About Sam Cash

Francophile and former TV executive-turned-chef, I first bought the house as a wreck back in 2001. After 4 fraught but rewarding years, La Bomba was finally habitable and fit for guests in the summer of 2005.

The following year my wife and I got married in the village church and we held the reception in the house and grounds. Without a doubt the happiest day of my life and you can see some photos on the website - details below.

After 15 years in London we now live in the bustling port city of Las Palms in the Canary Islands where we run a catering business.

Sam Cash purchased this farmhouse in 2001

Why Sam Cash chose Saint-Paulet

I fell in love with the area when visiting my sister who was living there for a few months on an exchange back in 2001. The area is known locally as the Lauragais and it is a truly undiscovered gem of a region.

Fantastically fertile, in the summer it is a riot of colour with wonderful vistas of sunflowers, wheat, and poppies in every direction. Though there's masses of good wine produced locally (Minervois, Corbieres, Fitou) the soil of the Lauragais is far too good for grapes!

If there's one thing lacking it is immediate proximity to the sea but there's a fantastic pool at the property and there's even a beach just 15 minutes away at Lac Saint Ferreol.

Once you've come once you will want to come again and again. It is one of the most delightful spots on earth.

Notes on accommodation: This is a really substantial house offering very spacious accommodation. It's ideal for two families or a large group of friends and yet everyone can still find their own 'special' place. The beamed grand salon is the focus point where everyone can relax and eat as a group. There's also alfresco dining for 12 on the terrace and a further dining room where 8 can eat comfortably. Every bedroom is generously sized and no guest would ever feel they have got the duff room! The house sleeps 12 adults and there are two cots. Outside: The pool is 12m x 6m and has Roman tonic steps. There is a traditional Lauragais barbecue and the crunchy drive is perfect for a game of petanque. The garden is large and has been home to many a fiercely-fought badminton tournament. The new outside dining terrace with seating for 12 is an outstanding feature. It is shaded by an ironwork pergola, now home to climbing roses and fragrant jasmine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included in the price - but do bring your own beach towels. The house is cleaned before your arrival and linen is changed at 'half-time' for those staying for a fortnight.

Great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We chose this for our 30th wedding anniversary celebration, we had a party of 11 people ranging from 1 to 60, on arrival we were amazed at the stunning approach to the property which can be seen from the village on the hill, the house is amazing, the younger members loved the snug, the grand salon was impressive and we enjoyed many an evening with everyone playing cards, games etc.The children especially enjoyed the table tennis. The pool is awesome and even in late May to early June was very warm. We barbecued most evenings and the outdoor dining area accommodated all of us easily. The bedrooms were huge and each one unique. We would have no hesitation in recommending this as an ideal family holiday.

Stunning French farmhouse with gorgeous pool.

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous farm house that is beautifully decorated and with stunning gardens. We loved the roses, the pool, the sun loungers, the shutters - in fact everything. When we stayed the surrounding fields were full of sunflowers. Inside it is beautifully designed, with views from every window. We particularly liked the table tennis table. Great idea. Nearby there was lots to do - there were some very good markets nearby. The house was so lovely we didn't make it to nearby Carcassone. Next time we will! Lovely local walks too! I would love to come back with my mum and step-dad (there are downstairs bedrooms and they are all quite spread out, so it feels very private). The owner, Sam, was very charming and full of good local knowledge. 10/10. Perfection!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words, Lucy. It was a pleasure having you and your lovely family to stay at La Bomba. Carcassonne is a great day out but best visited on a week-day when the crowds are less intense. Looking forward to welcoming you to the house another year!

Pretty close to perfect.

  • 5 of 5

La Bomba is the kind of place you're reluctant to review honestly in case it leads to the place being booked up next time you want to visit. Perfectly positioned on the edge of a sleepy Lauragais village, if the temptations of nearby markets and vineyards weren't so great it would been easy to stray no further than a few yards from the swimming pool for the duration of our stay. The fields of sunflowers flanking the farmhouse leave you wondering whether you've woken up in the middle of a picture postcard.

Attractive and very well restored farmhouse

  • 4 of 5

We were delighted to find the property, delivered on everything promised. The restoration has been done well, with quality workmanship and many stylish features. The Salon is an amazing room with ample space for even the largest party. Bedrooms locations are a little quirky, due to the size/shape of the property, but this adds to its charm and affords privacy, when needed. Two bedrooms are accessed via a spiral staircase. Outside the garden is large and well designed, the highlight being the fabulous pool. Plenty of space and options for alfresco dining, weather permitting and even inside the dining arrangements were ideal for our party. La Bomba's rural location makes it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city living. We enjoyed mixed weather during our stay, but did choose not to travel in peak season. The house was spotlessly clean on arrival and the owner even emailed to check that all was well. There are plenty of places to visit locally and we especially enjoyed the river walk. A second week would have been even better!

Absolutely Delightful

  • 5 of 5

What can I say? We had a brilliant time at La Bomba. It was the best experience we’ve had in 10 years of booking villas across Europe. From first enquiry to our last day, Sam was on hand to help out and advise on everything. It’s a big house suitable for two or three families. We were 2 families with 8 children and they weren’t bored for a minute. The swimming pool is bigger than normal for villas like this, there is a table tennis table, a boules set and even a basketball hoop. The kitchen is excellent for preparing big meals in. There’s a side kitchen off the main kitchen with an extra dishwasher (complete lifesaver) and second fridge. Bedrooms were clean and tidy and a good size too. Possibly our favourite thing was the walking near the house. We found a path that runs along a stream all the way to a lake and a great restaurant where we ate 4 times! I would definitely recommend this property if you’re looking a for a villa suitable for big families.

  • 5 of 5

La Bomba is a beautiful property set in a very peaceful part of the French countryside. Our party was 7 adults and a Scottie dog ! and we all had a great time. Plenty of long walks to enjoy and the property has plenty of space to relax around the pool and outside areas.

Sam, the owner was really helpfull with lots of tips on places to visit and would defiantly recommend to friends.
