About Auriol Williams

We moved from the Gower 22 years ago to live closer to family but decided to buy a seaside apartment as a weekend retreat to catch up with old friends and enjoy what the Gower has to offer. The purchase of the second apartment was I'm afraid, sheer indulgence! Succumbed to temptation - the caretaker had phoned us to say next door was up for sale!

Although now, having moved back into the area neither of us feel like selling either apartments!

We are both retired, my husband, as a vet who worked long hard hours found it difficult to settle quietly into retirement !!! He is kept busy seeing that the high standard of the apartments are maintained and I'm kept busy managing both properties

We enjoy the opportunity of meeting new people and are happy to provide local knowledge when asked.

Auriol Williams purchased this apartment in 1996

Why Auriol Williams chose Wales

It's just a wonderful seaside location! The apartments have uninterrupted views overlooking the stunning bay at Caswell in the Gower peninsular. It takes just seconds to run down along Redcliffe's private access onto the sandy beach below. We love to listen to the sound of the sea and watch the ever changing views from the apartment's window. As impressive, are the changing skies and to see "the weather" approaching from the horizon. A stimulating environment for a painter, a writer or for just ordinary folk like us who are looking for peace and relaxation. It certainly feeds our souls.

What makes this apartment unique

Most definitely the ability to switch off and unwind. Be lazy if we choose, or take a stroll to the next bay along the coastal path and sip a glass of wine on the balcony at the Langland Brasserie. We love to watch the surfers entertain us for hours in the comfort of our armchairs or to join them ( in an imaginary way!) It's just a wonderful place to be!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just loved the mornings.

Long leisurely breakfasts, reading the papers, working our way through a cafetiere of coffee, and all with that magnificent view.

We just loved the days.

Visiting one beautiful bay after another, great cliff-top walks, pretty Mumbles town interspersed with a lovely selection of cakes.

We just loved the evenings.

Never thought there would be such a variety of great places to eat - tried Lebanese to Italian and everything in between.

We just love coming back to...

Such a lovely well thought out apartment, where everything is sent to make you chill out and relax.

Thank you Auriol and Hugh for getting it so right!"

We have had a wonderful time again this year at Caswell, the apartment was lovely as always and we don't want to leave. Thank you very much. We love it here and will see you next year"

A ROOM WITH A VIEW

  • 5 of 5

We booked this apartment solely due to the view and for once we were not disappointed. We have booked holiday rentals before based upon information about views as I love a view but been disappointed. But not here. All the comments about relaxing in front of the view are accurate and we loved this aspect of the apartment. We had lovely days out and then would come back to relax for the rest of the day. The apartment is lovely too. I really appreciated the fact there was so much hot water too as I am not well so was able to have lovely baths in the morning and evening too. Not had that facility in any other rentals. We loved watching the light change over the sea and together with all the other facts would love to come back again. We didn't go out a lot for meals as we enjoyed eating in and then relaxing watching the changing scene. Auriol and Hugh are lovely. Other things to mention are lots of towels and lots of cleaning materials too. It is well equipped. I love watching people on the beach too with their dogs. So all in all we had a great holiday. The description is very accurate for a change and we would recommend this apartment to any one!

5 Star Plus

  • 5 of 5

We have been holidaying at this apartment for more than 10years and each time we return we find the hands-on owners have made thoughtful and practical improvements. The flat is impeccably clean, cosy and comfortable, tastefully decorated with quality furnishings and linens. The kitchen is very well equipped, and for wet Welsh days there are books, freeview,CDs etc.The children are not left out, being provided with toys, books and beach equipment. But the highlight of the accommodation is the wonderful view from the large picture window of the beautiful Caswell Bay.Whatever the weather we relax watching the changing panorama below us,the surfers, canoeists, children with buckets and spades, walkers on the cliff paths and the glorious sea and sand.

The neighbouring village of Oystermouth offers a complete change with its variety of attractive independent shops, while Mumbles promenade offers a plethora of interesting eating places to suit all tastes and pockets.Within striking distance is Swansea(the market)Llanelli(the Wetlands Centre)and Carmarthen(ancient market town) each with their own unique Welsh ambience.Don't miss Laugharne where Dylan Thomas lived and drew his inspiration for 'Under Milk Wood'.Above all there is the glorious Gower and using this apartment as a base cannot be bettered !

Owner's Response: Thank you Peter and Magaret for writing such a lovely review. We always look forward to welcoming you back to Redcliffe every year and it gives us much pleasure to know that the apartment feels like your second home. We continue to look for ways of improving your stay and feel humbled that you notice every small change with appreciation. The views as you say are wonderful and it is a joy for us being there even when we are busy doing the change overs! Once our job is done we head straight across the beach to the Surfside cafe for a well deserved cup of coffee and a toasted tea cake!

Comfy apartment. Lovely view

  • 4 of 5

Don't be put off by a very ugly building when you first arrive - the apartment is good inside!

Nice comfy and clean apartment, friendly and very helpful owners. Lovely views over the beach from the lounge, although no balcony to sit outside which is a shame.

Literally a stones throw from a good beach (when tide is out), and there are a couple of cafes at the other end of the beach.

Bedrooms are quite small and have no windows other than those built into the ceilings. Main bedroom has standard double bed rather than kingsize I think. Decent quality bedding and towels.

Local towns are not pretty at all, but the coastline is special.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time to write a review. I would agree the building is not attractive but its location is just breathtaking. Once inside the apartment, not a buildings in sight - including Redcliffe! Just the uninterrupted views of the bay. The bedrooms are small, just functional! The windows mentioned in the ceilings have the added benefit of having black out electronic blinds, with a rain sensor to close if left open. Ah, the village of Mumbles - beauty is in the eye of the beholder! We love it but people's tastes are different. The world would be a poorer place if we all agreed on everything!

Owner's Response: It really does give us such pleasure to read your lovely comments. We do need a bit of a shove and a push to ask our visitors to write a review. Yours came without an ask! Thank you both very much. We look forward to welcoming you back next year. We do try to match the accommodation's standard with its wonderful location. Very difficult when we are blessed with such a stunning view!
