About the property

Burry Port Holiday Cottage, Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK

One of a short terrace of Victorian cottages with bags of original character. Completely refurbished in 2016, it is comfortably furnished and well equipped. Cast iron multifuel burner in the sitting room. Sun trap garden laid to lawn. The cottage is a 2 minute walk to Burry Port centre with shops, pubs, restaurants, and the marina, harbour, lighthouse and town beaches just beyond. New childrens playground just around the corner. Burry Port is well placed for access to Cefn Sidan, Wales' longest (7 mile length) beach and numerous activities at the stunning family friendly Pembrey Country Park. The Millennium Coastal Park passes through for miles of cycling and walking along beautiful clear seawater estuary coastline. Within easy day trip reach of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire coastlines for breathtaking scenery, beaches and walking. Carmarthenshire is informally known as the 'garden' county of Wales; the National Botanic Garden of Wales, historic gardens, houses and places of interest are all within manageable travel distances.

About Richard Nash

My childhood was full of freedom, sunshine, fresh air, of being near the sea, beaches and big open skies. Having lived in London and Bristol for many years, I would yearn to be back and would be happy to spend time trekking in and out to get those few precious days on or near the coast and return home relaxed and replenished. It has been a long term ambition to be within a stones throw of the beach and the sea and one day I just woke up and thought it's time to make this happen - so, as they say, 'Where there's a will there's a way' and it has proved to be one of the best decisions I've ever made!

Richard Nash purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Richard Nash chose Burry Port

Burry Port is easily accessible from the M4 but this part of the coast is relatively unknown and therefore hasn't been overdeveloped or spoilt. There's a strong sense of community spirit in the town which shows through the great friendliness and hospitality extended to all.

The golden sandy beaches are fantastic especially at Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan - plenty of level cycling, walking and beach-combing with something different to see on every occasion; the bird life, light, sea, even sand yachting! If you feel like exploring further afield there is a host of different day trip locations; houses, gardens, towns, waterfalls, beach coves.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage was owned and lived in by four generations of the same family and has retained much of its original quaintness, character and charm and it has a very relaxing atmosphere. Its great to wake up in the morning and peak out at the views of the Gower and if the wind is in the right direction hear the sound of the sea. Kids love the garden -originally planted for self sufficiency in veg but now lawned and ideal for running around or clambering the old apple tree. Its a true hotspot - hence the canvas curtain over the front door (as the paint was burning off) and when the weather is balmy a great place to catch the last of the sun with an evening drink or barbecue. Happy Holidays!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cottage was beautiful, exactly what we wanted - total escape from it all, peace, quiet, a chance to de-stress & relax with days on the beach, horseriding, castle hunting, even an educational visit or two!

Thank you so much

The cottage & Burry Port is a find; its such a good base for exploring the area. We loved the harbour, beaches & the

Lighthouse Café is a must for lunch! Every day has brought a new surprise......Pembrey Park is stunning, the huge stretches of sand & dunes are magnificent & this part of the coast in our opinion was a match for the Gower any day! Everyone has been has so helpful & friendly; this is definitely a place to return to - a wonderful week!

Notes on accommodation: A lovely friendly cottage, ideal for a fantastic holiday. Please note the bathroom is downstairs. The pretty 'suntrap' garden is at accessed off the front pathway. There is a table and bench seating for 6 people and a freestanding charcoal barbecue available between May and September. Although the cottage doesn't have a washing machine there is a 'classic service wash' launderette in town and lots of washing lines in the garden for drying! First floor storage cupboard with iron + ironing board, hoover etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: We provide feather and down duvets, pillows and bed linen - you just need to bring your own towels for the beach. Very impressed with this comfortable little cottage.

My wife and I along with our Border Collie really enjoyed our Burry Port stay, 5 minute stroll to the harbour, lots of walks and in easy reach of either the Gower or further West.

Lovely Easter Break

  • 4 of 5

Under 2 hours from Gloucester and in easy reach of both the Pembroke coast and the Gower an ideal base to explore both the wider area and the local beaches. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean and warm. The garden was a big bonus for both children and dog. Convenient for the shops, chippy and the pub. Lovely walks along the beach at Burry Port and the beach at Pembry is excellent.

This is our second stay at the cottage. The cottage is beautifully equipped, excellent beds, quality furnishings and very comfy and cosy. I would highly recommend this dog-friendly cottage in a handy location. The cottage is beautifully laid out and has everything you need.

The only small downsides is no parking space, so whilst there are temporary areas to unload, you have to park on a nearby street. There are very steep stairs, which are not a problem for us but maybe for some.

Overall, it is wonderful and a highly recommended stay

Beautiful Cosy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Loved this beautiful cosy cottage. Nicely decorated with special touches which made it feel homely but very tasteful.

The lounge is quite small but as there was only the two of us we had plenty of room, it might be a bit tighter if more stay, as there are two double and a small single bedroom but with plenty to do around about it wouldn’t be a problem. It has a fantastic garden though not able to use it this time as being November it was quite cold.

Th cottage is in a smashing spot, really quiet yet only a few minutes walk to the shops, pubs, cafes and train station. It doesn't have a parking space but we didn’t have a problem finding a space nearby.

We left the car there and caught the train to LLanelli, Swansea and Cardiff. It was so easy and not expensive. We also spent one afternoon at Ffos Las racecourse which is only about four miles away.

If we visited again in the summertime there are lots of nice walks either countryside or coastal. Burry Port itself is friendly and quite old fashioned but in a nice way.

Would definitely like to visit again and would recommend this accommodation.
