About the property

Burry Port Holiday Cottage, Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK

One of a short terrace of Victorian cottages with bags of original character. Completely refurbished in 2016, it is comfortably furnished and well equipped. Cast iron multifuel burner in the sitting room. Sun trap garden laid to lawn. The cottage is a 2 minute walk to Burry Port centre with shops, pubs, restaurants, and the marina, harbour, lighthouse and town beaches just beyond. New childrens playground just around the corner. Burry Port is well placed for access to Cefn Sidan, Wales' longest (7 mile length) beach and numerous activities at the stunning family friendly Pembrey Country Park. The Millennium Coastal Park passes through for miles of cycling and walking along beautiful clear seawater estuary coastline. Within easy day trip reach of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire coastlines for breathtaking scenery, beaches and walking. Carmarthenshire is informally known as the 'garden' county of Wales; the National Botanic Garden of Wales, historic gardens, houses and places of interest are all within manageable travel distances.

About Richard Nash

My childhood was full of freedom, sunshine, fresh air, of being near the sea, beaches and big open skies. Having lived in London and Bristol for many years, I would yearn to be back and would be happy to spend time trekking in and out to get those few precious days on or near the coast and return home relaxed and replenished. It has been a long term ambition to be within a stones throw of the beach and the sea and one day I just woke up and thought it's time to make this happen - so, as they say, 'Where there's a will there's a way' and it has proved to be one of the best decisions I've ever made!

Richard Nash purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Richard Nash chose Carmarthenshire

Burry Port is easily accessible from the M4 but this part of the coast is relatively unknown and therefore hasn't been overdeveloped or spoilt. There's a strong sense of community spirit in the town which shows through the great friendliness and hospitality extended to all.

The golden sandy beaches are fantastic especially at Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan - plenty of level cycling, walking and beach-combing with something different to see on every occasion; the bird life, light, sea, even sand yachting! If you feel like exploring further afield there is a host of different day trip locations; houses, gardens, towns, waterfalls, beach coves.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage was owned and lived in by four generations of the same family and has retained much of its original quaintness, character and charm and it has a very relaxing atmosphere. Its great to wake up in the morning and peak out at the views of the Gower and if the wind is in the right direction hear the sound of the sea. Kids love the garden -originally planted for self sufficiency in veg but now lawned and ideal for running around or clambering the old apple tree. Its a true hotspot - hence the canvas curtain over the front door (as the paint was burning off) and when the weather is balmy a great place to catch the last of the sun with an evening drink or barbecue. Happy Holidays!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cottage was beautiful, exactly what we wanted - total escape from it all, peace, quiet, a chance to de-stress & relax with days on the beach, horseriding, castle hunting, even an educational visit or two!

Thank you so much

Helen - Stourbridge, W Midlands

The cottage & Burry Port is a find; its such a good base for exploring the area. We loved the harbour, beaches & the

Lighthouse Café is a must for lunch! Every day has brought a new surprise......Pembrey Park is stunning, the huge stretches of sand & dunes are magnificent & this part of the coast in our opinion was a match for the Gower any day! Everyone has been has so helpful & friendly; this is definitely a place to return to - a wonderful week!

Very impressed with this comfortable little cottage.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I along with our Border Collie really enjoyed our Burry Port stay, 5 minute stroll to the harbour, lots of walks and in easy reach of either the Gower or further West.

Wonderful !

  • 4 of 5

Reallly lovely cottage , tastefully done with high spec finish. Everything you could possibly need is there already. Owner is fabulous if needed for any reason & leaves little touches like milk & welsh cakes as well as tea coffee sugar etc.

Very close to lovely little harbour with fabulous beach & coastal path walks - 5 mins or so.

Already looking at dates to return.

A week of relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We chose the location due to the beach being in reasonable walking distance and it catering for our dog. The cottage is not on a main road so parking is at the end of an access road. However, you can drive to the rear of the property to drop off luggage, wife, dog etc.

There is a long well maintained garden with the property but this is separated from the cottage by a six foot right of way, so you can't just kick the dog out in the rain.

The cottage was spotlessly cleaned before our arrival. Milk, tea and some Welsh teacakes were there for us when we arrived. The cottage sleeps five, two doubles and a single room accessed through one of the bedrooms.

Wood flooring and tiles throughout downstairs allows for easy cleaning after sandy paws meander around. The area was very quiet while we were there (late September) as were the beaches.

The local pub, The Ship Aground, recommended in the guide closed the day before we arrived, but there are other eateries nearby.

Great stay, dodgy weather, well September! Got lots of exercise.

I recommend this property. There is no washing machine, however, we packed accordingly. Launderette is two minutes away.

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely break in this comfortable stylish cottage which, although a short stroll to the harbour and pubs/ restaurants, was in a peaceful location with a very pretty garden. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and the beaches peaceful and unspoilt. Lots to see and do locally and within a short distance. Excellent communication from owner. Highly recommended!

This was a lovely little cottage which provided everything we needed although we did spend a lot of our time out and about as we had fantastic weather.

Everything we needed we had, and the beach was so close by it truely was a very relaxing stay. The milk, wine and Welsh cakes were a lovely gesture from Richard and appreciated on our arrival.
