Spacious Chalet Bungalow, Close To 7 Beaches

Overview

Property

Updated: 09-Nov-2016
House in St Merryn, nr Padstow, Cornwall, England , Walking Distance To Pubs !Restaurants

Penwhine is a spacious chalet style bungalow with plenty of family accommodation. The house is our family holiday home. It has a large well equipped kitchen with adjoining large dining room that can seat 8. There is a cosy sitting room with small television and DVD player , and plenty of games. There are 2 twin rooms and a small bunk room on the ground floor and family bathroom, upstairs is the large master bedroom with adjoining shower and wc. The house has been described as a tardis by some guests. There is a small child and dog proof garden at the back of the house and plenty of parking.

The house is in a much sought after location close to the championship golf course and country club in Constantine bay, with no fewer than 7 sandy beaches within about 2 miles each with its own unique charm. For surfers there is a wave for all weathers and levels of ability; for families, rock pools galore and wide expanses of sandy beaches for building castles and running off some steam . Trevose is an area of outstanding natural beauty and is renowned for the variety and stunning beauty of its costal walks, especially around Trevose head with its spectacular views. St Merryn has an excellent village store , deli, bakery and surf shop . 2 pubs, the Farmers Arms and The Cornish Arms which now belongs to Rick Stein and serves great pub food . The bustling historic fishing town of Padstow is just 4 miles away with all its eateries , restaurants, shops, pubs and little galleries .

The large patio area at the back of the house is ideal for relaxing after a tough day on the beach or paying golf and plenty of space for the children to run about while you sip something long and cold.

About the Owner

I have holidayed in Cornwall all my life originally at Trebetherick and Polzeath and now this side of the camel estuary. we have 4 children and now they all still enjoy coming to this area, so does granny! We have always wanted to have a home in Cornwall and now are lucky enough to own Penwhine. Our home is in Oxfordshire where my husband runs a stud farm and I am a physiotherapist.

We had a fabulous week in St Merryn, with some tremendous walks to dog friendly beaches. The whole family enjoyed staying at your house with all it had to offer. We most definitely would love to return. Thank you x

Lovely week in a brilliant location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Penwhine for Christmas week and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The property is very well equipped with everything you might possibly need, and is spacious and clean. The biggest plus with this house is the location. We'd never really explored this part of the coast and was amazed at the huge number of beautiful beaches and coves just a stones throw away. There are two nice pubs within walking distance and good amenities in the village. I'd definitely recommend this holiday home for a relaxing Cornish get away.

Perfect getaway property

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Penwhine. This being our first trip to the area we didn't know what to expect but we found the village great, beach outstanding and the property perfect for our needs. There were 2 families of 4, 4 adults and 4 children and we had the perfect amount of room. Spacious bedrooms, a lovely big kitchen and even a wishing well to keep the children enthralled. An extra special touch was a bottle of champagne and card from the owners wishing us a Happy New Year.

I would recommend this property to families looking to escape to the coast and would love to return in the Summer.

Brilliant!

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a wonderful week in this fabulously placed bungalow. It is truly a tardis and we had plenty of space for adults and lounging teens. The lack of wifi was wonderful and the Monopoly became a regular trip hazard/ that or the dog crashed out after two walks on local beaches. We loved this house and holiday - we have walked, played board games., body- boarded to our hearts' content. The only complaint is that we had to come home again...

I would have stayed longer and will definitely return.

Try:

Pasties - still working on removing the added layer from a pasty a day :)

Walk from Constantine to Mother Iveys bay then back across via golf course to Constantine.

Body boarding at Treyarnon... think this is spelling - bizarrely we had been here years ago - great fun!

Could go on for hours - we will return :)

A lovely bungalow within the heart of St Merryn. Home from home type accommodation. Plenty of space and ample on site parking. Everything you need. Best selection of games for kids ( and Adults) I've ever seen.

Penwhine , St Merryn . A wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We cannot rate this place too highly . It is a real Home from Home. Everything you could want . Deceptively spacious from the picture too. Ideal for travelling around all the smaller beautiful beaches rather than the main towns but only a stonesthrow from Padstow and walkable to Rick Steins Cornish Arms.

Location

From the Owner

We love north Cornwall, it has something to offer all ages from tiny tots to grandparents. There is always new to do and discover, I even went coasteering last year , jumping off high cliffs into the Atlantic swell was something else! The beaches are quieter here than the more well known resorts of Polzeath and Newquay. The journey from the M5 has improved considerably over the past few years.we can get here from Oxfordshire in 3 3/4 hours if the traffic is good. The surfing and walking are fantastic and so is the eating!

Coast/Beach:

7 fantastic beaches are all within a 10 minute drive. Constantine is a wonderful big beach with great surf. Porthcothan is our favourite beach, great surf at low tide. Harlyn can also have great surf and is generally a safer beach for small children. Boobys bay is a wonderful and often quiet beach lovely rock pools but only accessible at low tide. Treyarnon, Trevone and Mother Iveys bay are all great beaches with rock pools and nice sand. Boobys, Harlyn, Constantine, Porthcothan dog friendly.

Travel:

Nearest airport Newquay, about 20 minutes drive away. Nearest train station, Bodmin or Newquay. There is an excellent coastal bus service including buses into Padstow.

Distances:

Padstow is about 2.5 miles away, Newquay 12 miles, Watergate Bay 8 miles (home to Jamie Olivers 15 restaurant), Eden project 22 miles, Truro (Cornwalls capital city and wonderful cathedral, 29 miles, garden and house at Lanhydroc 8 miles, St Ives ( home of Tate in Cornwall) 49 miles, riding 2 miles, bike hire in padstow, Rock, either take the ferry from Padstow or drive round the estuary via Wadebridge, about 15 miles, Port Issac 18 miles, Tintagel 23 miles and Polzeath, 16 miles.

Further Details:

Padstow, with its, well known fishing harbour, home to Rick Stein's restaurants, shops, cafe and fish and chips and cookery school is 2.5 miles away. Tesco also in Padstow as is the national lobster hatchery. The surfing in this area is great and there are several surf schools to recommend. Golf is available at Trevose. Fishing from the shore or deep sea fishing is available from Padstow. Safe bicycle riding on the camel trail and bike hire is readily available in Padstow or Wadebridge. Wadebridge is a small cornish town with good local shopping. Coasteering is on offer just outside Newquay. Paddle boarding is taught at Harlyn. Tennis courts and swimming pool at Trevose Golf club. Horse riding just outside St Merryn.

japanese garden at St Mawgan, Bodmin railway, Poldark mine, Cardinam woods for great walks. Pencarrow, Prideaux place and Trerice are all interesting properties, Crealey Cornwall and Dairy land are more suitable for younger guests. Padstow farm shop just this side of padstow is full of nice food and has a good butcher. The Light house at Trevose head and the life boat are well worth a visit.

Facilities

From the Owner

The house is spacious and has a friendly feel, the dining room is well away from the bedrooms so there is little danger of waking sleeping children if you are having a noisy dinner. Unlike many holiday properties the house has everything (i think ) you need for proper cooking, nothing worse that wanting to make cookies and having no scales or mixing bowl.I even have some recipe books there. We now have a small TV there, mainly for rental guests, it is surprising how your children will manage to play games etc if there is no telly. Why not detox away from wifi and mobile phones?
