Charming Independent Cottage Set In A Beautiful Garden

Updated: 14-Sep-2016
Cottage near Chatillon Sur Indre, Loire Valley / Centre, France - Peaceful, Country Location

Les Deux Platanes is a very well-appointed country cottage, immaculately maintained with high quality fixtures and fittings. We aim to exceed your expectations in offering a holiday cottage that provides a very memorable and relaxing environment from day one. If you are looking for a tranquil, restful and stress free stay, a warm welcome awaits you in this traditional Berry cottage. The cottage is situated just south of Chatillon sur Indre in the quiet hamlet of Le Breuil aux Gittons but only minutes from excellent shops. The cottage has been fully renovated but retains many of the features seen in the original building. There are 2 large, charming bedrooms, one with additional direct access to the south facing terrace (blue room). We can also provide facilities for a baby. The main door leads to the comfortable and relaxing salon which is equipped with CD and DVD players with full ‘home cinema’. There are books, regional guides and games available. The cottage has a lovely patio terrace for relaxing at any time. The beautiful enclosed garden is a real 'sun trap', and the 2 mature plane trees provide wonderful shade and are ideal for relaxing under with your favourite book and perhaps a glass of wine in the evening.

Further extensive details, past guest reviews and information can be found on owners website, search on Google under Les Deux Platanes

About the Owner

We are John and Maureen and have been visiting France for more than 40 years. The central area of France is often overlooked by tourists, the roads are very quiet and the prices in cafes and restaurants are sensible in comparison to some areas of France. Time here is slow and the past respected, we love the local people who enjoy the fruits of the earth and the fresh country air. We have used our vast experience to provide accommodation that is of a very high standard to give you a stress free, enjoyable vacation. Once settled into the gite we leave you to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, but are available should you require guidance or assistance.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'I genuinely don't think I have enjoyed a holiday more. Your gite is beautifully renovated, spotlessly clean and tremendously well equipped. So much to do and an idyllic place to stay home.

"We have had a very enjoyable an relaxed holiday with super weather and very genial hosts. It will be remembered by us as a haven of peace."

"The gite is incredibly well equipped and was a very warm and comfortable home for us for the week. We particularly liked the DVD collection and Maureen's cooking. I would just like to say thank you for making 'quality' one of your many hallmarks. Your gite is superbly presented, our arrival felt as though we were entering into a Disney fairy tale! The garden, the flowers, the décor, the colour scheme, everything blends to create a lovely oasis of rest for the world weary travellers. Our only regret is that we were not staying for two weeks."

Jonny & Louise (London and Northern Ireland)

"We have had a lovely relaxing stay in what is probably the best presented gite we have ever stayed in over the last 15 years. Maureen and John have been the perfect hosts."

The perfect gite!

  • 5 of 5

Les Deux Platanes was definitely the prettiest, the most well-equipped and the cleanest gite we have ever stayed in. The garden was also immaculate and we spent every evening sitting outside using the BBQ. Maureen and John were the perfect hosts giving us tips as to where to visit, booking a restaurant for our first night, and also cooking a lovely meal for us on our last night. They were a mine of information but were also very mindful of our privacy. We particularly enjoyed aperitifs with them and chatting non-stop for a couple of hours! Everything we needed was available in the gite from the selection of fresh and dried herbs to the bathrobes and slippers. We would thoroughly recommend Les Deux Platanes to anyone wanting a relaxed holiday travelling around the local villages and markets.

Perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The property is very pretty and exceptionally comfortable . From the moment we arrived to when we left Maureen was very accommodating even sourcing some extra bikes for us ( we didn't use due to inclement weather ) every thing needed was provided . We even sampled Maureen's cooking on a couple of occasions very tasty and well worth doing . The washing up was even taken away and crockery returned .

We found plenty to do with lots of information in the cottage to help plan the days . We enjoyed visiting the Loire chateau s and we had a good day in the Brenne national park we even saw a vcc

Our lovely holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely relaxing holiday, we were so lucky with the weather, sunny and warm and dry. Visiting the local places of interest and of course the wine tasting was a real treat. We have recommended the property to many of our family and friends, and not forgetting John and Maureen they were perfect hosts, caring and very helpful. We hope to visit again soon.

Owner's Response: Spring is a lovely time here in central France, and as it's less busy, you have lots of space when visiting places. We were very happy your stay was so memorable and we look forward to seeing you again.

Fab Week in France

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely Gite in a lovely part of France, Maureen and John were excellent hosts from start to finish nothing was too much trouble they even offered the use of their barn when we had friends for lunch and the weather wasn't good.

We were invited to the Mechoui on the first evening at the Gite and had a lovely time.

We would strongly recommend this Gite for families, we have 2 teenagers who thoroughly enjoyed our week, our only regret is that we didn't stay for 2 weeks, will definitely be back in future.

Thanks very much to Maureen and John who helped make our stay memorable.

From the Owner

We have been visiting this area of France for forty years and consider ourselves fortunate to have found such a quiet yet interesting part of France to live in. The roads are reminiscent of those in the UK 50 years ago - you can travel for miles without seeing another car! The life in central France is quiet and relaxed - it is very rural here and the people are friendly and very willing to help each other.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

The area is of great interest to birdwatchers and photographers with the Brenne regional park a short drive away. This is also popular with off road cyclists and walkers who explore the many marked routes through the countryside. We can also offer tours of the vineyards (with or without a guide) including a great four course lunch with wine (details on owner's website). France is far from expensive if you know where to look. We can even help you bottle your own wine that costs as little as 27 euros for 10 litres, selected from the vineyard – and it’s very good! The area is full of history from the resting place of Henry II and his family (Fontevreau), to the beautiful Chateaux and much more.

Many of the local lakes have sandy beaches and some have excellent facilities with swimming and beach facilities, boat hire etc. Excellent swimming pools locally.

Nearest airports Tours 65km, Limoges (approx 1 3/4 hours drive). Low cost airlines regularly fly in to Tours and Limoges from various locations in the UK and Ireland

Car hire available at airports.

Nearest channel ports Caen 380km and Le Havre 380km (approx 4 hours drive). Calais 330miles. Car essential.

Further Details:

The local town has all commerce you require; large well stocked supermarkets, newsagent, hairdressers, post office, chemists, banks and wonderful bakers. Bar/tabac and a restaurant/bar.

There are some excellent restaurants in the area - including the reasonably priced Michelin star ' La Promenade' in Le Petit Pressigny about 25 minutes away. Brilliant range of markets in all the local towns, the beautiful Chateaux of the Loire and Futuroscope national attraction within an easy drive.
