About David and Gill Reid

Dave and Gill Reid, both retired teachers having taught for many years in Hong Kong. Now living in England but frequent visitors to fabulous Sotogrande. We enjoy golf, sailing, racquet sports, skiing and the local Spanish culture and cuisine.

Why David and Gill Reid chose San Roque

We chose Andalucia because of the fabulous climate and the fact that you can ski in the Sierra Nevada and sail in the Mediterranean. Sotogrande appealed because it is a prestigious area with world class golfing facilities, polo clubs, tennis clubs, restaurants, a beach and a marina. We enjoy entertaining family and friends in our house, particularly al fresco dining and relaxing in the garden. Everything we need is within walking distance of the house with the beach only a five minute walk. We love the Spanish culture and architecture and regularly visit Jerez, the sherry producing area and Seville to sample authentic Flamenco dancing.

What makes this villa unique

We love the fact that this is a house with a private garden rather than an apartment (there are so many apartments but not many houses in the marina).

Ribera del Emperador is in the heart of the marina and within walking distance to facilities. A safe environment for children and a comfortable and well equipped home. Suitable for families and keen golfers.

Notes on accommodation: The house is on two levels with two bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs.There are three steps leading to the living room from the dining area.The south facing garden is fenced and does not back on to the water. It is safe for children. Outside: The communal pool with changing facilities is large enough to swim lengths. A lifeguard is on duty in August. Our private, flat garden has sun loungers as well as Kettal outdoor furniture and is a safe area for children to play. The patio has outdoor lights. A popular sandy beach is 3 mins walk from the house. The Octogano Tennis and Padel Club is adjacent to our community. This is an excellent facility with a high standard of coaching for all abilities. Regular open tournaments are organised throughout the year as well as weekly 'mixing' sessions. Visitors are always welcome, regardless of age or experience. Kayaking, windsurfing, and sailing are available at the Marina Water Sports School on the Guardiaro River Estuary. The Maritimo Yacht Club hosts yachting events throughout the year - a popular venue for morning coffee, freshly baked bread, lunches and candle lit dinners. It is 2 mins walk. Also nearby is a doctor's surgery, newsagents and tapas bar. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The house is cleaned prior to arrival and fresh bed linen, towels and beach towels are provided. Additional cleaning and change of bed linen/towels available at extra cost. Other: The dining area is equipped with a tiled Moroccan dining table and six comfortable chairs. Sliding doors separate the kitchen from the dining area. Patio doors from the Kitchen lead to a further outdoor sheltered dining area with teak furniture for 6.

Fantastic property

We stayed in the house for 3 weeks, with a family of 2 adults and 4 kids. The house is in great condition, with tasteful furniture, high quality appliances, good ac, decent wifi and a well equipped kitchen. We were really happy and have no complaints.

The house is well located for the beach club and port.

Coast/Beach:

There is a popular sandy beach within a 3 mins walk of the house. The Rock of Gibraltar can be viewed from the beach. During the summer there are two beach restaurants and water sports facilities providing instruction and boat hire. Sotogrande also boasts 2 beach clubs that provide swimming pools, sun bathing, padel tennis and a restaurant. These clubs provide excellent facilities and entertainment for both children and adults.

Travel:

Airports: Gibraltar 20 minutes, Malaga 60 minutes, Jerez 60 minutes, Seville 110 minutes. Car: Malaga 1 hour, Marbella/Puerto Banus 30 mins. Algeciras Port (Ferry to Tangier/Ceuta) 45 minutes. Access to Puerto Sotogrande (Sotogrande Port) - Exit 133 from AP-7 Malaga to Cadiz. Direct access from N-340. Car hire available from all airports and highly recommended.

Distances:

Torreguadiaro, Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro (shops, banks, restaurants, night clubs) 5 minutes drive. Tarifa, on the Atlantic coast (windsurfing and kite boarding) 45 minutes drive. Gibraltar and the famous 'Rock' (duty free shopping, sightseeing) 20 minutes drive. Also typical Spanish villages within 20 minutes drive and 60 minutes to Ronda. Jerez, the sherry producing area, is well worth a visit and is about an hour's drive. This is also the home of the famous dancing horses.

Further Details:

Sotogrande Port from Ribera del Emperador is a 5 min drive or a twenty minute walk by road or following the edge of the waterway from the marina. Alternatively pack your rollerblades or hire a bicycle. There is a water taxi service operating during the summer between the port and the marina. Visit the vibrant Sunday market at the Blue Sotogrande shopping plaza near the port. There are several restaurants, shops and banks and excellent supermarkets all within 10 minutes drive. There are also numerous other restaurants within the vicinity. Ribera del Emperador is ideally located for many sporting activities and all those listed below are within a 10 minute drive:-

Horse riding at Centro Hipico Stables, Tennis and Padel tennis at the Sotogrande Tennis Club and Octogono Club next the house. Cycling and mountain biking is very popular on the quiet trails in the hills behind the marina.

Health and beauty spas at the Sotogrande sports Club and the Almenara Hotel.

Watch world class polo at one of the Santa Maria Polo grounds.
