Longere in Conde sur Noireau, Nr. Vire and Flers, lower Normandy, Calvados, Francue - A Peaceful Location In 'la Suisse Normande', With Rolling Contryside All Around

La Ferme is a renovated longère (stone built farm house), loving restored by us, in a rural setting. Care has been taken to maintain as much of the character as possible (stone work and beams), and give a high level of comfort. The 2 apartments are on garden level, park outside the door, no stairs. The garden is mainly laid to lawn and is on two levels separated by a small stream. The terraces opposite the house are full of dahlias in the summer time. The addition of a log cabin frontage as a whole seating/drinks/relax area, on the middle terrace overlooking the house has been a favourite place this year. In a peaceful and tranquil setting you may enjoy an early evening drink in sun or shade. The barbeque and kitchens are at your disposal, or you may choose to dine with us at a small charge for a 4 course menu (Table d’Hôte). We are not far from many historical and leisure sights and we supply a variety of leaflets, brochures and maps for your information. We aim to make our guests comfortable and supply services as necessary. We have 4 bicycles for your use. Dogs are very welcome, resident 4 year old Freddie (Border Collie) loves meeting new friends. "La Suisse Normande" is what it suggests with rolling countryside perfect for walking and cycling as well as offering many historical and interesting places to visit during your stay.

Our two apartments can be rented either as B&B on a nightly basis (MINIMUM 2 nights) for short stays or on Gites basis for a week or longer and are next door to each other. One apartment sleeps two + plus 2 children. The other has two bedrooms if required and can sleep 4 adults + 2 children. The two kitchens are well equipped and the dining table in one of them seats 8, plenty big enough to seat the whole family. Otherwise total privacy is guaranteed independently. South west facing, the garden is sunny until the late evening and the barbeque area a perfect place for a drink before dinner. The seating areas in other parts of the garden are also relaxing places to be at any time of the day. In summer the terraces are full of dahlias, and the vegetable plot full of fresh veg and fruit, autumn brings the apples and walnuts, all freely available. Leaflets of local attractions ready available in each apartment. Living on site we are always available to answer any questions.

About the Owner

We are an early retired couple living in France for the last 7 years. During that time we have renovated and restored a Longere (stone built farm house) and now have not only our own accommodation but two completely self contained apartments available on a Gite (self contained) basis or B&B. Freddie our four year old Border Collie is a wonderful addition to La Ferme. All our guests love him and he is a great pal for visting dogs too.

We are hospitable and fun loving and make our guests welcome. We entertain a lot, especially during the summer and our guests are always welcome to join us for BBQs or just a drink.

We offer Table d'Hote dinner eaten 'en famille' with us, or in your own dining room, for an extra charge.

Wow - what a wonderful find. We stayed for 6 days, the hosting was 1st class plus. The rooms were so charming and everything you needed. Unfortunately we did not have the time to have a meal, but if the breakfasts are anything to go by they would be awesome. Hopefully will be back someday to explore more of Normandy. Thank you Linda for all you did for us.

We too have recently returned from a six night stay at La Ferme from whence we explored the Calvados area. Having read all the previous visitor comments there is little more we can add except to confirm that all the very nice things everyone else has enjoyed previously - were also enjoyed by us - if not more so. Linda and Geoff are great hosts and the suite we stayed in was superb. Freddie the dog was an enthusiastic performer - what a star! Hope to return again soon, if they are not fully booked, of course!!

Un petit paradis niché dans la campagne normande!! La Ferme, merveilleusement et soigneusement tenue par des hôtes anglais, Linda et Geoff (et bien sûr Freddie the dog), des hôtes chaleureux qui ont à coeur de bien recevoir les visiteurs. Un appartement cosy, décoré avec style, une grande cuisine, une salle de bain très bien agencée, un jardin magnifique. Linda et Geoff, un grand bravo !!! We fell in love with Normandy after several visits to friends who live here. It's convenient for all the ports for us to get back to the UK to see friends and family. A rural area, it is full of nature and history nearby and perfect for a quiet life. The local towns are easily accessible but a car is essential as the public transport system, although good, is limited. We wanted a property which is not in a typical holiday area, so you won't be shoulder to shoulder with other holiday makers, but we are within short drives to historical places such as Falaise, with William the Conqueror's Castle; Bayeux with its tapestry and museums; the coastal areas of the Normandy Landings and much more. Bagnoles de L'Orne has a Casino. We have walking/cycling routes on our door step and more nearby.

