About the property

Apartment in Kastel Stari, Nr. Split &Trogir, Dalmatian Coast, Croatia - It Is A Relaxing Atmosphere & Only Meters From The Beach, Warm Adriatic & Centre of the Village

The light and spacious ground floor apartment is all on one level. It has air-conditioning and room fans and every facility that you would possibly need while enjoying your holiday on this beautiful part of the Dalmation Coast.

The bedroom has a super-king, 180cm sized bed with matching furniture. Two bedside tables, wardrobe and chest of 4 draws. The sofa in the living room also opens to a double bed.

The fully functional modern kitchen has an induction hob and oven, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer and all the utensils you need whilst enjoying your stay. There is also English tea and coffee is provided.

Living room

The spacious living area has a large oval dining table, a tv unit with 21" flat screen tv, DVD and radio/cd players. The tv daily puts on good English spoken programmes and the radio plays some great pop. There is a book case with a selection of books and some games and tourist brochures in the draws of the tv unit. If you should fancy some time relaxing at home. You will find WiFi code here.

The bathroom has a large shower cubicle with sliding doors, wc, a sink with tall lit mirror and shaver point. It also houses the washing machine.

There is an iron & ironing board, vacuum cleaner and hair dryer in the cupboard in the hall.

At the front of the building a parking space is allotted in Bay III, though it is not essential to have a car as everything you need is nearby and public transport is very good, If and when you want to see Split or Trogir or get a ferry to one of the Islands. It's the 37 bus. I always suggest to guests if they wish to see more of this beautiful country. Once they decide where to go they get the bus to the airport and hire a car for the days they want rather than have it sit in the parking bay for days not used.

In the private secluded garden I have planted rose trees, a rosemary hedge and recently planted Jasmine against the trellis. On the south side grape vines grow up a frame to give a dappled shade from the sun. There is a field of fruit trees behind our garden so it is not overlooked. There is a bbq for toasting your freshly caught fish bought from the little market 2 minutes walk away.

On the other side is the balcony where you can sit in the evening and sip a glass or two of good local wine or a cool Croatian beer and watch the sun go down. All the cafe bars and restaurants have free WiFi too.

About Madeleine Jenkins

My name is Madeleine Jenkins. The photo is me on the right and Austrian friends that I met in Kastela, sitting on my balcony on a warm summers evening. We still meet up.

I was born in London and now live not far in Essex. I have a gorgeous daughter and 2 lovely grandsons, one of whom is at university the other will start secondary soon. Some years ago my partner and I set off in a VW van round Europe. We went through 11 countries in the 3 weeks. We travelled down the Dalmatian coast and woke one morning in Kastela Bay. What a wonderful sight to behold. The morning sun shining on the calm turquoise glass like sea. The old white stone buildings of Kastel Stari hail-owed by the back drop of the majestic Kozjak mountain. The local people too were friendly and helpful. So here I remain.

Madeleine Jenkins purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Madeleine Jenkins chose Kaštel Stari

We bought the property here in Kastel Stari firstly because of the scenery, the history and local people. Then found that flights from Londons and other airports to Split were very reasonable and take just 2 hours 10 minutes. Being just 15 minutes from Split airport makes the journey very pleasant. Though a fishing village there is everything close to hand. The supermarkets, the shops, the bars, the restaurants, the beach and even the bus stop. A car is not essential.

We moved in before it was completed and were the first residents in the 3 story apartment block. The builder lives in the village. Brand new underground drains were laid, pavements built and roads resurfaced a few years ago which has made life even more pleasant.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is very bright, airy and spacious with patio doors to the balcony and to the garden as well as windows on 2 sides of the corner plot. If shade is needed in the hotter days of summer then the shutters can be pulled down to give a cooler feel. Though the doors & windows need to be closed if the air conditioner is on. The garden has grape vines growing up the trellis to provide some dappled shade and jasmine against the fence on the other to give seclusion. But the backdrop view of the mountains sloping down to the sea is still a sight to behold.

What a wonderful holiday. The apartment was just what we were hoping for and perfectly located. Spent lot of time relaxing on beach & at the many cafe's & restaurants in Kastel Stari. Loved swimming under waterfalls in Krk National Park. Would also recommend Trogir for atmosphere & restaurants. Thanks so much Madeleine for all your help & superb accommodation.

First team (Just too relaxed to spell correctly) time in Croatia. Won't be last. Great weather, people, food & plenty to see & do. Apartment was perfect for us, a home from home. Maybe see you again Madeleine & thanks once again for being a great hostess.

