About the property

Peaceful Location In Central Florence. Private Garden. Air Conditioning. Free Wifi

Villa Bastioni is a beautiful 3 bed villa located on a quiet residential street in Central Florence. The private garden is a wonderful quiet space to enjoy a spot of breakfast in the morning, or to come back to after a days sightseeing. There is parking at the front of the property if visitors have a car (although it is not necessary to hire one). Satellite TV. Air Conditioning. Free WIFI. The property is within easy walking distance of Florence's most important museums and monuments. Located on a hill slope near the Piazzale Michelangelo, it is just a 20 minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery, 25 minutes from Il Duomo and 15 minutes from Santa Croce. The property has plenty of charm and character and has been decorated beautifully.

About Jo Mackay

I am a mother with 2 young children, age 9 & 12 and a very busy husband! I gave up work with Procter and Gamble 9 years ago to spend time at home with the children. I have loved being able to spend so much time with them. However, with both children now at school, I was keen to start working again. I initially enjoyed managing two of our own holiday properties in the Italian Lakes which we bought in 2008 and 2009 following our first visit to the area in 2007. However, I have now started to manage holiday homes for others, not just in the Italian Lakes, but elsewhere in Italy through my website - I carefully select each property and ensure that I maintain that personal but professional service level that I believe holidaymakers are looking for.

Jo Mackay purchased this villa in 2011

Why Jo Mackay chose Florence

Florence is a fantastic city and one which I particularly like 'off season'. There is so much to see and do in the city. I would recommend anyone planning a visit to take a look at the city's website.

What makes this villa unique

This is a wonderful, good sized, 3 bedroom property in a fantastic location. It's in a lovely quiet residential area but all the major attractions are only a 20-25 minute walk away. There are plenty of great bars and restaurants within walking distance too so no need to get a taxi home after a few drinks! The fact that the property has it's own garden is a real bonus too particularly in the Spring and Summer months, where it's great to have breakfast under the gazebo, or an aperitif before heading out for the evening.

Special interest holidays:

We can arrange a number of additional services for guests such as trips to local vineyards for wine tasting, cheese tasting, or a tour of local olive groves. Cookery courses (from a couple of hours to full days) can also be arranged at a beautiful venue just 10 km outside the city. Guided tours, from tours of the city to tours of the outlet malls, can also be arranged. Please ask for more details or let us know what your special requests are and we will do our best to tailor a programme suited to your individual needs.

Coast/Beach:

The coast is just over an hours drive away if you want to spend a day on the beach. One of the best towns on the coast, Viareggio, which is also Tusancy's biggest seaside resort, is about a 90 minute drive. Viareggio has an air of elegance afforded by the long avenue of palms that run the length of its promenade and is worth a visit. The seaside resorts north from Viareggio to Forte dei Marmi are certainly popular with the wealthy Florentines who like to spend their summer holidays there.

Travel:

The nearest airport is in Florence. However, flights often tend to be cheaper to Pisa which is only an hour and a quarter away by car. A cheap bus service (10 euros one way) connects Pisa airport to the heart of the city of Florence where it stops at the centrally located Santa Maria Novella train station. It's then a 20 minute walk to the property or you can hire a taxi. Car hire is not needed but there is parking outside the property if you do need somewhere to park a car.

Distances:

All the main museums and attractions in Florence (Il Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, Santa Maria Novella etc) are within walking a few minutes walk of the property. There are a whole host of bars and restaurants within walking distance too, and, of course, plenty of shops to enjoy!

Further Details:

Florence is an absolutely wonderful city to visit at any time of year. Visitors shouldn't miss the Piazza del Duomo, the Bargello, the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi, Santa Maria Novella, San Lorenzo, San Miniato al Monte, Palazzo Pitti, Santa Croce and Santa maria del Carmine. Once you've visited all the historic sites of Florence, make sure you put a bit of time aside for some shopping too. Florence boats numerous street markets allowing visitors to immerse themselves in local culture whilst finding a bargain or two along the way. One of the liveliest is the San Lorenzo market (daily except Sundays) whilst in Santa Croce, you'll find the best farmers market in town (7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mon-Sat). In this area, you can also find a flea market near Piazza Delle Pulci whilst more serious antique shoppers should head to visit Piazza San Spirito on the 2nd Sunday of every month. The shops in the centre of Florence are also fantastic, but for those visitors looking for serious bargains, Florence boasts a couple of excellent outlet malls including The Mall Outlet and the Baberini Designer Outlet (www.themall.it and www.mcarthurglen.it), both just 30 minutes outside the city. The city also has some excellent restaurants, clubs and cafe bars. The restaurants range from ultra modern to extremely traditional and both come highly recommended! If you want to use Florence as a base to explore other Italian cities, Siena is about 45 minutes away and you can get there either via bus or train. The bus tends to be quicker and cheaper though. (www.sena.it). Pisa is an hour by bus and Rome is just over 90 minutes away by Eurostar train. Closer to home, there is some beautiful countryside around Florence. We can arrange visits to local vineyards to sample the wines, cheese tasting or visits to olive groves to experience some true Italian culture. Please ask for more details.
