About the property

House on Tiwi Beach, Near Diani, Kenya - Stunning Swahili Style Villa With Pool And Steps To Lovely Secluded Beach

Tiwi House is tucked into a gentle curve of the beach at the north end of Tiwi beach. The property consists of a fully furnished and equipped four-bedroom house, with a swimming pool between verandah and beach. The house has an amazing ocean landscape. We have our own private steps down coral cliffs to a quiet beach. Tiwi House sleeps 9 in 4 bedrooms that have their own individual bathrooms with ceiling fans, some air conditioning and a full staff. Holiday letting is all the year round including Easter, Christmas and the New Year. Relax, swim in sea or pool, sunbathe, go sightseeing and shopping in Diani; snorkelling, diving, bird-watching, sailing, water sports and deep sea fishing are all available; a 40 minute drive takes you to the Shimba Hills Game Park and lodge; an hour and a half to Shimoni and the Maritime Park.

About Vivi and John Marshall

We live in England but spend a great deal of our time in Kenya, where we have made friends and enjoy the country. We love Tiwi for the private nature of its beach; the Kisite Marine Park boasts some of the best snorkelling and fun scuba diving there is. Nearby Diani has some very good restaurants. There really is something for everyone here. The area is easily accessible with Ukunda airport less than 35 minutes drive away and 90 minutes to Moi International at Mombasa. The property is absolute barefoot luxury!

March 2010

We had the most wonderful week in this truly beautiful house on Tiwi Beach. Thank you so much for letting us experience your paradise spot.

March - April 2010

Wow - Thank you so much - we have loved every minute of being in your beautiful Tiwi House - it is such a fantastic spot and Joseph and Salim and all the others have looked after us brilliantly; we are all so sad to have to go home and hope we can come back one day!

January - February 2011

Perfection - in every way. We will remember Tiwi House, its gentle staff - the life enhancing view from the terrace.

What an extraordinary stay, in a magical place. To arrive here is in a way to have arrived. We lack for nothing, the soothing pacific waves breaking on the reef, long deep sleeps gave a totally relaxing and refreshing experience. I am recharged!

Just loved it!

Thank you very much for letting us stay at Villa Tiwi this xmas season 2015. The villa is just amazing! The owners very always responsive and kind to all questions I had before during and after our stay.

The villa is very well kept and clean. Villa manager Joseph is very kind and helpful and handles all issues with great care. All other staff members very equally great hosts. Bedrooms, bathrooms, living room, all just perfect. The kitchen is very well equiped. We hired at little extra costs a professional cook (George) who was worth every penny. The swimming pool is the center of this place. Very well done! The place is huge so upto nine persons can easily stay at the place (we were six).

The remote location is a great advantage yet a disadvantage at the same time. Very peaceful and quiet. Should you however want to do some shopping or visit a restaurant, you need a car (25 minutes to Diani Beach).

Some other remarks:

- the villa has no A/C (which I would have liked in the bedroom) and no internet/wifi (which I did not miss after all).

- the beach can be easily accessed. The beach is amazingly beautiful. Or rather it could be. Natural and especially man-made debris spoil a great place. Co-operative efforts would greatly upgrade the beach. I would have also liked some possibilities for watersports activities in Tiwi.

- the listing description accurately reflects the place: you get what you see!

This is definitely a place I would return!!

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay a Tiwi House and that you have reflected on your experiences in such a complimentary way. The criticisms are fair and we will be looking into these during our forthcoming stay at Tiwi House. We are very sorry about the state of the beach which does vary, particularly after a spell of high winds when more seaweed seems to get torn out of the depths - plastic etc. is a worldwide phenomemom and we will do our best in future to see that Tiwi House frontage, at least, is kept as clear as practicable by asking Mfaki, the gardener in charge of our overall beach area, to keep it clear - especially when guests are in residence. Wifi has become a problem recently with the ISP not responding but, one solution is the "Orange" network. It would be nice to think that you might return one day - Tiwi peace v Diani life; a conundrum!

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: Not ideal for toddlers unless supervised, it is very open and the pool is almost integral with the house which is architect designed and designer furnished. Ideally suited to extended families and two or three families that like to holiday together. Outside: You approach the house down a bush track followed by an avenue of palms and ancient frangipani trees with their white blossoms overhead. Neem trees shade the steps leading down the coral gardened cliff to the sandy beach; there is heavenly swimming at most tide heights and at low tide one can walk either up the reef to the Sand Island and beyond or south to the Tiwi river that separates Tiwi beach from Diani beach. Over the river can be seen and visited the atmospheric Kongo Mosque which was built between the 14th and 15th centuries and, having been recently restored is used for worship. The gardens are being developed and being well maintained by Mbwana and Mfaki. The grass is kept short and there are many exotic flowering trees and shrubs. There might be our own coconuts or citrus fruit for you to enjoy. There is a breakfast terrace outside the house and very large outdoors table beside the swimming pool. Utility Room: There is a utility area with washing machine and a second, smaller refrigerator. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Property is cleaned every day, towels and linen are provided and changed when required - all laundry is hand or machine washed, as required, and dried on the line. Beach towels are not provided. Other: Between the two sets of bedrooms on the first floor is a vast timber floored area suitable for relaxing or simply gazing out over the sea!
