About the Owner

I moved to Spain with my family (husband and 2 boys) in January 2000 and we bought Los Sauces in 2001 as an overgrown plot with a cute house in need of some tlc. After a couple of years of preparation we were able to move in and loved living there for nearly 4 yrs. One of our boys is a goalie for a local club, hence the goalposts and the other plays basketball for Gandia; Spain is fabulous for the outdoor life. We have now moved a little further inland; only around 20 minutes away, but still love our beach casita. We have been successfully letting it on long term rentals in recent years, but miss it and want to go ourselves now and then; so now holiday lets! It's a lovely home with many fantastic memories; small, but very welcoming and easy to live in. One day, I'm sure we'll move back

Gorgeous Villa

  • 5 of 5

Our stay here was absolutely phenomenal. A beautiful house where the pictures do not do it justice.

A lovely villa with everything we could have needed – everything was on hand and thought out. A typically quaint Spanish villa (so not modern), but practically perfect in very way! The bedrooms are very small, but the living accommodation could not have been better sized, the kitchen, living room and outside seating / dining areas were very very spacious.

The grounds are gorgeous and completely fenced in and secluded. The pool is above ground level and so our little toddler was able to freely run around whilst we relaxed in the sun.

The location was perfect for us – In a lovely quiet area off the beaten track. That said, we did not have a car hire and definitely did not need one – please do not be put off of this villa because you think you need a car. The lovely local shop which sold everything we could have needed for breakfasts and lunches was a 6 minute walk away, the nearest restaurants and beach a 12 minute stroll (with a toddler) and Pau Pi beach no more than 20 minutes.

We would definitely love to return to Los Sauces!!

Only one minor note was the temperature of the pool. Fully appreciate that it was not advertised as heated, so completely our choice, but despite visiting Spain just as the heatwave had ended the shape and location of the pool meant it was very cold to the point I could not even get in it. I would happily pay a supplement if there was some way of having the pool heated.

A wonderful villa, owned and run by a lovely couple who could not have been more helpful.

Owner's Response: We are of course delighted that you have enjoyed your stay at Los Sauces and very much hope you will have the chance to come back one day. We're sorry that the pool was not as warm as you'd like and are pleased it didn't spoil your holiday. We do appreciate that heating technologies are continually improving, but we have yet to see an efficient system that would work well for our pool, but we will keep looking. We chose an above ground pool with the safety of our kids in the forefront of our minds that we would be able to relax at home and not have to watch them all the time. Outside of pool season we would pop down to the beach, just a short stroll away, and the Mediterranean Sea, being a huge body of water, stays warmer longer.

Lovely house in an excellent location

  • 5 of 5

The owner Carl went well above and beyond the 'call of duty' to ensure we enjoyed our stay. We loved the casita and relaxed in the garden, barbecuing almost every day and swimming in the pool. Walking distance to the beautiful Pau Pi beach , but also easy parking with the hire car even at the weekend.

The accommodation was exceptionally well equipped, spotlessly clean and so comfortable we felt at home as soon we arrived...and were very reluctant to leave. Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the trouble to review our villa; we are very, in our view, rightly proud of it and thoroughly enjoy welcoming both new and returning guests. It is always gratifying to learn that our guests have really enjoyed their stay and makes our efforts all the more worthwhile. We would also like to thank you for looking after Los Sauces during your stay and particularly for leaving it as clean and tidy as you did; it's a great help to us and most appreciated.

Lovely, peaceful week in the sun, close to the beach.

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for our family of three, and would suit a larger group too. Our hosts were really welcoming and gave us loads of useful information to help make our stay a really good one. There are miles and miles of uncrowded beaches nearby (10 minutes walk to the closest point), and decent local restaurants too. There is a bus service to and from Oliva town which is about a 45 minute walk away (flat roads). We visited the old town of Oliva and ate there too, walking in and getting a taxi back for just a handful of euros. We stayed for a week and didn't need a car - we prefer to walk than drive locally, you get to see more of the place where you're staying that way. If you stayed longer a hire car may be useful to see a bit further afield. In summary, everything as described, very friendly, welcoming hosts, a lovely week in the sun, close to the beach. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay; it's lovely to hear that you've enjoyed your holiday at Los Sauces. With or without a car the location is comfortable. We normally recommend that our guests have a car to enjoy the area around as well as that which is within walking distance, but it is by no means essential as the local facilities are more than adequate to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay; we have had many guests that have thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful time without a car and are sure we'll see many more too. If you don't fancy a walk then the local bus service will get you to and from the town of Oliva and links to other nearby towns too like Gandia and Denia. Our local taxi drivers are lovely and, contrary to popular belief, punctual too! The prices are very reasonable; and you can pre-book in English with ease. If you enjoy walking the beach is perfect; you can walk for ever; to Gandia to the north (about six miles or so) and to the south, Denia and beyond (more than you'll do in a day!)

Super location in beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our first trip to Spain which was made extra special by Carl's warm welcome - nothing was too much trouble. The villa was clean ,well equipped and set in a beautiful , secluded garden with a perfect pool to cool down in . Our walk to the sandy beach took less than 10 minutes , more if you stop for an espresso and tapas !! There is plenty to see and do nearby and recommend a trip to Valencia and snorkelling in the marine nature reserve at les Rotes in Denia.