Our 1st visit to Kastel Stari was absolutely made by your lovely apartment with everything to make our stay comfortable. Your kindness & taxi service much appreciated. Hvala -the only Croatian word we have grasped.

Superb apartment with lovely small garden close to the beach

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was everything we hoped for and more. It is modern, superbly well equipped and spotlessly clean. Added to that, it has the benefit of a small garden for exclusive use and is only a very short stroll to the beach and we couldn't have been happier. It is obvious Madeleine has invested lots of time making sure it has everything you would need for a great holiday

The living room/ kitchen is wonderful with a little balcony.

Perhaps it is the little unexpected things that make a difference - the well equipped kitchen gave us the tools to prepare many delicious meals. Fish and squid sourced from the market with local vegetables. The local tomatoes are wonderful and tasty.

There is no real need to hire a car as the bus stops are only a 5 minute walk away and take you to Trogir, Split and beyond.

There are numerous shops locally stocking everything you would need.

Although the apartment is a short distance to the seafront, it was really quiet here at night and we enjoyed really good sleep.

All in all, this was a wonderful holiday in a great apartment located in a wonderful village. The people are friendly and the area is very safe. We would heartily recommend this apartment. The owner is very kind and helpful - allowing us to remain at the apartment beyond the check out time as we had a late flight. Loved it from start to finish

Good location. Clean and tidy. Inventory fulfilled our needs for home cooking

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for our requirements. Full inventory. Immaculatey clean. We'll prepared to facilitate home cooking which we enjoy...

Would have appreciated air conditioning in the bedroom on several nights.

Very accessible to the beach and bars. Pretty location with clean beach and sea..

Although a car is not essential we did hire a car and had some amazing trips out to national parks. Would suggest a car and mountain roads are very good and quiet. Lovely restful holiday. Split airport chaotic, and drinks and food extortionate and poor. Thank you Madeleine and Marjia for a warm welcome. Noel and Linda

Beautiful apartment

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in this lovely 1 bedded apartment which was very clean and comfortable. The apartment was very well appointed with a balcony and a lovely surprise of a garden at the rear. The owner Madeline cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. We have stayed in the area many times and we will definitely return to this apartment on our next visit.

It is very convenient being 10 minutes frim the airport where on arrival you can take bus 37 in fact the bus runs 3 times an hour between Split and Trogir both of which are superb cities to visit day and night. Here you can pick up boat trips to many of the islands.

We really enjoyed our stay in Kastel Stari. The apartment was clean and had all we needed. Location was great, we walked into the village and the beach only metres away.

Very quiet if that's want you want and really clean. Lovely bars and friendly people. Travelled on the 37 bus 🚌? everywhere, even back to the airport.

Thank you Madeline for the use of your lovely apartment home from home.

The apartment is easily located just 15 minutes (5k) from Split airport. By taxi (cost approx £12), Car hire, or 37 Bus. Turn left out of airport, cross and the straight road (Dr Franja Tudmana) that passes through 2 villages Kastel Stafillic, Kastel Novi and take a right turn down to the sea in Center of Kastel Stari.

The shale beach, warm Adriatic sea, little park, supermarket, bars, shops and restaurants are just steps away. Take a stroll through the narrow streets of the old stone buildings in the village and peer into the shops to discover what is being sold there. In less than 2 mins. you'll be in the market square where you can buy fresh fish and daily picked vegetables to take back for lunch. Or, just sit with a coffee and watch the fishermen come in. Later take a dip in the warm Adriatic or sunbathe on the beach with a book.

Travel & Distances:

If you fancy a trip to the historic UNESCO world heritage cities the 37 bus will take you to Trogir 12k. Or, in the other direction Croatia's second city Split 15k. The bus stop is 50mtrs. walk & the bus passes approx. every 20 minutes.

At Split you can visit the famous Diocletian Palace, a museum or perhaps take a ferry to one of the many islands to taste their wonderful wines. In Trogir meander the narrow marbled streets or sit by the quay & gaze at the millionaires enormous yachts & dream.

Further Details:

There is a lot to interest visitors to Kastela Bay. Sailing, windsurfing, fishing, rent a bike, visit Krk National Park, various festivals, historical churches and museums etc. Or just rent a pedalo on a hot afternoon and taste a different flavour ice cream every day.

As a guide it is 1 euro per day (or Kuna's) and can be paid into the local tourist office at the quay near fish market & Gajo cafe bar. Children under 12 free.
