Villa near Sao Martinho do Porto, Portugal - Lovely Home in Quiet Location with Fantastic Valley Views

Brand New in 2011. A truly stunning detached 3 bedroom villa which has been lovingly converted from an old farm house by our local builder. The property is light, airy and spacious and offers fantastic views across the valley. With 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, the villa is fully equipped to the highest standards. South facing and sitting on top of the 3 acre plot, we are surrounded by beautiful quiet farm land. Situated half way between Sao Martinho do Porto with its safe sandy beech and busy shops and restaurants, and the bustling market town of Alcobaca, with Portugal’s largest church and monastery, you are in easy reach of everything needed to make your holiday perfect. Other 'must see' places include Obidos and Peniche (best surfing area in Portugal!) and are all within easy driving distance. The private pool is ideal for hot lazy days and refreshing in the warm evenings. Local access to the A8 motorway takes you to Lisbon (under an hour) and Coimbra and Porto to the north.

About The Owner

Lin & Paul live in Kent in England and are married with three children. Lin is a yoga teacher and Paul runs a software consultancy. We would both rather be in Portugal!

Why The Owner chose Cela

We bought a ruin and have spent 4 years converting the farm building into a beautiful home. We chose this property because of its stunning location and still hope to fulfil our original goal of building a yoga retreat centre on the land we have with the property.

Its location is ideal for those looking for peace and quiet but within minutes of all the main attractions the Silver Coast has to offer.

The views are wonderful and being south facing it has sunshine all day long. The porch was added as an afterthought but is very much needed on the hotter days!

What makes this villa unique

The location is really what this property is all about. Our local builder who has been instrumental in getting the house looking so good, reminds me regularly that he should have bought it, not us! But he and his wife are good friends now and we let them come round for a glass of wine occasionally...

The pool is a long enough to swim in and there is an abundance of seating and sunbathing areas. But if you want to be busier or go shopping, you can reach all the main sights easily. We have made many friends, both Portuguese and others who now live in the area and will continue to look forward to the day we can be out there more permanently!

Notes on accommodation: Ideal property for families, the patio is entirely walled but the swimming pool is open access so particular care must be taken with small children. All bedrooms are fitted with external mosquito nets and open onto south facing terrace. Please note this is a non smoking villa. Welcome pack on arrival with basic groceries, milk, wine and beer! Outside: Wooden dining suite with benches and table. Second suite of metal with round glass top table and 6 easy chairs also provided. We have 6 new and comfortable sun loungers. Swimming pool accessories including dingy and lilos are also included. Utility Room: Washing machine, iron, ironing board and clothes drier, all located in outhouse with bathroom 3. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and bathroom towels are provided. Further cleaning arrangements by local agreement. Other: Off road parking outside gated entrance. Wooden and metal garden dinning furniture and 6 sun loungers. Swimming pool accessories including dingy and lilos.

This property was really clean and tidy and very well equipped. There was everything you needed for a great holiday and had all the amenities. It was not too far from the sea at beautiful St Martinho

Perfect home from home

An exceptionally well presented and equipped farmhouse. As a family of 4 adults and 1 teenager it had absolutely everything that we could possibly need. The owner Paul was very responsive to all communication and provided us with a lot of helpful local knowledge prior to our arrival. We had a great holiday in a beautiful location and would highly recommend.

Beautiful farmhouse near Alcobaca

A lovely villa, beautifully situated to cruse the silver coast. Well apportioned with large pool and great views across the Portuguese countryside. We holidayed with Granny and the layout of the villa allowed for privacy and her own space which she loved. The washing machine broke down mid holiday and it was replaced as soon as we let the site manager know with a call from the handy mobile phone left in the kitchen. We loved Obidos and the beaches at Baleal, a surfers paradise. Weather wise, we had 7 days glorious sunshine and 7 days cloud and pretty disappointing temperatures. But this was unusual for the area and whilst the weather was disappointing it was more than made up with the fact we saw the whole Andy Murray Wimbledon final with gin and tonics and wine. We've given this four stars, a bit picky I know, but this was because we were a fan short in one of the bedrooms which would have helped given the very hot weather at the start of the holiday. Overall though, a lovely villa, great for families of all ages and thoroughly recommended. Big thanks to the owner Paul, for the information provided running up to the holiday, and especially for the directions with photographs which made finding the villa a breeze.

super villa - great location

Super villa , with all amenities maintianed to a very high standard.

We love the peace and quiet around the property, the wonderful views

and the wonderful sunshine especially late afternoon.

The villa is perfectly situated both for relaxation at the property or visits further afield to places of interest or enjoying the numerous, unspoilt beaches.

This is our second visit to the property and hopefully we will visit again.

Special Villa

Perfect holiday location for us. All amenities you could need.

Views were amazing. The house is lovely and airy with vaulted ceiling in the main living room. You will need a car, but there are so many places to visit within a 10/20 minute radius that it will be well used I expect, as ours was. This is an amazing unspoilt part of Portugal. Excellent and we are already booked for next year and can't wait to return!

Wonderful Home in Portugal

The property literally jumped off the website for us. It was just what we were looking for - somewhere close to the sea but away from the crowds. Booking was really easy and Paul Craddock, the owner, could not have been more helpful.

The description was very accurate and the access instructions very precise. The property was beautifully maintained and exceeded all our expectations. Situated inland looking out over a valley with sunshine all day long it was just perfect. The beautiful seaside village of Sao Martinho do Porto is only a short drive away as is the town of Caldas da Rainha with its wonderful market, shops and supermarkets. The motorway is very close giving easy access from Lisbon and Porto and made it very easy to get about. Lots to see and do - Obidos and Alcobaca are nearby. Peniche is just up the coast and a visit to Porto is worth it. Get the maps out and just head off and explore. It really is easy to get about. We did in excess of 2000 kiloms during our stay. Wonderful days sitting by the pool were also a joy. Local taxis are available if you fancy an evening out. For those who want to get away from it all, this is the perfect property. We enjoyed it immensely and look forward to returning!

The seaside town of Sao Martinho do Porto, popular with Lisbon residents is approx 6 minutes drive and has typical shops, restaurants and bars.

Other excellent beeches include Foz do Arelho and the beautiful Obidos Lagoon, with an array of water sports. Further south, Baleal is best for surfing and is next to Peniche, Portugal’s largest fishing harbour. To the north of us (15 minutes drive) is Nazare which is a busy larger town offering surfing shopping, and restaurants.


Lisbon is approximately an hour easy drive on the un-crowded A8 motorway. To the north, Oporto airport is about 2 hours drive. Driving from the ferry port in Santander, Spain, takes 7 hours 5 mins - I know! Car hire is essential and is best found via auto europe.


A local shop with bread and basic groceries is less than 1 mile. Alfeizerao is half way to Sao Martinho and has banks, bakers, butchers, cafes and many other shops. Sao Martinho has a lager super market and a wider range of shops. The best shopping is in either Caldas da Rainha (large market town) or Alcobaca - both about 15 mins drive.

Further Details:

Getting around the area is particularly easy, with far less traffic on the roads and far more patience! The villa is situated within 20 mins of 3 of the AA's top ten 'Must See Places' in Portugal. This is an un-spoilt, un-tourist area where you can still find the true relaxed Portuguese people and customs.

Prices for the property are per week in UK Pounds and include use of all utilities linen/towels. Final cleaning on departure is payable locally, 85 Euros. Please enquire for short or longer breaks.
