About the property

Cottage in Sennen Cove, Lands End, Cornwall, England - 3 Minutes Walk From Sennen Cove's Blue Flag Sandy Beach With Surf School

Smugglers Cottage has been converted and renovated from 2 fisherman's cottages into a beautiful home. Every room has views over the bay. The cottage doors open onto a large sun trap terrace with stunning views over long ships and Sennen cove. In the lower garden there is a bench for a quite read, and in the garden above there is a chalet. If you are lucky you will see dolphins, basking sharks and you might even swim with a seal. Sennen is a great place for children, with a huge sandy beach and lifeguards in the summer months. For older children there are surf schools, and the cottage has Wi-Fi. There are beautiful walks along the coastal path. The cottage is open plan, with a Rayburn to cook on. The cottage oozes peace, and the wood burning stove keeps it cosy in winter. It is 3 minutes walk to the beach, the shop is at the bottom of the hill. There are steps to the cottage (so not suitable for very small children or people with mobility problems).

About Andy and Jane Hiles

Hi We have been holidaying in north Cornwall for many years and Sennen Cove ever since we discovered it in 2008. We have had lovely family holidays here with our teenage children and their friends learning to surf and roaming along the beach. We live in Buckinghamshire and now Andy has retired we are free to come down every month and see the ever changing seasons and views. We see the cottage very much as our home from home and we hope you have a relaxing and lovely stay in our house.

Why Andy and Jane Hiles chose Sennen Cove

It has long been our dream to own a cottage in Cornwall and Smugglers Rest exceeds al our dreams of what a cottage should be. A true cottage character feeling with gorgeous sea views and lovely coastal walks. Sennen Cove has everything you want, huge beach, well run pub, restaurant, fish and chips café etc., all within a couple of minutes walk.

We love Smugglers because it is really light and airy, which is a treat in Sennen, with views to the horizon and along the coast, yet spacious and open and comfortable. The views from the terrace are fantastic and the front is a sun-trap.

We couldn't resist the opportunity to purchase the cottage when it came onto the market and are delighted to offer it for holyday lets and hope you enjoy it.

What makes this cottage unique

Smugglers comfortably sleeps 6 with great open plan living space. We keep it warm all year round, and there are sea views from every room. Its decorated to a high standard with everything you will need and the Wifi is a benefit for me when I'm working there. June at Pengelley House will do any laundry for you. We provide a good supply of sundries (washing up liquid, shampoo, bin liners, dishwasher tabs, loo roll) so you don't have to worry about that when you arrive. A couple of the main supermarkets will deliver to the house so you can order in advance.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beatiful cottage, probably the best self catering we have ever stayed in. Sunny all week, fantastic views, and great food at Beach restaurant. Magic stay!

Absolutely lovely cottage with nice views

  • 5 of 5

There was absolutely everything we needed - and for the first time in our life, the things all really functioned (TV, Toaster etc.) :)

We especially enjoyed the body-suits for bathing in October sea and the niece views over the cove. Andrew was very kind in contact by email and also Pauline always answered quickly by sms.

The best spot in sennen!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely magical cottage, sea views, sea beeeze, in abundance. Cosy and modern amenities, everything needed to relax in winter. Communicative helpful host. Can’t wait to rebook for a summer break as Sennen beach and surfing is on the doorstep, brilliant for teenagers to do their own thing. Lots of walks, a pub, fish and chips all without getting in a car.

AMAZING VIEWS and such a wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is much more than we ever expected. cottage - its huge! a lovely large living, kitchen dining area that is so nicely laid out it doesn't seem empty or vast but cosy and well thought out! The shower room downstairs is also excellent and could not do without the amazing power shower that anyone would need after a costal walk to lands end or after a day on the beach- also handy for wetsuits etc! Proper big bath for soaking in upstairs both with lovely slate floors and also upstairs 3 large bedrooms 2 with twin beds and so comfy I slept so well in the middle bedroom and had such a lovely view from my pillow with a cup of tea. Just bliss. Clean and tidy and still with bunches of character with exposed beams and sash windows.

The outside is excellent too, a large patio and bbq area with a great big table for everyone to sit round and enjoy the sunset and view of Cape Cornwall round to Gwynver and then Sennen Beach! We were blessed with fantastic weather so spent most of our time on the patio enjoy the views and using the bbq! Everything we needed to know was set out in the welcome package and there were also some good looking cook books that I definitely wanted to explore too. This place is so peaceful and charming, I would not hesitate to stay here again. Fantastic place to stay in a fantastic location. Thumbs up!

Our home from home

  • 5 of 5

We first stayed at Smugglers Rest in 1969. It looked nothing like it does today, but the cottage, the view, the beach and the whole of West Penwith, hooked us instantly, with the result that we returned to Smugglers for several years, only moving elsewhere in the Cove when our family was too big for the cottage. Once the children had left home we have returned to Sennen Cove/Vellandreath for holiday after holiday, during one of which we noticed that something had happened to Smugglers...it had swallowed up Pebbles, a one up one down cottage next door and was transformed. By pure luck the new owner was staying there at the time, with the result that we have now enjoyed two further visits, with hopefully many more to come. The essence of the original cottage remains, enhanced by all the trappings that we now require, TV, wi-fi, central heating, good cooker, excellent beds etc.etc. There is no better spot than Sennen Cove and Whitesands Bay for kids of all ages and no better place to stay than Smugglers' Rest. This time we particularly enjoyed the even better sea view from the upgraded summer house high up behind the cottage.

I hesitated to submit this review, fearing it will make booking Smugglers difficult, but on balance you need to know about it!!
