Again this year, we have given this lovely, luxurious home a facelift with new stylish furnishings and accessories to create a relaxing, calm atmosphere and further improve what we offer to our guests, who seem to return time after time, to enjoy all its beautiful views and comforts.

There are no roads passing in front of Merridays, only a pathway so your peaceful location is assured looking out over fields and farms in one direction and various river views in other directions. Merridays has its own river front mooring and dyke that enables mooring of boats off the river front. Guests are more than welcome to bring their own boat or hire boats from local boat yards. There is also our small row boat for you to use. Extensive decked area, gated on three sides (can be locked for children's safety) creating a large safe area for children to play. Outdoor and indoor games are available including a paddling pool.

The wrap-around furnished decking areas enable you to maximise your relaxation and enjoyment of the river and countryside. Besides the triple aspect windows, the two sets of French doors help bring the outside in or visa versa. For your convenience and enjoyment, there is a gas BBQ with everything you need, with no shortage of outdoor furniture on the decking area, with chairs provided for those wishing to fish from such an ideal spot on the riverside lawn. Alternatively, you may wish to feed the ducks and swans or just watch the boats and the world go by. Walkers will enjoy Weavers Way which runs past Merridays and stretches from Cromer to Gt Yarmouth, if you feel energetic. There are so many beautiful walks from your doorstep to enable you to catch all the wild life, no matter what time of year.

Wild life is everywhere in this area, including the numerous nearby lovely beaches, many of which are unspoilt and seemingly only known by the locals. Seals are commonly seen along these beaches and depending on the time of year, their pups draw much attention. The beaches of Horsey, Winterton, Sea Palling, Caister and Hemsby are all between 5 and 8 miles away. Norwich and Great Yarmouth are within easy reach. A 'Park and Ride' from Postwick is available into Norwich, which makes the visit to the historic castle, shopping and activities trouble free. There is a train service from Acle (8 miles away) to Norwich and Gt. Yarmouth.

There is an abundance of activities to suit all tastes and ages in this area; the National Trust properties are well worth visiting too as are all the little nooks and crannies that are to be found on the broads. We ensure there is always plenty of holiday and tourist information at Merridays for your convenience.

All in all, Merridays is a home from home, with so much more provided than the usual holiday home; Merridays was originally designed, furnished and equipped as our family holiday home.

About the Owner

My name is Joan; I am 68 years young. I love meeting people and through letting have met some wonderful couples and families from all over the UK and different parts of the world.

Having taught for over 35 years, I am now semi-retired (teaching part-time) but always busy, being out & about enjoying life, whether it be in Essex or Norfolk.

I have really enjoyed renovating both properties being very proud and pleased with the results. They are both distinctive in their own special ways.

My family live near me and I am very much involved in their lives especially my grandsons. We have enjoyed many wonderful times at Merridays, a beautiful holiday home in Norfolk (Ref. E2801)

My daughter Vicky helps me with all the 'letting administration & running of the 'Butterfly' and 'Merri

A lovely relaxing place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I went to merridays last year. We have been to potter heigham a number of times and always said how nice it would be to stay in one of the water side cottages. As it was my husbands 50th and his passion is fishing, we decided that merridays was the perfect place to stay. I contacted Joan and her daughter Vicky asking if they would mind putting up a few 50th birthday banners for me if I sent them on. They were more than happy to do this...in fact they asked for some balloons too! They were there to greet us on arrival and were very welcoming.

The accommodation is stunning. Very modern, with everything that you could possibility need during your stay plus more. It was like home from home, can't fault it!

We hired a boat from the local boat yard at a greatly discounted rate for the whole week. We were able to moor this in the private mooring to the side of the accomadation. We used this to travel too and from the shops at potter heigham as well as numerous fishing trips.

There is a lovely waterside lawn which is part of the property, a great place to fish off (while I was making the most of the lovely decking!) we saw some beautiful sunsets too. Bearing in mind it was the end of October, we were really lucky with the weather.

We would love to go back again some time, thank you Joan and Vicky for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I with my Mum had a short stay for 3 nights in this very well equipped holiday bungalow. The setting was perfect & is very well located to get to other parts of the Broads, to the coast or to Norwich. I would highly recommend Merridays owing to the facilities within the bungalow, its cleanliness, the added extras (such as milk, biscuits, fruit etc. waiting for you when we arrived) and location just South of Potter Heigham bridge. Joan & Vicky went out of their way to make us feel welcome & were very efficient with the booking administration both before & after our stay.

A great place to stay :)

A Little Piece Of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Third time back at this beautiful riverside cottage, after a break of three years due to our moving home. It is difficult to find enough superlatives to describe this property, you really do have to stay there - you won't be disappointed! everything in the description of this property is absolutely accurate.

The location is to die for. Weather permitting you could just sit on the decking for a week just watching the activity on the river, whether it be the passing boats or the wildlife. No noise from passing cars, and for wildlife lovers, look out for barn owls in the fields on the opposite side of the bungalow to the river ( we saw three at one time during our stay).

A 10-15 minute walk along the riverside path takes you to potter Heigham, lovely little village where you can hire a variety of day boats which can be moored at Merridays. There is a huge store which stocks all manner of items, and shops where you can eat and again enjoy beautiful views.

The bungalow has been extensively modernised by Joan and Vicky ( and family - do look at the photographs of 'before' ). It is particularly comfortable and is equipped with every convenience imaginable, and is beautifully maintained, and has been spotlessly clean every time we have visited. Athough right on the river Joan and Vicky have ensured young children are safe with the enclosed lockable decking. I would thoroughly recommend this holiday let, whether you are into fishing, boats or generally just enjoy the countryside and wildlife. Joan and Vicky are a pleasure to liaise with and we will certainly be back again.

Location

From the Owner

John & I discovered this tranquil spot in 2005. We fell in love with this area along the River Thurne. We bought Merridays; John could never wait to set his fishing rods up; we'd both sit back & enjoy this lovely spot, the beautiful river views & countryside with no traffic noise. With a triple aspect in the open-plan lounge/diner and kitchen, you can enjoy beautiful views of Norfolk countryside in one direction, but being on the bend of the river, you'll have excellent views of the River Thurne in both directions - just beautiful and uplifting all times of the year. Merridays was a lovely 1930's bungalow but we felt she needed a complete renovation to make it an ideal all year round holiday home. Sadly, John died in 2007 but with my family, I continued with the plans. We've enjoyed so many wonderful times, family holidays & celebrations all through the year. My grandsons love it all, playing on the decking, the river, nearby beaches, walks. I enjoy sitting back, a G & T, watching the world go by. With so much to see, do or not do, everyone always love coming to Merridays

Facilities

From the Owner

Merridays is the ideal holiday destination in its own right. We've had guests that have arrived & stayed there for their whole holiday, having shopping delivered. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, the wild life, no traffic noise; all you hear are those 'noisy' birds, ducks and swans at times with the intermittent chugging of the Broad's boats passing by your front door. Young children can play safely on the large safe gated decking area with parents perhaps just taking it easy, fishing or boating. For the more energetic, walkers can enjoy the Weaver's Way that passes our door or take the other many walks. Beautiful unspoilt beaches are very close to Merridays as are historic villages, riverside & country pubs, places to eat & of interest with always plenty of things to do &
