16th century thatched barn at Langdon, Wembury, Plymouth, Devon. - Peaceful Location, 1 Mile From National Trust Beach And South West Coast Path

The barn is a lovely converted thatched stone and lime rendered building located down a private lane in the rural hamlet of Langdon a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, situated in the south west corner of the south hams. The location is perfect for families and couples alike and is only just over a mile from the south west coast path and the national trust beach at wembury. The barn is well furnished and spacious with vaulted ceilings in the large sitting room and bedrooms. The kitchen is well equipped with an adjacent dining area with far reaching views over open countryside. There is a south facing large terrace suitable for alfresco dining as well as various seating areas around the garden. The Langdon court hotel with its fine dining and friendly bar is less than a 5 minute walk away.

About Mr and Mrs M Bourne

We are now retired and live in The Barn in Devon with our six year old Border Terrier.

We have many interests including walking all the wonderful paths leading from our front door. The Theatre in Plymouth has a full programme throughout the year and we find the Barn is ideally located for both country and city pursuits.

We want to spend six months of the year traveling so our lovely Barn will be free for others to enjoy.

Mr and Mrs M Bourne purchased this barn in 2001

Why Mr and Mrs M Bourne chose South Hams

We love this part of the South Hams because it is almost completely undiscovered by many tourists. The Barn is hidden away down a private lane and enjoys lovely views from every aspect. The walks from the front door take you for miles, whether it is the South West Coast path or rural walks across miles of farm and woodland. Although the Barn is set in beautiful countryside it is only six miles from the centre of Plymouth. The Barbican area of the city where you can spend a pleasant time in the bars and restaurants can be reached either by road or ferry from nearby Mount Batten. There are some very good pubs and restaurants close to hand and the Langdon Court Hotel with its excellent bar and restaurant is literally only a very short walk away. This is a lovely area to explore.

The Barn has a wonderful ambience and is ideal for families and couples.. There is plenty of space both inside and out so no need to get under each others feet!

What a wonderful house! beautifully furnished-could hardly get out of the bed it was so comfy! lovely walks to the beach at Wembury and close enough to travel around by car when it was raining. Stunning countryside all around. Can't wait to come back.

Absolute heaven!!!

The property was even better than described, so well equipped, We all loved preparing meals in the spacious kitchen. The living room allowed us all to have a sofa each and still plenty of room for the dog to sleep on the floor. The garden and views were spectacular, we all said we would definitely revisit .

Amazing barn

Wonderful stay here for a week. The Barn was spacious, yet cosy. It seem to have everything you need in the barn for a really relaxing stay. The grounds and local area were a delight and very quiet and the BBQ was an added bonus. Wembury beach was amazing and a mile down the road. Friends and I have now decided this is our go to place for Devon!!

Beautiful barn in stunning location

We had an amazing relaxing & fun filled time at the Barn.

It caters for all your needs & has a tranquil feel to it.

Marilyn & Mike are extremely helpful if you need anything.

Lots of beautiful beaches, woodland walks & great places to visit all nearby.

We will definately come back & have told all our friends & family about it

Lovely accomodation

Really nice, clean and well proportioned house. It was great as we have twin 5 month olds so we could stay in the rooms upstairs with them while my parents were downstairs. They didn't hear a thing.

Everything you might need and a nice outside area with a beautiful view for when the suns out.

Only draw back was the walks from the barn went straight into woods, tight roads or steep slopes so quite hard work with a double buggie.

Stunning family property in delightful location

From the moment that we enquired about booking The Barn, our experience could not have been better. The owners were attentive and helpful in every detail: including wine and flowers to greet us on arrival! Even the gorgeous photograph does not pay full homage to The Barn: its architectural and historic beauty, set in stunning countryside and lovely grounds. Inside we found everything we possibly could have needed, plus a great deal more. The décor is luxurious yet practical and welcoming; the space is extensive (even for a party of six, including children); and the ambience was just perfect for a family gathering. In its location, within the truly stunning South Hams, provided access to numerous, diverse environments: dozens of clean beaches, quintessential countryside and Dartmoor, with many tiny villages and old-world pubs. We have committed to rebooking The Barn as soon as we can muster (long distance from the Highlands of Scotland!) and whole-heartedly recommend it to others. Absolutely beautiful property inside and out in a lovely position.

Had a wonderful time at The Barn, explore South Devon and Cornwall and a short walk to the coast too. The Barn is of a very high standard, with very good quality beds and bedding etc. Visited for Easter and the kids were thrilled to be given Easter eggs on arrival. Fabulous views from the property. Highly recommended and we will definitely visit again, perfect property. A hidden gem.

Notes on accommodation: Suitable for children (cot and high chair available), not suitable for disabled. We have a strict non-smoking policy in the house. Well behaved pets are welcome. There is a self contained apartment in the basement of the property but it is not used as holiday accommodation, but can be occupied by one person on occasions. There is a large garage which can be used to dry wet suits and store bikes and boards etc. whilst on holiday. Basic starter cleaning materials such as dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid is supplied. There are two ornamental ponds in the grounds that are covered with safety grills, and there are some steep banks within the garden, please note guests with small children. Outside: There is a terraced area with a gas barbecue, wooden table and seating for eight people. There is a separate seating area within the garden and benches located in various areas to take advantage of the views and sun at different times of the day. There are two ornamental ponds which are covered with a security grill. There is a large lawned area surrounded by farmland. A private pathway leads through the garden and nearby woodland down to the beach. Utility Room: Washing machine, ironing board, steam iron, vacuum cleaner etc. Outside drying area. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedding, bedlinen, towels (not beach) & Laundry Included. Guests to provide linen for bed settee. Changeover clean included. Starter cleaning materials are provided. Barbeque clean not included a £20 charge deducted if not left usable for next guest. Other: Dining room down two steps from the kitchen with two pairs of french doors with views overlooking the garden and hills beyond. Dining table for 8, sideboard, Freeview TV, CD etc. There are games and books provided.
