About the Owner

I'm 55 years old and live in Yorkshire with my husband Geoff and our Chocolate labrador called Coco who we adore. We have 5 holiday properties all next to each other which can be rented separately or all together. Our original property, the Piggery was built in 1821 and has been painstakingly renovated. Our other cottages and retreats are now 4 years old and proved to be a labour of love, hard work and sheer determination. We have exceptionally high standards which shows in the quality of interiors and the cleanliness. The comfort and enjoyment of our guests are our main concern - our guest comments are proof of this. These are really very special properties - ideal for friends and family to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The icing on the cake are the stunning views from all properties over the Eskdale Valley.

Fantastic weekend with the family tucked away in this gorgeous cottage. Every little thing you could think of. I would recommend a visit no matter the English weather, we did everything from wet walks, to dvd's, board games to fish and chips with a bottle of wine. Looking forward to booking again

What a discovery

  • 5 of 5

Luxury cottage in fabulous village with spectacular views. Magnificent moorland walks and coastal walks and picnics on beaches and great foodie pubs. Totally relaxing and dog friendly - a new discovery for us and we will be back for certain. The quality of the cottage felt like we were staying in a five star hotel - couldn't improve on anything.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Newcastle at 50 Miles Nearest Train : Sleights station at 1 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Fish and Chip Restaurant at 1 Miles Nearest Beach : Sandsend at 3 Miles Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

Ideal for keen walkers as there are dozens of walks to waterfalls, moorland and coast from your doorstep. Complimentary Hunters wellies and brollies are provided for days when the weather is snowy or wet. Walk from the doorstep of the cottage onto the North Yorkshire Moors and follow paths to waterfalls or just soak up the view ! The ancient city of York is only 40 mins away with its cobbled streets and Minster. Picturesque coastal villages are within a few minutes drive away

The setting is peaceful and feels like you are away from it all, yet you are handy for Whitby (3 miles). Other beaches like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are only a short drive away. We are close to local tourist attractions such as Goathland ( "Heartbeat country") and Grosmont where you can catch the steam train of a bygone era. You feel like you are far from the madding crowd but can be amongst it in no time at all.

Coast/Beach:

The Yorkshire coastline is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the trimmings of yesteryear this is proper bucket and spade territory. Take a stroll along the beach from Sandsend and Whitby which is only a 10 minute drive away or follow the old monks trod paths and walk direct from the cottages/retreats in 1 hour.

Travel:

Leeds Bradford airport is 1 hour away. Newcastle airport 1 hour away. There is a train station in Sleights which is a 10 minute walk away.

Distances:

York 40 miles. Scarborough 20 miles. Whitby 3 miles.

Castle Howard, 25 miles

Further Details:

There is a bakers, butchers/deli (renowned in the area as the best), post office, local convenience store, restaurants and 2 pubs which are all within easy walking distance and plenty of gastro pubs, fine dining only a short drive away. Our bespoke Guest Information provides plenty of recommendations.

Many of our guests are happy to 'stay in' and soak up the amazing views from the balcony, watching the deer in the field below and the steam train puffing along into Whitby....
