About this property

Beautiful 4 Star Rural Suffolk Cottage Overlooking Lake

Lake View was converted in June 2010 from our stables to the highest of standards being awarded 4 stars by the English tourist board and with great reviews. Kiln Farm has the Mary Ley Line running through the grounds, for anyone interested in ancient pathways. The cottage has every modern convenience, with the added benefit of 2 games rooms for guests "sole use". One with pool table (£1 coin slot) and table top football and other small outdoor games, plus a library with adult and children books. The other has table tennis and darts. We also have a small carp fishing lake. We have a 3 hole chipping green and golf clubs supplied. Our chickens roam freely with their young in summer as do the ducks and their ducklings. We have visiting Canadian and Egyptian geese at certain times of year, which have been known to nest on our small lake island. One well behaved dog welcome (small extra charge paid on arrival) must book in advance as rugs removed and different bedding, but must be kept on lead and can be walked around lake walkway. Small enclosed garden with French windows from lounge and en-suite bedroom. Garden table with chairs. barbecue and loungers also available from our fishing hut. Walks abundant from doorstep. Pub nearby, dogs welcome. Home made bread and fresh eggs. Internet in cottage.

This is a really lovely cottage with everything you could possibly need in the property. It is very well maintained and the welcome pack of homemade bread and jam, eggs ,orange juice and crisps was delicious. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Jean and Brian are really good hosts and we would look at retuning in the future.

Great restful countryside getaway
The accommodation was perfect, the hosts have thought of everything. We packed a lot of things that we did not need as so much is provided. There is a radio in the kitchen, large tv and dvd in the lounge along with a huge selection of dvds. There are information folders listing everything from churches to pubs. We tested a few of the pubs and they were great. Diss is a short drive away, with excellent butchers and main supermarkets. Handy for using the BBQ’s on site. The grounds are amazing and plenty of fish to catch on the private lake. The welcome pack was lovely with home made bread and fresh eggs from then chickens on the farm. The facilities go way over what is mentioned on my review. Well worth a visit and we would to return.

About the host

My husband and I moved here from London in the summer of 2008 having planned our early retirement for many years and we have not been disappointed. We wanted an old house in a rural location with enough grounds to build a holiday cottage, grow our own organic vegetables, have a few chickens and a small fishing lake. We wanted plenty of "projects" and we certainly have that. We worried about settling in to village life and if we would be accepted, but we needn't have worried. We joined in local activities, youd be surprised what goes on in villages and were welcomed very warmly. Our heating/cooker packed up christmas eve and some locals turned up with wood, chain saw and coal and told us it was a "Christmas Present" how is that for kindness, thats what life is about. We live the good life.

Why they chose this property

We wanted a rural location to watch wild life and grow our own veg, also where I could do my walking and my husband golf which we love. As soon as we read about the village on-line we fell in love with it before coming here. It was like going back in time. The village pond, old church and village hall with the cute cottages around it. Even the first person I had to phone was so friendly. There are so many walks on the doorstep, horseriders going by, cyclists and even the ocassional motorist, and when walking the dog you get to know them all. We sell our free range eggs at verge and there are lots of other wares to buy. It is away from the maddening crowds, and after city life it is such a welcome contrast. Having Diss Railway Station means easy access directly to London and Norwich.

What makes this property unique

We enjoy walks with the dog on our doorstep. Also we can walk to the local pub and go regularly for meals. We are convenient for Diss Town only 10 mins in car for all our groceries and theatre/shows/restaurants, and only 15 mins by train to Norwich and 1.1/2 hours to London.
The roads are great and if need be can drive to London in under 2 hours, unusual to have long traffic jams.
We offer 4.1/2 acres of grounds to walk around, chickens, ducks and their babies in summer to see, organic vegetable when in season, and pick your own fruit from our peach, apple, damson, goosberry, redberries etc trees. We have free range eggs, and home baked bread, maybe this year Ill make cider. There are 2 games rooms with table tennis, snooker, darts and golf clubs for 5 hole chipping green.
