About the property

Burry Port Holiday Cottage, Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK

One of a short terrace of Victorian cottages with bags of original character. Completely refurbished in 2016, it is comfortably furnished and well equipped. Cast iron multifuel burner in the sitting room. Sun trap garden laid to lawn. The cottage is a 2 minute walk to Burry Port centre with shops, pubs, restaurants, and the marina, harbour, lighthouse and town beaches just beyond. New childrens playground just around the corner. Burry Port is well placed for access to Cefn Sidan, Wales' longest (7 mile length) beach and numerous activities at the stunning family friendly Pembrey Country Park. The Millennium Coastal Park passes through for miles of cycling and walking along beautiful clear seawater estuary coastline. Within easy day trip reach of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire coastlines for breathtaking scenery, beaches and walking. Carmarthenshire is informally known as the 'garden' county of Wales; the National Botanic Garden of Wales, historic gardens, houses and places of interest are all within manageable travel distances.

About Richard Nash

My childhood was full of freedom, sunshine, fresh air, of being near the sea, beaches and big open skies. Having lived in London and Bristol for many years, I would yearn to be back and would be happy to spend time trekking in and out to get those few precious days on or near the coast and return home relaxed and replenished. It has been a long term ambition to be within a stones throw of the beach and the sea and one day I just woke up and thought it's time to make this happen - so, as they say, 'Where there's a will there's a way' and it has proved to be one of the best decisions I've ever made!

Richard Nash purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Richard Nash chose Carmarthenshire

Burry Port is easily accessible from the M4 but this part of the coast is relatively unknown and therefore hasn't been overdeveloped or spoilt. There's a strong sense of community spirit in the town which shows through the great friendliness and hospitality extended to all.

The golden sandy beaches are fantastic especially at Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan - plenty of level cycling, walking and beach-combing with something different to see on every occasion; the bird life, light, sea, even sand yachting! If you feel like exploring further afield there is a host of different day trip locations; houses, gardens, towns, waterfalls, beach coves.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage was owned and lived in by four generations of the same family and has retained much of its original quaintness, character and charm and it has a very relaxing atmosphere. Its great to wake up in the morning and peak out at the views of the Gower and if the wind is in the right direction hear the sound of the sea. Kids love the garden -originally planted for self sufficiency in veg but now lawned and ideal for running around or clambering the old apple tree. Its a true hotspot - hence the canvas curtain over the front door (as the paint was burning off) and when the weather is balmy a great place to catch the last of the sun with an evening drink or barbecue. Happy Holidays!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cottage was beautiful, exactly what we wanted - total escape from it all, peace, quiet, a chance to de-stress & relax with days on the beach, horseriding, castle hunting, even an educational visit or two!

Owner's Response: Thankyou Karen - .......Yes - apart from being bang amidst the miles of beaches on Carmarthenshires 'Golden Coast' Burry Port is ideally positioned to explore the Gower to the south, Pembrokeshire to the west and Brecons to the North - look forward to you making a return visit sometime - cheers - Richard

Fabulous cottage

  • 5 of 5

This house is a perfect holiday cottage . It's cosy, warm and tasteful. The kitchen is so well equipped, you'd think you were at home! The sun shines in through the front of the house making it light and cheerful. The garden is quiet and sheltered, great for eating lunch and sitting reading in the sun. The beds are very comfy and the hose is peaceful and quiet. It is also very easy to get the train to Camarthen etc. They run regularly . We would highly recommend.

Great quiet and relaxing getaway in an adorable setting.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very clean, comfortable and accommodating. Richard was very helpful in getting me directed to the location (easy walk from the train station) and had the place warmed-up and provided good information about figuring the area out. I rode the bus to Kidwelly castle (amazing!) and then on to Carmarthen. A great way to feel out the region for sure. I made friends with the old crew at the Portobello who sang me songs, taught me a little Welsh and were just a real kick in the pants to spend time with. Thanks Richard!

Great property

  • 5 of 5

Property provides a great base to explore the local area. It has been thoughtfully refurbished to maximise the space and is decorated beautifully. As a family of five, we need space and accommodation needs to be well equipped to eat in. This house has everything needed in the kitchen and more!

Local area has lots to offer, we loved the Coastal Path which is flat and tarmaced so great for bikes or pushchairs! Beaches and local park are also stunning so recommended all round!
