful villa in a perfect location in the Languedoc. It was like a home from home, very clean and comfortable and with all the facilities we needed (the shower/wet room is great!). The pool area looks out over vineyards - it was so peaceful to swim and enjoy the view when relaxing by day at the villa. Faugeres is a lovely little village with some fantastic local walks and is well-located for day trips out to larger villages, towns, beaches, and the Haut Languedoc. This part of France is a real gem and we found all of the locals incredibly friendly. The food and wine is also amazing and really made our trip special. I am sure that we will return to the villa in the coming years as there is so much to see in the Languedoc and the villa is an excellent base from which to explore it all. Many thanks to Chris for all his help with the booking and to Paul for meeting and greeting us.

Fabulous setting. Comfortable, convenient.

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been happier with the choice of accommodation. Beautifully located about 20 mins from the city of Beziers, surrounded by a rolling vineyard. Quiet, private, comfortable and clean inside with lots of space for our family of five, including 3 teenagers. The pool was a refreshing end to a three week vacation in the 35 degree heat of the south of France. Given the opportunity we wouldn't hesitate to stay here on our next trip from Canada. Chris was very accommodating in making arrangements and Paul was helpful when we arrived.

Lovely area, disappointing villa

  • 2 of 5

We travel to Europe every year and have been happy with the properties we have rented. I rented this villa for 3 weeks in spite of it having no reviews as it looked well maintained in the photos.

We were met by a local neighbour who gave us a brief and adequate tour of the villa and pool. I was shocked at how run down the house looked on the outside and the overgrown weeds around the pool and washing line area. The security gates were hard to open/close, tiles around the pool area where the sun lounges are were broken.

Inside, the villa is spacious with plenty of storage available in the bedrooms.

The negatives: We slept in the bedroom that had doors leading to the pool. The mattress was very hard and old, we eventually solved the issue by putting the pool lounge cushions under the mattress protector to make the bed softer. No top sheet was provided to sleep with. As we were there in summer it is not practical to sleep under a duvet. We bought a top sheet and new pillows (the ones available were very flat) from the supermarket 7kms away. When we left we donated them to a charity bin situated near Aldi in Beziers.

The kitchen cupboard and fridge was full of the owners food. We had to move things around in the fridge so we could store our own food. The oven and oven mitts were filthy (I washed these) and we did not use the oven for the 3 weeks. We used the BBQ instead.

When I went to wash the sheets we had just bought, the soap dispenser for the washing machine was covered in black mould. So revolting. It took my husband quite a while to clean it.

The wifi and cable TV worked well and the 3 bedrooms have air conditioning. The IKEA sofas were comfortable and adequate as there was only the 2 of us using the villa.

The Faugeres area is lovely and the views from the villa are wonderful. We visited the places the owner suggested and thoroughly enjoyed the area, but not the villa. I would not recommend this property to friends as it is below the standard of what we expected and was not as clean as a holiday accommodation should be, thick cobwebs on windows (removed by us with a brush) for example. We understand that it must be difficult to manage a property from the UK and that it may be the local rep who is responsible for upkeep etc.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our Faugeres holiday villa We are sorry to hear about your mixed experience. We are slightly disappointed that the issues you raised were not taken up with our neighbour who is the property caretaker and is always available to deal with any problems. We are sure that these issues could have been resolved straight away and certainly would not result in guests having extra expenses. We have however actioned repair of the external tile and addressed the upkeep of the garden. Rest assured it is our aim to ensure our guests enjoy their holiday so this feedback is welcomed. We would also like to highlight the fact this is the only negative response received from our guests in over 5 years of lets. Indeed we get many repeat visitors who have told us how much they like the property. Chris Bennett & Pat Robinson