Owner's Response: As always it’s a great pleasure and a boost to our confidence to receive another glowing review. We’ve always loved Los Sauces and are delighted that others feel the same way. Los Sauces (The Willows) is set back a tiny bit from the beach, but really it is only a pleasant ten minute stroll which has the advantage of the villa not being affected by the hustle and bustle of the beach area at night and you can enjoy your privacy in beautiful green surroundings. We really hope you have the chance to come back again and if you enjoyed snorkelling then perhaps next time you’ll try some of the other water sports like kite surfing, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, wind surfing and even jet skis. All are available nearby. We would love to take the opportunity to thank you for leaving Los Sauces the way you found it; it really is greatly appreciated and makes our life so much easier. Preparing a villa properly in summer is hard work and having it left as you did is a real help; thank you.

This pretty casita is perfect for a relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

For the past four years we have taken extended holidays here of between six and eight weeks. This alone indicates just how pleasurable we have found staying in the casita.

The casita is well equipped, and we have found that self- catering has been easy. We have at times had up to six persons and a large dog comfortably staying in the property, and we have all thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing, semi-rural environment and privacy at Los Sauces.

The location of the casita is perfect for our needs, being a short stroll from the superb, sandy but very quiet blue flag beach, friendly cafes, bars and restaurants, but with walks through the orange groves only a few yards away.

The nearby town of Oliva has an extensive weekly market and many shops, bars, cafes, bars and restaurants, many with open air tables. There is also a lovely historical centre to explore and enjoy a full flavour of Spain. The nearby town of Denia is also well worth a visit.

The owners are easily contactable from the free phone in the casita and are very friendly, willing and helpful at all times.

We cannot recommend this casita highly enough.

Location

From the Owner

We'd always wanted a home by the sea and where better than where there are over 300 days of sun per year and stunning sandy beaches that stretch for miles. Oliva is a traditional Spanish working town full of life and character, easy to live in for the locals and visitors alike. My husband runs a successful business there. 'Los Sauces' is located in a quiet residential area with all amenities close to hand and is great for popping down to the beach or shopping in town. Oliva has the best market (Friday mornings) in the whole of La Safor. The town remains very Spanish although it has a mix of English bars, restaurants and pubs. A typical 'menu del día' (lunchtime 3 course meal with wine) is still well under 10€. Mountains, beaches, culture and good food; what more can you ask for

We offer all types of English courses for our guests. I am a TESOL qualified English teacher and native speaker with many years experience as a trainer in business and as a teacher. I currently work in 2 Language Schools in Gandia and with the Town Hall in Bellreguard (a town near to the casita). I teach all levels and ages, including conversational and business English and official Government run courses. If you wish to arrange English classes during your stay I would be happy to send you more information.

Coast/Beach:

600 metres to Oliva's primary beach, one of 6 recognised beaches most of which have won the coveted ‘Blue Flag’ European standard denoting cleanliness, quality and services provided. In the summer months, beach bars or 'chiringuitos' open up on the sand and are a fun and relaxing way to spend time, day and night. Pedaloes, windsurfing, kite surfing, beach volleyball and football, kids play area, Red Cross services, restaurants and bars, supermarkets, chemists, doctors are all available.

Travel:

Oliva is easily accessed from both Valencia (50 minute drive) and Alicante (just over an hour) airports. Murcia airport is a 2 hour drive and Barcelona just under 4 hours. We recommend you have use of a car to fully exploit the area, but it is quite practical to get to and from Alicante and Valencia airports to Oliva by public transport. If required we can collect our guests from the airport but we do charge for this service.

In the Casita, you will find lots of information regarding local activities, places to go, restaurants, theme parks, bus and taxi services etc. When you have secured your booking we will be happy to forward details via email including a map of the area and local beaches. Further Details:

The historic town of Oliva can be found on the southern tip of the Costa Azahar (the Orange Blossom Coast) at the top of the Costa Blanca and has over 10 km of golden sands to offer residents and visitors alike. The area has traditionally been famous for its oranges and other citrus fruits, as well as olives, cherries and almonds. This area of Spain enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year, mild winters and pleasantly warm summers which means that the outdoor life can be enjoyed for most of the year. The town of Oliva offers everything you could want. The old town is steeped in history with its cobbled streets, traditional town houses and shops, two landmark churches and three museums all overlooked by the remains of a Moorish castle, El Castillo de Santa Ana, (fantastic views over the whole of Oliva to the coast and beyond) The town hosts local fiestas and fairs and has a fantastic 'paseo' (walkway), which is used during the day by busy shoppers and people going about their normal daily business and every evening and weekend by the townsfolk to 'pasear' (stroll) along the tree lined route and stop at the many bars, cafes and restaurants along the way. The weekly market, (which is probably the best in the whole region, the area is known as La Safor) is held here every Friday morning. Sports and leisure facilities to be enjoyed in and around Oliva include -golf, fishing, sailing, canoeing, tennis, cycling, horse riding, scuba diving, go-karting. Health spa. Oliva's sports centre has both indoor and outdoor pools, all-weather football pitches, basketball courts, gymnasium, athletics track etc. Walking crazy golf and trampolines. Within an easy drive are two water parks, one in Cullera and the other in Benidorm each around 35 minutes away. Also in Benidorm you will find the Terra Mitica theme park and Terra Natura nature reserve plus Mundo Mar "sea world". All of which provide a great day out! You can also visit Benidorm Palace as 'shown on TV!'

Facilities

From the Owner

Our lovely casita was built by a local builder and used by him and his family for many years. Traditionally ‘casitas’ were used by Spanish families for weekends, fiestas and summer breaks and are often found in the country or along the coast. They provided fresh air and outdoor space for those who normally lived in town houses or flats in the village where they worked. Unfortunately not many survive today as developers are keen to utilise their land and extend or demolish them making way for new buildings and urbanisations. Our casita is small (as to be expected) but what it lacks in size it makes up for in character. Privacy has always been of primary importance to us and we have loved the outdoor life there away from prying eyes.
