Fantastic villa

  • 5 of 5

Our party of 7 adults and 2 young children had a fabulous week in this fantastic villa. The property is even bigger than photos suggested and there was ample space for the senior group members to seek out a peaceful haven on occasion.

The kitchen was immaculate and, by a distance, the best equipped we have encountered over several years of holiday rentals.

The views from the balcony, terrace and pool are breathtaking.

Es Mercadal is a small, traditional town but well-stocked with restaurants and supermarkets. It is ideally located for sightseeing etc as virtually everywhere on the island is within a short drive.

We wouldn't hesitate to book again for a family holiday and were sad to leave.

Special mention must be made of the property manager, Carla, who was there to meet us on arrival and went "above and beyond" on our departure by racing to the airport to reunite a suitcase with a forgetful family member - we'd add an extra star for her fantastic service if we could.

This villa is highly recommended.

Villa is very nice and in a great position

  • 3 of 5

However the pool was freezing cold and top tip don't use the Jacuzzi bath in the main bathroom as you are likely to flood the room below and loose your damage deposit as well as making the ground floor room smell even more of damp than it does when you first arrive

Owner's Response: The facts... Our management team was called out 'serious water leak' our response was to get a member of staff to the villa within 5 mins. Minutes later 2nd call 'its ok now it was the bath'. Our manager had already arrived at the villa to witness two young adults having what can only be described as a water fight in the bathroom. The bath had obviously overflowed causing flooding below and subsequently damaging the ceiling and doors. The jacuzzi bath has been professionally tested without any faults. 'Top Tip' a review to ignore!

Fabulous house

  • 5 of 5

We were a family group of 7 adults and 1 toddler and we stayed at the house for one week.

Everything about our stay was wonderful.

We loved Es Mercadal. It's small, but seems to have loads of bars and restaurants all within walking distance. (Although it's quite a walk up the hill back). They catered very happily for a toddler. The supermarket is great, and has a good gluten free section (Important to us, as was understanding in the restaurants about gluten intolerance).

We rented a tennis court one morning (a 5 minute walk away), and made excellent use of the beautiful pool at the villa.

We hired a car and explored all the nearby beaches. Fornells is only a 10 minute drive away. (Great fish restaurants), and the beach at Arenal d'en Castell was great for kids. Would recommend having a car - even though it's not a necessity. You can walk to the supermarket in 10-15 mins.

As everyone has said in previous comments, the house is great. Very high spec, spotlessly clean and well maintained. It's hard to find villas in Menorca with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms! Our mixed family was very happy with all the space.

We used the lower balcony near the swimming pool during the day as it was lovely and shady, and tended to retire to the upper balcony at night to enjoy the view and watch the stars. There are loads of lovely sun loungers and there's always shade somewhere in the garden, beneath the trees.

It was also great to have a large, air-conditioned lounger during the heat of the day.

We're already planning our next trip.....

Lovely property in a perfect locatation.

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful time in a lovely villa! Only a ten minute walk to the middle of Es Mercadal which has many excellent restaurants, ranging from the open air in the town centre to boutique style in gardens in local houses and even on old windmill, try them all!

5 STAR!!! STUNNING VILLA WITH VIEWS TO MATCH!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful villa once before and had to return again! Its stylish, practical and comfortable. The views are 'to die for' the mountain of 'Monte Torro' and Es Mercadal below.

We find the location peaceful and perfect for exploring this wonderful island.

Es Mercadal is a very traditional and popular spanish village, vibrant with lots to offer with its abundance of busy restaurants (we counted 10), cafes, tapas bars and boutiques.

We just loved the restaurant 'Es Moli' which is inside a charming old windmill.

Already looking forward to our return.

A big thanks to the excellent management team for making us feel at home.

A GREAT TIME HAD BY ALL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this villa from the 16th to the 23rd of July as a family of 10. Myself ,my husband, my eldest daughter her husband with a 2 year old and a 7 month baby and my youngest daughter her husband with a 7 year old and a 3 year old.

We arrived before check in time but Karen was there to meet us and let us deposit our cases while we did our large supermarket shop and went into Mercadal for a bit of lunch.

Turned out we arrived on the weekend of the horse fiesta so very nice to see the village trimmed up and the horses and traditionally dressed riders riding through the streets. Karen warned us that Saturday night might be noisy but as the villa is set overlooking the village and the mountains so it wasn't bad enough to keep us awake.and has a fantastic view of El Toro mountain which is well worth a visit,

The village is not really a holiday resort but the supermarkets have ample goods to supply your needs without travelling far. There are bakeries for fresh bread and lots of little shops. There are a few restaurants and snack bars where you can sit out in the streets and enjoy a drink although we made plenty of use of the barbecue at the villa. Formless and Santa Tomas are bothe within a 15minute drive away and here you can find your traditional Spanish holiday resorts and restaurants. The latter Santa Tomas having lovely beaches and safe bathing,

The villa itself is laid out on 3 floors the basement being fine for older children as it has a TV and DVDs etc to suit the children. However because my grandchildren are quite young they did not want to be so far away from there parents who shared the 3rd floor with us so ended up sleeping on the big settees in the lounge on the 3rd floor, whilst my other daughter used the 1st floor with the kitchen having 2 bedrooms in which to accommodate cots.

The villa is lacking nothing and is kept exceptionally clean and has lots of crockery both pot and plastic which is ideal for children. I was intent on not using the washing machine but found it was very handy for giving the swimwear a quick rinse.

The pool and surrounding gardens are beautiful and sheltered and we were regularly visited by a family of tortoises from large to tiny that inhabit the garden and gave the children much pleasure

Altogether we had a fantastic week and any slight problems we had were soon rectified by Karen.

The only down side was that the single beds on the 2nd and 3rd floors were very hard but for a week we managed.

Location

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

One of the best beachs on the island 'cala galdana' is just a 10-15min drive away. The sheltered cove with gentle sloping sands, crystal clear water and excellent amenities make it a pleasure for all. The beautiful fishing village of 'Fornells' set in a spectacular natural habour famous for its sea food gastronomy is a 10 min drive away.

Travel:

We recommend car hire in order to explore this beautiful island. There are ferry terminals at Mahon and Ciutadella with regular ferrys to barcelona and Majorca. Mahon airport is a 20min drive.

Distances:

The village of Mercadal is a 10 min walk, the capital Mahon and the port 20 mins drive, the historical town of Ciutadella 20 min drive, The picturesque fishing village of Fornells a 10 min drive away.

Further Details:

The typical Menorquin village of Es Mercadal is situated in the heart of the island below the mountain of 'monte toro'. It is a fantastic location to explore this wonderful island or to simply relax. Mercadal offers over 10 restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, 3 supermarkets, chemist, doctors and a theatre. During summer there is a weekly craft market, and often live traditional music in the main square.
