About Melanie Byrne

We are Gary and Mel, an english married couple with 2 young children. We decided to move to Spain 2 1/2 years ago to live near the childrens grandmother.

It was purely by luck that we began The Olive Branch Bed and Breakfast!

Gary was due to have a building job which fell through, The Olive Branch property was empty and not a working establishment so we decided to try it as a B&B.

We then discovered that El Chorro is a world famous climbing destination from a Canadian couple that we met. They educated us on the area, helped us get on the internet and into the climbing world and we haven't looked back since!

We love living here, its stunning scenery and the weather is beautiful! If you stay with us we will welcome you in to our special, welcoming family home that you won't forget.

Melanie Byrne purchased this guest house in 2008

Why Melanie Byrne chose Álora

We live here at the Olive Branch and we pride ourselves on taking care of our guests to provide a unique, friendly, ´feels like family´ experience!

What makes this guest house unique

The views from our house are beautiful, you can see the mountain range behind us or the spectacular view of El Chorro valley from our terrace and the guest bedrooms 4 and 5.

Fabulous Bed & Breakfast Accommodation and Service

  • 5 of 5

Our family has just returned from a terrific week staying at The Olive Branch in El Chorro. Whilst we are not (yet) climbers, all four of our daughters and my wife climbed 3 or more climbs which were superbly set up by the very qualified and expert climbing instructor Tom. In August as it is so very hot 35-42C we climbed in the evening or on a North face in the morning. The scenery is stunning and quite like a mini grand canyon. We tucked into a daily breakfast of just about all options so everyone could eat a lot of something they liked and then got ready for fun! The shared kitchen & dining area is very clean and well equipped and Mel, Gary and their team really (including top chef Roy) do make it a very warm and friendly experience. Dining is optional and when we did it was delicious. There are many activities in the area including beautiful lakes for swimming, kayaking etc and horse riding; in addition there is mountain biking, paragliding, quad biking near by. You can fly to Malaga (or Seville) and either rent a car or take the cheap but very modern train to El Chorro station- So this area and B&B are not just for climbing, it was a really great family holiday for sun, swimming and a wide choice of activities and very good value too. Our kids ranged between 8 and 17. Go there!
