Les lavandes (sleeps 4/6. 2 bedrooms). This is the central house, closest to the pool. It is the perfect family accommodation especially for people with teenage children, as the cabanon can be let with Les Lavandes as an extra bedroom, giving older children a certain independence. It is set amongst terraces of olive trees, rosemary and thyme, with the pool as a central meeting place. Les Lavendres is comfortable without pretension, well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine and WIFI. When all the houses are being used together, people often eat and meet here. It has a bedroom with a large double bed. In the living room, there are two built-in sofa beds on either side of the fireplace, which are used during the day as sofas, and as beds in summer when living is outside. The terrace, with its shady pergola, has a lovely view south toward the village. Like all the houses every window has mosquito netting for summer time. There is wifi throughout the property.
La Daby is a magical, tranquil, and fun place to have a holiday. The houses can be rented separately, as they have their own terraces and privacy surrounded by pine trees; or rented together. This works well if you are a group of families or friends. You benefit from being together by the pool and for delicious meals at each others’ houses, while also having your own space. Each house has all the modcons, with a dishwasher in each, so meals looking over the surrounding landscape, are a pleasure. With heating and open fires, la Daby welcomes guests all year round. The seclusion and serenity is great for couples wanting a romantic getaway in La Tour, or a family needing a blue-sky Easter break. Bandol has the best wine in the region and is only 10 km away, offering beaches, night life, fun for kids, and delicious sea food. Hiking, riding, climbing, playing tennis - or golf at the beautiful le Frigate - all close by, and there is some of the best climbing in southern Europe.
This is our family holiday home and we love it here. It belongs to four Burrills: Rebecca – a drama teacher who has two teenage children, Jemima – an artist – with two small daughters, Joshua – a radiologist, and Tabitha – a film production accountant who has one baby daughter. Santa – the Mum and the manager - is an architect and coach. We all work with a lovely local team who help look after our wonderful place.
Nearly forty years ago, we decided to find a place abroad – in France because of the food, wine, language and proximity. We decided on the 'Midi' because of the weather; and the Bandol area as it is near the sea and an airport, has wonderful countryside, nice people and the best rose anywhere.
We found our exceptional 5 acres of land, and built a house for each of our children, with a pool in the middle. As an architect, I used the local way of designing buildings with tiled roofs, stucco walls and shuttered windows. All school holidays were spent there, and whether using the houses together, or separately, it works amazingly well, providing togetherness and space to breathe. Being able to breakfast apart, is something we never stop appreciating!
The summers were full of excitement with dances almost every night in one of the local villages, and endless different events including St Eloi, Provencal dancing in the village square, and artisanal markets in the evenings at Bandol. We spend our days sailing, windsurfing, digging sand castles on the sandy beach, rock climbing at Port d'Alon; or just jumping in and out of the pool all day. The joy of winter is being outside, with bright blue sky and lunch outside with a BBQ. Whether making bonfires, or watching fireworks at Sanary, there is always fun to be had in some form.
In the Spring wild flowers across the ancient terraces, dotted with olive trees, make it an ideal retreat at this time of year. The food is fabulous: wood fired pizza, fish, cheese, and the best apricots and figs.

This place is amazing! Five acres of forest with five dwellings/ gites dotted about, with a beautiful pool, surrounded by cyprus trees and a very gorgeous mulberry tree which provided daily pickings! Apparently the owners’ parents bought the land 40 years ago (mum was an architect) and over time designed and built a house for each of their children. They have created somewhere truly special and we feel lucky to have experienced it. We have had such a wonderful holiday here. My husband and I arrived with two small children, feeling very stressed; and leave feeling relaxed and happy with so many wonderful memories…. opening the shutters each morning to beautiful sunshine and stunning forest views; early morning swims with the sun peeping through the trees; gorgeous family mealtimes at the large outdoor table with far too much (delicious) rose, the kids off exploring in the forest, happy and free. Les Lavendes is a one bed cottage but cleverly designed so that you can use the living room as a second bedroom; and you can still get to the main bedroom, bathroom and kitchen without disturbing sleeping children in the lounge. The gites are rustic French (delightfully so)… quite basic but very comfortable, with lovely art on the walls, and everything you need. Being in the middle of the forest you have to be ok with the odd creepy crawly but this certainly wasn’t a problem for us. The lovely town of Le Beausset is just a couple of minutes away in the car with a typical French town square and great market. There are also some lovely beaches nearby. We definitely want to return and would possibly look to come back with friends or family and rent Laurier and Cabanon as well as Lavendes.
We have visited this wonderful property a few times and have never been disappointed. Although, the accommodation is not grand, it has everything you need and is always spotless. The setting is beautiful and secluded with terraced olive groves and a pine surrounded pool. We didn't really want to venture far but loved the busy seaside town of Bandol with all it's Bars and shops and there are plenty of beaches to choose from and a friend had told us about the market in Toulon which was amazing and very good value. We ate like kings and the local Rose is cheap and delicious. We would highly recommend this property, it had everything that Provence offers and we really did not want to leave!
We enjoyed staying at Les Lavandes so much we stayed once in the summer and again in the late autumn. Les Lavandes is one of a small number of cottages surrounded by lovely terraced woodland and sharing a good-sized pool. The interior is cosy, comfortable and has some nice extras like a bidet and well-placed mirrors. Note there is no TV but we did not miss it because we had our laptops and Netflix etc. Les Lavandes has a south-facing patio and is the closest of cottages to the pool. But another great benefit is that Le Beausset is within very easy reach of the coast so we made regular trips to Bandol and Cassis when we fancied some seafood and shopping. We have visited the South of France for many years and have tended to stay inland because we could not get the comfort near the sea at the price we were prepared to pay. Les Lavandes is the perfect compromise-rural, affordable yet not far from the coast. We really liked it and will probably stay there a third time.