50 minutes to 1 hour drive to the Normandy Landings beaches. 50 mins to Ouistreham beach near Caen. 1 hour 30 minutes to Granville to west (Brittany) and its beaches. Honfleur/Deauville/Trouville all about 1hr 30mins away as well Cabourg and Houlgate.


GPS: 48° 51' 17" N 0° 35' 1" W. By car: 50 minutes Caen, 1 hour 50 minutes Cherbourg, 2 hours Le Havre, 2 hours St Malo, 3 hours Paris, 5 hours Calais. By train: 2.15 hours to Caen or Flers from Paris. Car essential.


2.5 km to Condé sur Noireau, for shopping/supermarkets/banks, museum and art gallery, public pool. Small supermarket just a 10 minute walk away. Excellent local restaurants. Bayeux and its tapestry to the north 1hr. Falaise/William the Conqueror's castle, SE: 45 mins. Roche D'Oetre-manificent marked walks, stunning views: 20 mins. Canoeing/kayaking/parascending at Le Vey: 20mins and cycle routes all around. Mont St Michel: 1hr 40mins.

Many other chateaux, gardens, zoos, within an hour.

Further Details:

Banks and supermarkets in Condé sur Noireau. Market on Thursday morning. Markets in Vire-Friday, Flers-Saturday, Caen-Saturday. Restaurants and cafés offering reasonably priced food, especially lunches. Most shops and businesses including banks are closed for lunch between 12 noon and 2pm, but everything is open generally until 7pm. Monday mornings closed. Most restaurants closed on Monday evenings. We can reserve a table with any restaurant you choose. We offer Table d’Hôte dinner if you want to relax in the evening, either taken with us or in the privacy of your own dining room. BBQs are of course a favourite in summer time. We often entertain friends and neighbours and always invite our guests to join in if they wish, if only to join us for a drink before dinner. The BBQ is also for your personal use.

Through our own website or by email and phone. Bookings 4 weeks in advance or more a deposit is required by bank transfer to the UK or in France, or cheque (UK or French). Cancellations within 2 weeks: deposit forfeited. Bookings made within 2 weeks are taken on trust. All costs agreed on acceptance of the accommodation. Invoices given on final payment (morning of departure). Departure by 11am. Arrival after 3pm.

From the Owner

We are 200metre from main road, with private access from two sides. The garden is large and secluded. Parking is infront of the apartments. The self contained accommodation each have a small kitchenette and breakfast room for your privacy. The kitchens are fully equipped with crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots and pans. As well, cooker, microwave and electric hob, toaster, fridge freezer, sink unit. The kitchens give the opportunity for guests to prepare light meals when staying longer than one night. Dogs are welcome!

  • Accommodation: The self contained apartments 'Dahlia' and 'Passiflore' open onto the large garden and picnic/barbecue area. Comprising large bedrooms (28m2) with TV/radio (both English and French through Freebox), WiFi internet, large sofa (which doubles as a bed). Fold up bed big enough for an adult. Coffee table, armchair, wardrobes and cupboards. Board games and books in English, cards and the French game of 'Boules'. Child cot, high chair, baby bath and changing mat on request. Well appointed shower rooms, kitchen/diner (microwave, 2 hob electric stove, kitchen top oven, fridge/freezer, toaster, fully equipped). Breakfast is served at your convenience. Coffee and tea freely available throughout your stay. Parking is directly outside the guest rooms. Dogs are very welcome (we provide a bin and bags). There is a strict no smoking policy within the apartments. Ash pots are provided outside in all areas. Outside: The large garden (5500 m2) is laid to grass with flower beds, flower pots and a well stocked vegetable patch and polytunnel. The picnic area is furnished with table and chairs for 12 under a covered (shower proof) pergola, gas fired barbecue and a chimenea for chilly evenings! There are 3 other areas in the garden with table and chairs so you can always find shade or sun. Our cabin is a favourite for the end of the day relax and a glass, or the Lover's seat' overlooking the pond for the same. We do not provide a children's play area but the garden is large and at your disposal. We also have bicycles (with helmets) for your use. Covered and secure parking for motorbikes and bicycles
