About the property

Holiday Home in Cawsand, Nr. Kingsand, Cornwall, England - Detached Chalet With Stunning Sea Views Within A Charming Cornish Coastal Village

Cornwall’s forgotten corner. The twin seaside villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, on the Rame peninsula are great for relaxing and enjoying a memorable holiday. The chalet has a magnificent view over the sea towards the hills of Dartmoor - probably the best view in the village. The area has a great deal to offer and a week could easily be lost exploring the charming streets, walking the coastline, relaxing on the beach. Walkers are spoilt for choice and can pick up the South West Coast Path in both directions. Mount Edgcumbe’s country park starts at the top of the village and you can walk to the famous 16th century house and visit its beautiful gardens. Locally, there are five pubs, three coffee shops and a choice of places to eat in the evening. It is ideal for a relaxing romantic break.

Idyllic Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Crow's Nest in Kingsand for one week and could not have wished for a better place to holiday. Tucked away in a secluded yet central location, the chalet boasts fantastic views looking out over the water; a perfect setting. The Crow's Nest had everything necessary to make our stay a comfortable one. It is perfect for couples and serves as a great base in which to explore the local villages of Kingsand and Cawsand in addition to walking along the SW Coastal Path or journeys further afield to Plymouth or into Cornwall.

We would highly recommend The Crow's Nest to anyone looking to stay in a quiet corner of Cornwall!

Excellent location and stunning views

  • 4 of 5

Crows nest is situated partway down Duck Steps and, being on a hill, has stunning views across Plymouth Sound. 60 or so steps down leads to the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand with cafes, a shop, Post Office, gift shop, art gallery and a fantastic shop that sells ice cream with clotted cream, pasties, baguettes and fish and chips. Both villages have beaches and access to the South West Coast path. Access to the chalet by car is from the top of the steps (another 25 or so!) where there are double yellow lines but it is possible to park briefly while unpacking. Parking is in public car parks close by or there are some free spaces nearby too. This was no problem in October but I imagine it would be harder in the summer. We did so much walking around here as we were blessed with mild and fairly dry weather. We took the ferry across to Plymouth in the aftermath of Storrn Brian and after exploring Plymouth we walked around to the Cremyll ferry back to Cremyll and caught the local bus back to Kingsand. The chalet itself is small but has most things a couple will need. The only drawbacks are that the TV is in the bedroom which meant we watched TV in the lounge on the laptop and there is no storage for clothes or for food. In addition the bathroom wash basin is so small it is impossible to wash without splashing the mirror behind. The large mirrors in the bathroom were a bit off putting at first. A box of leaflets of walks etc would be useful as well as information on what to do with recycling/rubbish etc. There is a large decking area with some undercover which means we sat outside undercover. There is also a sunbathing area below which is private. The chalet is so quiet and private, with the occasional person passing behind the high wall puffing up the steps. All in all a great place.

Amazing view, cosy, but a bit dirty

  • 4 of 5

A bit more effort in keeping it clean and intact (bathroom floor) and it would become a perfect place! The view is amazing. After cleaning some things ourselves (f.e. spilled milk in the fridge and cobwebs between the plates), we had a cosy nest and even the steps weren't that bad. We really enjoyed our stay!

Stunning views and lovely little cabin

  • 4 of 5

Loved our week in June 2017 at the Crows nest. The views from the balcony are stunning and we had great weather as well. Couple of small niggles, there is very little storage for your clothes and no TV in the lounge, we would suggest a chest of drawers in the lounge area with the TV on top (rather than having it on the wall in the bedroom). Also the information folder needs to be updated and a customer feedback book would be useful for Nick and also the guests that stay. Other than that it was a very nice place to stay and very well fitted out with everything you need. Thanks Nick

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing view from this little sheltered gem.

You will not know or believe you essentially are staying in someone's back garden.

The property is also very well designed with views from the bedroom and living room, you can even sit under cover outside should it rain.

Beautiful, perfect setting, a secret escape!

  • 4 of 5

Crow Nest Cottage is a lovely hideaway chalet, it had everything we needed, tucked away but close to all of Kingsand and Cawsand with a choice of 5 pubs/restaurants very close by, our favourites were The Devonport and The Halfway House, we would highly recommend the cottage for a couple who want to enjoy the lovely scenery and the plenty of walks but beware Duck steps have 97 steps and the cottage is tucked away in the middle of these steps, so there's no avoiding them!

Village beaches
Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

We are a couple of minutes walk to the beach, close enough to sometimes hear the waves at high tide. The beaches are clean, with clear water, sand and rock pools. If you are prepared to walk for half an hour there are the stunning white beaches of Whitsand Bay which are the other side of this headland.

Travel:

In the summer months a small foot passenger ferry takes people to and from Plymouth which is about a half hour trip. If you are coming by train then it is quite a nice way to arrive. The closest airport is Plymouth and then Exeter which is one and a half hours away and there are cross channel ferries which go to France and Spain.

Distances:

We are within the village with all amenities. Plymouth although close as the crow flies takes about 45 minutes by car or you can take the beach ferry from Cawsand that runs from April to October except in strong winds. This will take you to the historic Barbican area from where the Mayflower set sail to America.
