Burry Port - Cottage Near Harbour & Beaches

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
Burry Port Holiday Cottage, Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK

One of a short terrace of Victorian cottages with bags of original character. It is comfortably furnished and well equipped. Cast iron multifuel burner in the sitting room. Sun trap garden laid to lawn. The cottage is a 2 minute walk to Burry Port centre with shops, pubs, restaurants, and the marina, harbour, lighthouse and town beaches just beyond. New childrens playground just around the corner. Burry Port is well placed for access to Cefn Sidan, Wales' longest (7 mile length) beach and numerous activities at the stunning family friendly Pembrey Country Park. The Millennium Coastal Park passes through for miles of cycling and walking along beautiful clear seawater estuary coastline. Within easy day trip reach of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire coastlines for breathtaking scenery, beaches and walking. Carmarthenshire is informally known as the 'garden' county of Wales; the National Botanic Garden of Wales, historic gardens, houses and places of interest are all within manageable travel distances.

About the Owner

My childhood was full of freedom, sunshine, fresh air, of being near the sea, beaches and big open skies. Having lived in London and Bristol for many years, I would yearn to be back and would be happy to spend time trekking in and out to get those few precious days on or near the coast and return home relaxed and replenished. It has been a long term ambition to be within a stones throw of the beach and the sea and one day I just woke up and thought it's time to make this happen - so, as they say, 'Where there's a will there's a way' and it has proved to be one of the best decisions I've ever made!

The cottage was beautiful, exactly what we wanted - total escape from it all, peace, quiet, a chance to de-stress & relax with days on the beach, horseriding, castle hunting, even an educational visit or two!

Thank you so much

The cottage & Burry Port is a find; its such a good base for exploring the area. We loved the harbour, beaches & the

Lighthouse Café is a must for lunch! Every day has brought a new surprise......Pembrey Park is stunning, the huge stretches of sand & dunes are magnificent & this part of the coast in our opinion was a match for the Gower any day! Everyone has been has so helpful & friendly; this is definitely a place to return to - a wonderful week!

Great property

  • 5 of 5

Property provides a great base to explore the local area. It has been thoughtfully refurbished to maximise the space and is decorated beautifully. As a family of five, we need space and accommodation needs to be well equipped to eat in. This house has everything needed in the kitchen and more!

Local area has lots to offer, we loved the Coastal Path which is flat and tarmaced so great for bikes or pushchairs! Beaches and local park are also stunning so recommended all round!

Beautiful cottage in seaside town

  • 5 of 5

Lovely terrace house, that has been renovated to a high standard. There's a nice sized yard where the kids played. There was a well equipped modern kitchen and bathroom. The bed linen is high quality and very comfortable.

It is really close to the main street for shopping, pubs, groceries and restaurants. Great communication with the owner.

We enjoyed going to Pembrey country park (the toboggan is a must), Llanelli wetland centre (watch out for the hungry Nenes!), the National show caves, and exploring the port of Burry.

Quiet and cosy

  • 5 of 5

We had a very pleasant stay in this cosy little cottage. We found it easily using the owners detailed directions. The area itself was quite residential compared to what we are used to but this meant that we could walk into the town which had lots of pubs, shops and a beautiful beach which was so large that we felt like we had it almost to ourselves....perfect. The locals were very friendly and although we didn't meet the owner he was very helpful and I feel that if we had any queries he would have been straight there to help. The cottage is beautifully decorated and very clean. We enjoyed the local beaches but also drove to the Gower to make the most of the huge sandy beaches there, ideal for the children and dog. The Brecon Beacons were a reasonable drive away for good walks and the Pembrokeshire coast, again about an hour and a half drive away, was beautiful and great for seal watching. Carmarthen is a nice town for shopping and Tenby is a fantastic seaside town. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family .

Location

From the Owner

Burry Port is easily accessible from the M4 but this part of the coast is relatively unknown and therefore hasn't been overdeveloped or spoilt. There's a strong sense of community spirit in the town which shows through the great friendliness and hospitality extended to all. The golden sandy beaches are fantastic especially at Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan - plenty of level cycling, walking and beach-combing with something different to see on every occasion; the bird life, light, sea, even sand yachting! If you feel like exploring further afield there is a host of different day trip locations; houses, gardens, towns, waterfalls, beach coves.

Facilities

From the Owner

The cottage was owned and lived in by four generations of the same family and has retained much of its original quaintness, character and charm and it has a very relaxing atmosphere. Its great to wake up in the morning and peak out at the views of the Gower and if the wind is in the right direction hear the sound of the sea. Kids love the garden -originally planted for self sufficiency in veg but now lawned and ideal for running around or clambering the old apple tree. Its a true hotspot - hence the canvas curtain over the front door (as the paint was burning off) and when the weather is balmy a great place to catch the last of the sun with an evening drink or barbecue. Happy Holidays!
