About the property

Villa in Borgo Montefienali, Gaiole-in-Chianti. A Beautiful Hamlet In Chianti

A charming and well-equipped villa in a peaceful, restored 13th Century Tuscan Borgo (hamlet) in the heart of the Chianti Classico Wine Growing Region of Italy. The hamlet enjoys breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and is the ideal location for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. There is plenty to do in the region, Siena and Florence are within easy reach, as well as many other Renaissance towns such as Cortona, Montepuliano, Pienza and San Gimignano. There are many festivals and events throughout the year, including the Florence Music Festival in May, The Palio in Siena (July and August), the Chianti Wine Festival in September. For the wine connoisseur, the large wine producing estates of Castello di Brolio and Fonterutoli are close by. There are also a wide variety of excellent local restaurants a short drive away.

Borgo di Montefienali emerged in the middle of the 13th Century as a remote staging post on an ancient Roman road into the Chianti. After a two-year restoration project Montefienali is once more the ideal place for rest and recuperation for both body and mind and an ideal get away from it all. It is an ideal place to go hiking or for expert bikers.

Its high point is the perfect place for the twin swimming pools. There is a 15m x 7.5 m pool and a small children's swimming pool. Sun beds furnish the surrounding garden and terraces to provide a great place for basking in the sun.

Pools are open from May to September.

There is also a small shop on site, which sells local products including, milk, bread, meats, wines and many other products. Outside is a small communal garden with tables, chairs and parasols where you can enjoy a coffee & gelato.

The shop is open from June to Mid-September.

Note about the approach road: Approximately 2 km of wide, well maintained, unpaved road of no particular difficulty followed by a final kilometre of narrow paved road with 100 mtrs of steep slope at 25% . Proceed with caution in case of oncoming traffic.

Few km away you might visit Castles of Meleto, Brolio, Spaltenna and others. Florence is in 70 km, Siena 40 km, Arezzo 40 Km, Gaiole in Chianti 15 km, Castelnuovo Berardenga 15km, San Gusmè 10 km. Montevarchi train station, connecting Florence or Arezzo in 40 minutes by train, is 17 minutes by car.

Charming 3-bed Villa near Gaiole-in-Chianti, Tuscany, Italy

Stunning property in an idyllic location.

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic villa. It was everything we wanted and offered a perfect setting for a peaceful short break in idyllic surroundings. The property is presented to a very high standard, spotlessly clean and spacious, and equipped with everything you would need for a self-catering holiday. The immediate area provides a great choice of short walks and a number of interesting small towns are all easily accessible. I would however recommend stopping at a larger supermarket [CooP] en-route from the airport for food etc as the local shops hold only the basics. All the local restaurants we tried were superb and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back for another stay in 2017 - highly recommended with nothing to fault!

Perfect place to press life's reset button!

  • 5 of 5

This was my second trip to this beautiful villa. The first time I visited, this little hamlet took my breath away with its charm, history and the stunning views and peacefulness. everywhere I looked I wanted to capture with a photo ..... until my phone was full! This last visit I stayed in the moment though (just a few photos!), it's not often you get the chance to just stop and appreciate everything.

The villa - loved it, all mod cons, cozy lounge with open fire, very comfy sofas, stunning views, little kitchen but with everything you need, master bedroom has an amazing terrace with more beautiful views and lovely powerful shower in both bathrooms. Outside the villa has two areas where you can sit peacefully with a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening - chianti obviously!

The pool - I didn't use it this time as December is rather chilly, but it is a great size, easily big enough for a good swimming session if you feel so inclined, or to just take a quick dip to cool off when it's hot in the summer.

The area - other than the amazing views from the villa, driving up to the hamlet you will see so many more beautiful sights - had to stop the car and take them in a few times! There are now some mapped walking routes starting at Montefienali and I think some of these are also for mountain bikes. I visited both Florence and Sienna whilst I was there as well as many other beautiful local places .... best restaurant I have to recommend - the Osteria del Castello at Castello di Brolio - wonderful tasting menu.

I will look forward to returning here again sometime.

A beautiful and tranquil location

  • 5 of 5

After reading the comments book, I realised that many people have revisited this beautiful house. I can understand why, as I am one of them! Having been in September last year, it was warm and sunny and very quiet, it took a day or two to unwind. Going again this Easter, i knew what to expect, and I noticed the place had been freshly painted and some nice touches have been added with some bright cushions and a fab outdoor dining table. Unfortunately the evening wasn't warm enough to take advantage of it, but we did at lunch! The drive down to the hamlet isn't for the faint hearted, but so worth it! Stock up well before you get there, but there is a good sized fridge and small freezer compartment. If you visit as a large group, there are plenty areas to have a private drink (or two!) or your own or meet all together. We look forward to visiting again because you will start to struggle to think about what you left behind after a day or two. Total unwind. ( plus amazing wine and sightseeing)

Beautiful villa in gorgeous vicinity

  • 4 of 5

Alles in allem also weiterzuempfehlen. Wir würden jederzeit gerne wiederkommen.

Owner's Response: Thank you Thomas. To respond to your comment about the pool, the condominium maintenance company will be refurbishing the pool area at the end of September after the holiday season has ended. This work will include relining the pool itself, replacing paving tiles & improving access to comply with new Italian legislation.
